New Beginnings Worship

Sunday, December 2nd at 10:30 a.m.

We have a wonderful New Beginning worship service planned. Kristel Peters has composed a new song that we will sing. Cathy Smith will share a faith story about the New Beginning she has experienced in her relationship with God. In the sermon Pastor Paul will talk about belonging to God and how that helps us have a new beginning. We will also be sharing a video about the ministry of Chain of Lakes. After worship we will enjoy a meal together. Everyone from Chain of Lakes is encouraged to “Just Bring One” to worship this Sunday. I have been especially proud to be the pastor of Chain of Lakes Church in the last two months. I am full of thanks!

Thanks to everyone who welcomed our Cameroonian friends on Presbyterian Day on November 11. What an amazing day of worship

we experienced. We estimated that 320 people came to worship that day—260 Cameroonian adults and children. Many of our Cameroonian friends shared with me how thankful they were that the people of Chain of Lakes were so gracious in sharing hospitality. We lived out our Core Value of welcoming

people as Jesus did—with oen arms and an open heart.

A special thanks to the twenty people who came over to Amy & my house after worship on the next Sunday, November 18. After worshipping together we stayed until 4:00 as we discerned the strategies God wants us to implement in 2013. I loved seeing the leaders of our congregation talking to each other, working together, and being united. It’s my experience that when a group is united God often will use that group to create something amazing. We have never been so united as a new congregation! The Steering Committee will be sharing the one goal and three strategies with the congregation after worship on Sunday, December 9.

December is one of my favorite months of the year. Sometimes it feels like a sensory overload of beautiful music that makes people smile. It is a month cram-packed with songs revolving around Christmas and celebration. Specific radio stations are dedicated to playing Christmas music 24/7, and there is a good sized section in our hymnal dedicated to Advent and Christmas hymns. So much music and such little time to sing it all! What is a Christmas music lover to do? Enjoy it! Share it! The songs we sing together are in anticipation and preparation to celebrate the most amazing new beginning of life this world has ever encountered, the birth of Christ! I want to encourage you to share the Christmas songs that have impacted you with others this season, you may be amazed at the stories and conversations that will come alive! Singing Gloria! Kristel

In Sunday school the children will be learning about a

variety of Christmas customs around the world.

The birth narratives found in Matthew and Luke are

important and will be used to convey how various

cultures communicate the story for Jesus. Each culture, in turn, re-tells the story in many ways, yet remain faithful to the Biblical story. Our study will include ancient traditions

along with modern adaptations.

December 2 – Sweden and the Festival of Lights

December 9 – How and why food has become important to

several celebrations

December 16 – A Mexican Posada, the search for the Christ

Child.

If you have a special way of celebrating Christmas and would like to share it with the Sunday school, please give Joanne Shingledecker a call at (651) 487-7944 and she

will schedule a time for you to come to class.

Chain of Lakes has renewed our relationship with Manna Market. Manna Market is a food recovery ministry shared with low-income people in Anoka County. Chain of Lakes has been asked to help Manna Market at Son Light Church of the Nazarene by providing four volunteers on the second and fourth Monday of every month. We will be helping on Monday, December 10 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
