3Were not told how much time elapsed between the beginning and the first day, in which God brought light into the world. It may have been only a short moment. It may have been millions of years. Its been speculated that there existed systems of life on our planet before the seven days of creation, that the earth may have even sustained other civilizations, with were completely destroyed or removed before the first day of ours. It seems likely that the angels went through a probation similar to ours, which may have even taken place on this planet. The bible doesnt state whether this was the case; its largely a deduction based on the fossil record. Its not the only possible explanation though. No doubt, the earths creation in seven days was a miraculous event. It was not something that natural circumstances would bring about or be able to explain. It was most certainly a direct manifestation of Gods power that brought the world as we know it into being. Perhaps, then, it would do us well to consider some other miracles. Christs first was performed at a marriage in Cana. It involved turning water into wine. Thats no great feat, really, any winemaker can do it given ample time. Simply add juice concentrate to the water, yeast, and place it in the correct environment for fermentation to occur and several weeks or months later, viola. The miracle of the operation was the fact that Christ did it instantaneously. Anyone drinking the wine though would be fully convinced the existence of the wine meant that it must have been grape juice months before, and that there had to have been a well-established grape vine from which those grapes were harvested. The natural reasoning would be that the existence of the wine proved that there existed a grape-vine at least two years before. Consider another creative miracle, that of the loaves feeding the multitudes. Christ performed a miracle in producing bread. When Mrs. Baird does it, its no miracle, because she follows the natural process of production. Christ did it in an instant, that being the real miracle. Now, like the wine, the eaters of the bread would say most certainly that there must have existed a wheat crop planted months before, and that the oil in the bread was no doubt from a producing olive tree (and olive trees take close to six years to begin producing). It would be natural to say that the existence of the bread was proof that there existed an olive tree at least six years before the bread was eaten. I think we find a parallel to this in the earth. It was created by a miraculous process, by an obvious manifestation of the power of God. When we look at the earth and try to deduce its age, we would be lead to believe it is millions of years old. By natural processes the oil and mineral deposits beneath us would take millions of years to be formed. The great rift in the Atlantic ocean would require close to the same amount of time. The rocky mountains would claim to have been building for much longer than the 6,000 years that the biblical record says there has been since the continents were raised from the water. There are bristlecone pine trees alive that have 4800 growth rings, and a history in dead trees that surpasses that 6,000 year mark as well. But consider creation. We would not imagine God to have created trees to look different than they do today. The only difference was that he created them instantly. They still contained growth rings. Same with the limestone that makes up most of Texas. It contains fossilized shells and sea creatures. Thats the way limestone is created, whether its done naturally, over time, or done instantly, by miracle. So, just as the miraculously created bread contained wheat flour and olive oil, implying that it had a past history, so the earths constitituent parts would imply that they had existed for many many millions of years. You see then, hopefully, that there are two possibilities of earths history. Either it was created long before the 7 days of creation or just before.3Out of Chaos, Into OrderThe earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep (Genesis 1:2)4
Regardless of past history (or absence thereof), we now find the earth empty and unformed. And dark. One thing we can know for certain. If anything existed on earth before our creation, it was no longer there when creation began.4
Out of Chaos, Into OrderGod said, Let there be light, and there was light And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.5
And God made the expanse and separated the waters from the waters the second day.5Job 38-41Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it, And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

Thus the heavens and the earth were finishedOut of Chaos, Into OrderIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John... Num 14:2110Failure ManifestoAnd the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Gen 2:911Failure ManifestoAnd the Lord God gave the man orders, saying, You may freely take of the fruit of every tree of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you may not take; for on the day when you take of it, death will certainly come to you. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 1Ti 2:13-1413Failure ManifestoAnd the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Gen 3:14-1514Failure ManifestoUnto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. Gen 3:1615Failure ManifestoAnd unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
