Hassani Electrical & Electronic Engineering Department Shahed University Tehran, Iran Abstract—In this paper, a linear series fed Yagi-like antenna array is introduced leading to an end-re fan beam with low sidelobe level, SLL, high front to back ratio, F/B, and wide impedance bandwidth. The array can provide 29dB SLL at centre frequency of 16.26GHz, 20 dB SLL ba ndwi dth of 7. 5%, 23 dB F/ B and 10.6 % impedance bandwidth. Further improvement in SLL can be achieved by extending narrow strips from the nite ground plane of the antenna structure leading to some 32dB SLL at centre freque ncy and a 20dB SLL bandwidth of 8.7%. To verify the accu racy of the simulation results, both of the ar ra ys ar e fabricated and tested. Finally, to show the applicability of the proposed design, the linear end-re array of the above are stacked on top of each other and simulation results for a 2-D phased array are provided. 1. INTRODUCTION Prin ted antenna ar ra ys have gained a gre at deal of atten ti on and impet us fo r use in tele communic at ion syst ems such as poi nt to point an d poin t to mul ti point and also in radar mic rowave and millimeter sy st ems [1]. This is due to their numer ous attracti ve featu res such as ligh t weig ht, small si ze, low cost, high ecienc y , ease of fabrication and installation and in array designs the microstrip feed network can be placed on the same substrate as the microstip patc hes [1, 2]. Furthermore, they are generally economical to produc e since they are readily adaptable to hybrid and monolithic integrated circuits fabrication techniques at radio frequency (RF) and microwave frequencies [2].
