Midland Slurry Systems, a specialist in the treatment of agricultural and industrial waste, has installed a Merlin progressing cavity pump from Mono Pumps at Chesterton House Farm in Wa~ickshire, UK. The pump is part of a system to distribute the liquid from cattle slurrv over farm fields.

Although essentially a waste product, the system

maximises the fertilising quality of the cattle slurry

by removing its water content and then spraying it

over crops and grazing areas.

The system installed at Chesterton was devised in

conjunction with NC Agricultural Engineering who

assisted with the filtration. The Merlin pump is

mounted in the farmyard and receives the purified

water from the filtration system. The pump has a

capacity of up to 3,000 I/h and is connected to

pulser devices situated in various fields up to 1,000

metres away. The pulser is fitted with a bladder

accumulator, which discharges the liquid when the

pressure reaches 7.5 bar. The self-priming pump

has constant flow rate and good solids handling

capabilities.

Midland Slurry Systems has now installed similar

units, incorporating a variety of progressing cavity

pumps from Mono, at over 30 farms in the

Midlands area of the UK.
