I cannot emphasize enough how vital I think this is for you, the parent, to talk to your child's teacher often throughout the school year. Let them get to know you. Let the teacher in on WHO your child is. Teachers have an enormous amount of experience and knowledge just waiting to be used. Some times all they need is a little insight into what may work best. They will be a better teacher if they can understand what you and your child need. After all, you are your child's best voice- use it! :) —Ms. Michelle As a child, growing up, I would hear this from my Mom anytime I had a complaint about my day at school. She would calmly look at me and say “Did you talk to the teacher?” I remember feeling frustrated because “I” didn't want to fix the problem. I wanted “her” to fix it for me. As I now know, having children of my own, there is much value to having that relationship with my child's teacher. That is the person who can make or break my child's day. It is so important that they understand what I want for my child. They are the education expert but I am Mom and I know Talk to the Teacher

This will definitely be a winter wonderland of fun! February will have us feeling that “Love is in the Air” as our groups will be involved in special love-themed crafts, art, role plays, poems, stories, songs and other creative activities. We will continue to encourage the students to show kindness and empathy to one another. February is also Dental Health Month and we will begin our Tooth Brushing Tuesdays. We will review Black History, with Martin Luther King, songs and skit presentations. We will also celebrate the Marriage of the letters “Q and U.” They are inseparable in words and we will host our annual celebration to cement this idea. As you can see, we will be very busy! Shining Stars

Mini Explorers Winter Break has ended and so has 2014. We participated in our first field trip to the Dollar Store in December! Each child was able to purchase gifts for friends and family. We even got to ride on the school bus! The students loved this!! “I like the bus!” said Jahmiah as we returned to school. We had so much fun on our Frozen Fun Friday as well:) The holidays are over but the fun keeps on

coming. January's journey began with our “Weather and Winter” theme. We are exploring the weather around us and the Winter season through songs, poems, videos, stories, and science experiments. Our group has become Weather Watchers as each child gives a report at CircleTime, throughout the month. Our Winter Wonderland event will be held on January 30th. Please wear WHITE!

We will ride the Polar Express and make special winter-themed crafts. You are welcome to join us as we make snow-globes, snowmen, participate in a snowball toss, bucket races and an obstacle course.

The New Year has gotten off to a GREAT start! Our theme in January was Winter and our friends have been working hard! Analise and Rivan both have enjoyed tracing, cutting and past-ing in our writing center. We welcomed Darrick, Easton and Nahomi from the Mini Explorers class and they have been a joy to get to know. All are adjusting nicely to their new classroom and rou-tines. We are looking forward to our Winter Wonderland on Friday, January 30th. We ask that every-one come dressed in WHITE that day please! :) In February we will talk about dental health, as well as our overall health and hygiene. We

will be learning about Groundhog Day, shadows and what that symbol-izes for our weather. Of course we will discuss Valentine's Day too.

We have some really fun activi-ties to support our “Love” theme. On February 13th we will exchange Valentine's cards in our classroom. Keep your calendar handy so you don't miss any special events!

It’s hard to believe it is already 2015!! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and New Year break with your family and maybe even got to sleep in a little!! We missed all of you, and especially the sweet smiles and warm hugs from your children! We are glad to be back with them, and are ready for a great year! Our theme this month was Winter Wonderland. We traveled all around the country to study different types of weather and animals that we see in the winter. Oakland had a wonderful visit from our middle school friends at Pine Crest Academy. We had so much fun playing together. Thank you Pine Crest! (You can check out pictures on our Face book page!) We are looking forward to our Winter Wonderland event on Friday,

WOAH! 2015 is here!! The after school family and I are enjoying the start to this new year. Welcome to a few new faces. Ms Deandra has joined our after school team and the children are loving getting to know her. Winter Break was Fantastic! The children got into the holiday spirit, purchased Gifts at the dollar store, wrapped them and made cards for friends and family. Daily field trips kept everyone busy, Bowling and Jump Zone were a hit! Fun Frozen Friday may need to become an annual event too. The students made their own Olaf and created their own version of apple bobbing at the park. Our group is

very creative! Spring Break is in March and we are hoping to have just as much fun, if not more! Fun is important but so is our school work. We understand the importance of performing well on those standard-

ized tests. To help prepare our students, we do encourage every child to read 20 minutes DAILY after they have completed their homework. We encourage ALL of
