Dear Donors, Supporters and
fellow Volunteers,
Love and kindness always make
a difference. They bless the one
who gives as they bless the one
who receives. Because of your
love and kindness, Kalipunan is
able to fulfill its mission. For
two years, we were able to feed
the students at Lasien Elemen-
tary School in Badoc, Ilocos
Norte Philippines three times a
week during the school year.
This year, we added school sup-
plies to our donation to Lasien
Elementary and an electric fan to
a classroom in Ar-arusip Ele-
mentary. Our local donations this
year to Clinton Community
School District Nutrition Pro-
gram, Humility of Mary Shelter,
Kings’ Harvest, Riverbend Food
Bank and St. Pius Food Pantry
were much appreciated. We
continue to give to the Red
Cross’ Disaster Relief, serve
lunch to Habitat for Humanity,
volunteer for the John Deere
Classic and QC Go Red for
Women.
The Kalipunan volunteers’ cook-
ing was very much appreciated
at the Filipino Saints Celebration
in Clinton. We also raised funds
for our planned medical
missions.
Thank you for donating to our
biggest fundraiser, the Birdies
for Charity, my birthday and
Suki’s Facebook birthday fund-
raiser. We are very grateful.
As I hand over the presidency to
Sarah, I trust that with your con-
tinued support we will be able to
do more in the future. Again,
thank you very much and may
2019 be good to all of us.
Rosemarie M. Ancheta
President, 2017-2018
LUNCH PROGRAM CONTINUED IN 2018
Kalipunan continued to
fund the lunch program in
Lasien Elementary School
in the town of Badoc, Ilocos
Norte, Philippines. A pro-
ject that started in the begin-
ning of 2017 of outgoing
President, Rosemarie
Ancheta, the lunch program
succeeded in supplementing
nutritious meals to under-
nourished students of this
remote school village in
northern Philippines.
Meals were served three
times per week. Students
attending this school are
from food insecure families.
Kalipunan also provided
school supplies to the chil-
dren.

September, they shared Philippine cultural
values by sponsoring a Filipino Saints Day
at the Prince of Peace Parish in Clinton,
Iowa. The volunteers prepared and served
Filipino dishes, and provided historical
perspective on the lives of the holy men
considered by the Catholic Church as
saints. In November, volunteers helped
with set-up for the American Heart Asso-
ciation’s QC Go Red for Women Lunch-
eon. Additionally, Kalipunan donated
funds to the American Red Cross Disaster
Relief efforts, Clinton Community School
District Nutrition Program, Humility of
Mary and Kings’ Harvest shelters, Riv-
erbend Food Bank and St. Pius X Food
Pantry in Rock Island, Illinois.
Kalipunan is unable to provide all these
services without our valued volunteers.
Our officers and board serve in volunteer
capacities. We’re always in need of a few
good men and women on our team. Phil-
ippine heritage isn’t a requirement to
volunteer with Kalipunan– only a desire
to serve and make a difference.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENTS AND NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS
Kalipunan is committed in partnering with
other non-profit groups in the QC area to
serve the community. Kalipunan volun-
teers assisted the Filipino- American com-
munity’s celebration of the Sto. Nino
Child Jesus by serving and cleaning up
during the festivities in March. In April,
our volunteers helped in the Hope at the
Brick House fundraiser. Our volunteers
cooked and served lunches at the Habitat
for Humanity Davenport builds in April,
July and August. They donated their time
at the John Deere Classic in July, and in
“You pray for the hungry. Then you feed them. This is how prayer works.”
