JONATHAN MASTERSMASTERS FINANCIAL PLANNING LTD

“As an IFA considering a change in business model, you worry about the promises you have made to your clients and want to ensure they will be fulfilled in the new environment. As a result, when considering St. James’s Place, their client servicing solution had to work. Since moving across, my worries have largely abated and all of the promises made to me by St. James’s Place have come through. This is very reassuring as it doesn’t happen much in this industry. I had 2,500 clients before and I haven’t lost one. I ensured, with the help of St. James’s Place, my clients were kept well informed and understood the benefits to them. Realistically most were indifferent to whom the mother company was; they trusted me as their adviser and as long as my name was on the paperwork they were comfortable.”

IVAN MACKENZIE

“When Jonathan first told me he was considering St. James’s Place I was indifferent. I have always valued his honesty and integrity and so I trusted both his viewpoint and decision. I didn’t have an opinion of St. James’s Place before; however I have been very impressed. The areas I had concerns over seem very well laid out, the paperwork is very good and the transition was seamless. Jonathan has always come back to me very quickly with answers and solutions; however since joining St. James’s Place it is clear he has access to bigger and deeper pools of knowledge. I think he’s got more information across to me quicker. I know Jonathan and he has always done a great job and I now feel I have the best of both worlds. I have someone I know and trust working under the umbrella of a very good and efficient organisation.”

“My biggest concern when considering St. James’s Place was that I was an IFA and believed nothing could beat that. As a result, I was really nervous about how my clients would perceive the change. However, after taking the time to understand the St. James’s Place proposition, I could see the benefits to my clients; and due to the trust I had built with them, all 300 are still my clients.

My decision to join was largely driven by the St. James’s Place approach to investment management. As an IFA the amount of funds available was becoming more and more vast, so not only did I feel an individual couldn’t do a good enough job for clients, I also felt I was building up a potential liability. The support of the Investment Committee and Stamford Associates gives me great confidence that my clients are being properly and professionally looked after and my clients notice the difference. With the St. James’s Place brand they also feel secure that their money is being well looked after and say that I come across with greater confidence when making my recommendations. Since joining St. James’s Place, all the necessary procedures and IT support were in place to service my existing clients and this allowed me to continue to deliver the promises I had made to them as an IFA. Although there were changes to my back office, there was no change to the relationships I had built with my clients and the job I did for them. Since, the feedback has been very positive and I get more referrals: a true reflection that my clients are happier.”

GEOFF GRIFFITHS

“Having had previous financial advisers, I have found Liz more communicative, more responsive and more understanding of my concerns and objectives. Therefore when Liz first told me she was moving over to St. James’s Place, it was of no concern. At the time I had no opinion of St. James’s Place and, in truth, did not know them in any detail. I have found from past experience there always seems to be a catch as generally people make changes for their own interest. However, whilst it’s worked out for Liz, it has also definitely worked out for me. Since Liz aligned with St. James’s Place the service I receive is more reactive, the communicative side doesn’t compare and my investment performance is significantly better. I have set up new investments with St. James’s Place and am in the process of moving my existing funds over. From a practical point of view, the transition was unnoticeable. It was managed very smoothly and I was informed of what was happening all along. I wouldn’t have an association with St. James’s Place without Liz but as far as I’m concerned it’s a great combination.”

MORE TIME WITH THEIR ADVISER

Our experience tells us that more time is what both the client and adviser ultimately want. Clients are best served by having relationship-based, face-to-face advice with an adviser that they trust. St. James’s Place provides its Partners with the infrastructure and support to alleviates time pressures and make this a reality.

When an adviser makes the decision to sell all or part of their practice, this can be a daunting and unsettling experience for their clients. The St. James’s Place Business Sale & Purchase scheme has been built with the client at the centre of the process.

PROCESS

St. James’s Place will work alongside the Selling Partner to identify a Buying Partner. • This allows a good client/adviser fit.• Clients trust their adviser and therefore will be reassured of being looked after in the future.

St. James’s Place will put an actuarial value on the Partner’s business.• This ensures no bias and that clients and the new Partner are matched on compatibility.

The Buying Partner introduces themselves to your clients and continues to provide the service promised to them by you. Although the client’s relationship with their adviser changes:• Their relationship with St. James’s Place stays the same.• There is no change to the investment philosophy.• There is no change to the way their money is invested.• There are no costs or upheaval.

The client benefits from:• A fresh perspective and different ideas.• Continuity of advice and service.
