ACCREDITATION
Physicians: This activity has been planned and
implemented in accordance with in accordance with
the Essentials Areas and Policies of the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)
through the joint sponsorship of the American
Psychoanalytic Association and the Chicago Institute
for Psychoanalysis. The American Psychoanalytic
Association is accredited by the ACCME to provide
continuing medical education for physicians and
takes responsibility for the content, quality and
scientific integrity of this CME activity. The American
Psychoanalytic Association designates each Saturday
program as earning a maximum of 4 hours in category
1 credit towards the physicians Recognition Award.
Each physician should claim only those hours of credit
that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Founded in 1932, the Chicago Institute
for Psychoanalysis is one of the foremost
psychoanalytic training centers in the
world. For 75 years, it has served as a
recognized leader in the areas of treatment,
education, and community service. The
Institute’s mission is to provide training in
the theory and practice of psychoanalysis
and psychotherapy and to enhance
psychodynamic thought through research

The Institute for Psychoanalysis presents the sixth annual seminar
in honor of the memory of Marian Tolpin.
Guest SpeakerJoseph Lichtenberg, M.D.
There will be a talk by Joseph Lichtenberg entitled: The Origins of the
Sense of Self in Infancy and the Further Enlivening of the Self
through Psychotherapy followed by a Psychoanalytic Case Presentation
with commentary by Dr. Lichtenberg.
Joseph D. Lichtenberg, M.D., is one of the most creative,
Psychoanalytic Inquiry, Director Emeritus of
the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis,
and a former President of the International Council for
16 books, including Psychoanalysis and Motivation: A New Look
(Routledge, 2010); Craft and Spirit: A Guide to the Exploratory
Psychotherapies (Analytic Press, 2005); and Sensuality and
Sexuality across the Divide of Shame (Analytic Press, 2007).

W. Anderson, a leading psychobiographer who has interviewed
many of the people who were closest to Winnicott, exploring who
Winnicott was as a person and how his innovative psychoanalytic

experts on Winnicott explain how we may make use of Winnicott
in our clinical work and in our understanding of human interaction.
Joyce Slochower, who wrote a classic text, recently expanded and
published in a second edition (Holding and Psychoanalysis: A
Relational Perspective), considers how she as a relational analyst
clinician in his own right, examines ways of using Winnicott in his
written innovative papers that take off from Winnicott’s concept
of the use of the analyst, describes his perspective by showing its
application to a scene from the Bergman film, Autumn Sonata.
