Who Is In This Picture?
New Committee Elected at AGM
Autism NT held its
Annual General Meeting
(AGM) on Thursday, 19
September, 2013 at
CarersNT in Bayview.
There was a wonderful
turnout of dedicated
parents and carers.
The main point to any
AGM is the election of a
new committee and this
was efficiently
completed.
Julie Freeman (“old
President) gave a speech
highlighting the
wonderful growth and
forward movement over
the past two years. It
was full of warmth of
humour, much like Julie
herself.
Finally, she
acknowledged the
outgoing committee of
herself, Bindi Burnell
(Treasurer), Jenny
Dignan (Public Officer),
Jacqueline O’Reilly
(Secretary), Annie
Whybourne, Sophie
Kerr and Bobbie Bacon.
Autism NT is ever
grateful to the hard
work and dedication
shown by all these
people as they worked
for the benefit of all
people with ASD in the
Northern Territory.
The new committee was
then elected (see above
for a photo of your new
Autism NT Committee).
The first meeting of the
new committee was then
held. The committee is
excited about the
challenges ahead and
working with the
wonderful parent
volunteers who have
spearheaded the
amazing growth of
Autism NT in the past
year.

PAGE 2 NEW BEGINNINGS
Lucy Muller, a therapist at OT
for Kids NT, was a guest
speaker at our Parent Support
Group a few months ago. She
helped us to gain much needed
insight into the many ways the
world overwhelms our kids.
And, most importantly,
discussed ways that we could
put strategies into place to
help.
OT for Kids NT believes that
every child is unique and
amazing, full of potential and
doing the very best they can.
They believe that with a
helping hand, every child and
every family can grow into
their potential and live an
amazing, successful and
fulfilling life.
Shannon, Lucy and Brie use a
team approach and believe that
the child and family are the
most important part of that
team. They focus on your
goals and work closely with
other therapists, schools etc. to
ensure they are delivering the
best quality service.

In July we will definitely be

successful. Each will have a
committee, so if you have any
ideas, suggestions or just want
to be part of the fun, then

And in October, we will hold
the Cox Plate Ladies Day (see

Leandra Walker, Darwin’s
Cosmopolitan Hippy, was our
guest speaker recently and gave
a lively and very interactive
presentation on the effect of
nutrition on our mind and
body.
Many of our parents are very
concerned at the effect food
has on our kids—behaviourally
and emotionally. Leandra was
able to give great advice and
