Promoting the dance of shag, fabulous beach music, and camaraderie between friends and community!
Where shagging is a way of life!
Letter from the President of the Coastal Shag Club
Hello Shaggers,
I hope you were able to attend both of our spooky and fun October dances to enjoy great costumes, great friendship, and of course great shagging. At our annual costume party at The Isles, prizes were awarded in various categories; congratulations to all who won! Check out our website for photos: www.coastalshagclub.org.
Thank you to the volunteers that gave their time at the NC Oyster Festival Coastal Shag Club booth for our membership drive. We generated a lot of interest in our shag club and our charities, and welcomed a number of folks attending our dances after seeing us at the festival. It is all of our great members that keep us going strong and continues to make us THE greatest shag club around. Thank you to Joan Wurtz for donating her beautiful painted jewelry box for the raffle. What a talent Joan has! Also, congratulations to CSC for winning first and third place in the Oyster Festival shag contest!
Do NOT miss this month’s dance – it is going to be a blow out! We’re celebrating our 2nd anniversary as a club, we are collecting dry goods for our area food pantry, we have our 2010 Re-Up special going on now through December 31st, we will have officer and board nominations during the dance, AND we’ll be sharing a Thanksgiving feast together. The club will be providing the turkey and the ham for our dinner and we are asking that the members provide the rest of the trimmings. Don’t forget to let Teresa Boyd know what type of side dish or dessert you are bringing. I am sure it is going to be another great CSC party and I hope to see as many of you “CSC Shakers” there that can attend.
Look for opportunities coming soon for you to get involved supporting the club and our charities with your time and talents. As a volunteer organization, it takes ALL of us to keep it going and to keep it fun. This is YOUR club and we encourage everyone’s participation. We need you to help CSC stay great!
At this time of year, I think about what I am thankful for. It has been a phenomenal two years since the Coastal Shag Club was first formed! We continue to grow and improve and make a tremendous impact on our community. We are ambassadors of the shag dance and beach music and I personally am thankful for CSC and each and every one of you. As I enjoy our mild climate moving into the winter season, I am thankful to live in this area, to share a common love of beach music with great people, and to have the opportunity to meet together to enjoy shag dancing, as often as we can.
I look forward to many more years of exciting growth within our club and to many more wonderful things that the club can do for the community, all born out of our love for this great dance called the Shag. Remember to support the businesses that support shagging. Happy Anniversary to you all and I hope to see you all on the dance floor.
Remember, when in doubt Pivot …..

At the November dance the club will provide turkey and ham and we ask that our members provide side dishes to compliment the main dishes. Look for sign up sheets at the dance to indicate what side dish you will contribute. THANK YOU for being a part of & making the Coastal Shag Club the best in town!
Thank you to the Gary and Jo Sellers for

The NC Oyster Festival. What a fantastic weekend. The Coastal Shag Club was well represented and we certainly our best to get the word out about our club here in Shallotte. We gained lots of new exposure through the booth we worked at the festival and of course, our club really shined on the dance floor. On Sunday, two of our club couples got out there are competed in the dance contest.
Gary & Jo Sellers took third place and Mike & Julie Rogers were the first place winners in the dance contest. CONGRATULATIONS to you all. It takes lots of practice and an amazing amount of courage to get out there and shake your groove thing in front of so many admirers. Thanks for making the club proud!
At the festival we collected information from people interested in shagging. In exchange for the contact info, we entered all interested persons in a raffle to win a beautiful hand painted jewelry box so kindly
donated to the club by Joan Wurz.

BRING A GUEST . . . We are always trying to increase attendance at our dances and yes, everyone is welcome at our dances. We enjoy getting to know new people and promoting beach music and shag dancing. Currently, all shag club members, including members of other shag clubs, pay our $5 member entry price at the door. If there is a non-shag club member guest that you would like to request have entrance into the dance for member price, please see any board officer for approval prior to the dance. We unfortunately cannot allow free entry to our dances to anyone. It would be unfair to our own members who pay a $5 admission price. If you would like to invite someone to our dance as your guest, we welcome that person and ask that the inviting member pay for their guest's entry to the dance. If you have questions,
please see any officer.
If you are interested in serving as an officer or board member of the Coastal Shag Club, please let Kim Smith know. Kim is a current board member and is heading up our nominating committee.
Elections will be held at our December so we need to get all nominees as soon as possible.
In order to serve as an officer or board member you don’t have to have a master’s degree or even a high school degree. You just need to totally enjoy shag dancing, socializing and helping the community we live in. The officers meet once a month in addition to our monthly dance and those meetings generally last about 1 to 1.5 hours. The officers and board members basically work to coordinate members and community events to make a positive impact on the community and . . . get this . . . the dance of shag! What an amazing thing it is to be a part of!
So, come on and join the fun and make a difference.

TWAS THE NIGHT of THANKSGIVING
Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn’t sleep.
I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned – the dark meat and white,
But I fought the temptation with all of my might.
Tossing and turning with anticipation,
The thought of a snack became infatuation.
So, I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door
And gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump & so round,
‘Til all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky,
With a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie.
But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees
“Happy eating to all! Pass the cranberries please!” May your stuffing be tasty, your turkey be plump.
Your potatoes “n gravy have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious, your pies take the prize.
May your Thanksgiving dinner stay off your thighs.
Have a happy, wonderful, safe Thanksgiving!
