Muchlikethebeltsystemutilizedinmartialarts,theSequoyahInstrumentalMusicDepartmentutilizesthe“musicbelt”systemasamethodoftrackingstudentprogress,encouragingindividualpractice,andcelebratingmusicalachievements.Pleasenote:EveryoneMUSTdotheREQUIREDobjectives(foundonthereversesideofthisinformationsheet)thatareinboldbytheduedate.Assignmentduedateswillbeannouncedoneweekinadvance.Objectivesinboldareconsideredassessmentsandwillbeenteredintothegradebook.Ifyouwouldliketofurtherchallengeyourmusicianship,completetheentiresequence(allofthelistedobjectives)!StudentswhoreceivetheirBlackBeltwillberecognizedonthebandwebsite,attheend-of-yearawardsconcert,andwillalsoreceiveaSequoyahMiddleSchoolblackbeltwristband.Furthermore,chairplacementsineachsectionwillbedeterminedbytheMusicKaratesystem.Eachobjectivehasacorrespondingpointvalue.Studentswillberakedwithintheirsectionbasedontheamountofpointsthattheyhaveaccumulated.
Example:StudentAhascompletedtheirOrangeBeltandhasaccumulatedatotalof14points.StudentBhascompletedtheirOrangeBeltandoneassignmentintotheirGreenBelt,accumulating15points.StudentBwillberanked1stchairandStudentAwillberanked2ndchairintheirsection.
PassOffProcedures
Studentsmaypassoffobjectivesduringscheduledobjectivepassoff-days,duringlunch(byappointmentonly!),afterschool,oronlinethroughourwebsite(sequoyahmusic.com).AllperformancematerialMUSTbeperformedwithcharacteristictonequality,correctnotes,correctrhythms,dynamics,phrasing,andarticulations.Preparationmustbeclearlyevident!Failuretopassoffmaterialwillrequireaminimumofonedaytopracticetheobjectivebeforeanotherattemptcanbemade.
