September, they shared Philippine cultural

values by sponsoring a Filipino Saints Day

at the Prince of Peace Parish in Clinton,

Iowa. The volunteers prepared and served

Filipino dishes, and provided historical

perspective on the lives of the holy men

considered by the Catholic Church as

saints. In November, volunteers helped

with set-up for the American Heart Asso-

ciation’s QC Go Red for Women Lunch-

eon. Additionally, Kalipunan donated

funds to the American Red Cross Disaster

Relief efforts, Clinton Community School

District Nutrition Program, Humility of

Mary and Kings’ Harvest shelters, Riv-

erbend Food Bank and St. Pius X Food

Pantry in Rock Island, Illinois.

Kalipunan is unable to provide all these

services without our valued volunteers.

Our officers and board serve in volunteer

capacities. We’re always in need of a few

good men and women on our team. Phil-

ippine heritage isn’t a requirement to

volunteer with Kalipunan– only a desire

to serve and make a difference.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENTS AND NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS

Kalipunan is committed in partnering with

other non-profit groups in the QC area to

serve the community. Kalipunan volun-

teers assisted the Filipino- American com-

munity’s celebration of the Sto. Nino

Child Jesus by serving and cleaning up

during the festivities in March. In April,

our volunteers helped in the Hope at the

Brick House fundraiser. Our volunteers

cooked and served lunches at the Habitat

for Humanity Davenport builds in April,

July and August. They donated their time

at the John Deere Classic in July, and in

“You pray for the hungry. Then you feed them. This is how prayer works.”
