Boy Scout and Girl Scout meetingstake place two times per month.The JCC Scouting program offers youth an

opportunity to develop skills, leadershipability and confidence while building lifelongfriendships. Youth BoardTeens 15-18The Youth Board is a teen leadership andcommunity service group. Witha wide array of both social and developmen-tal activities, children are engaged bytrained and professionally-supported staffto create some of the best memories oftheir summer.

Pearl’s ProjectPearl’s Project allows for elementaryschool aged children to experience socialnetworking through a secure blog. Facili-tated by professional staff, children areasked to share their experiences aroundtheir disability as well as their unique inter-ests. Our children benefit from responsesby typical peers. This is a great way tosafely introduce our children to social net-working sites such as Facebook and Twit-ter.

Disabilities Advisory CommitteeOur agency seeks to collaboratively designprograms for individuals with specialneeds. Our Disabilities Advisory Committeeprovides guidance around developing pro-gram goals as well as the steps necessaryfor accomplishing Special Needs Depart-ment objectives. We have a large selection of free group exercise classes geared to every level. Two complimentary 30 minute orientations are required for each new member and should

The JCC Stapleton Neighborhood Senior Center offers a wide variety of services to stim-ulate both body and mind. The nutritional program includes a warm, healthy and hearty,breakfast and lunch. Nutritional education and monthly blood pressure screenings, con-ducted by a registered nurse, are also offered. There are computer and ceramics classesas well as arts and crafts. Physical activities, taught by certified instructors include Tai-Chi, Yoga, aerobics, chair exercises and line dancing. Case assistance and referrals areprovided to all members to help resolve various personal matters pertaining to foodstamps, Access-A-Ride, rent arrears, Medicare and Medicaid, eviction prevention and muchmore. The JCC/Beacon program at TottenvilleHigh School provides opportunities tocommunity residents of the south shore ofStaten Island. Our goal is to offer addi-tional services such as: academic tutoring,recreation, leadership development andsocial services, all free of charge to ourcommunity. As we enter our third year at Tottenville,

we will be serving over 1,800 students andadults each month. We will continue tooffer services and activities that are nec-essary but not as available to our commu-nity residents as they would like. We willtry and be a resource for a lack of servicesthat our community residents’ desire.

Similar to the IS 49 program, there isan afterschool program for children followed by diverse activities for adults in theevening. Activities at the Beacon Satellite are age appropriate and based on the ex-pressed needs and interests of the participants. In April, 2011 Cornerstone moved intothe Gerard Carter Community Center. Regularly scheduled afterschool, evening andSaturday programs include academic, recreational, social services, and the arts.

Now in its 15th year of service to the com-munities of Park Hill and Stapleton on thenorth shore of Staten Island, the JCC/Bea-con Program offers a wide variety of es-sential services to school age children aswell as adults. Our mission is to provideactivities that are not generally availableto residents of these communities. Regu-larly scheduled afterschool, evening andSaturday programs include academic tu-toring, social services, recreation, leader-ship development, music, dance, art anddrama as well as nutritional counseling,pregnancy prevention, good health rec-ommendations, cultural and educationalspecial events. We provide services to over 1,200 youth

and adults each month.

Community Solar Powered Generator The JCC has been selected as a host site of acommunity solar powered generator for use onall of Staten Island. In the aftermath of Hurri-cane Sandy the need for emergency power wasa prime consideration. The generator can’tpower a house or building. However people cancharge cell phones, laptops, power tools, smallrefrigerators, lighting, etc. The generator wasprovided by Solar 1, a non-profit organizationconcerned with green energy, arts, and educa-tion.
