Flotation cells designed for moreprotable minerals concentration

Exclusive Design, ProvenSuperiorityWEMCO 1+1 Flotation Machinesfeature a unique design that isdemonstrably superior to othermechanical otation systems. Indirect comparisons by major miningcompanies, WEMCO 1+1 cells haverepeatedly delivered higher recoveryand grade with easier start-up,simpler operation, lower reagentconsumption, longer mechanismlife and less required maintenance.WEMCO is a world leader in largecell technology with the greatestinstalled capacity of any otationmanufacturer.

    Unique Flotation

MechanismAt the heart of each 1+1 cell isa patented rotor-disperser thatdelivers intense mixing and aeration.Ambient air is drawn into the celluniformly distributed throughoutthe pulp, providing optimum air/ particle contact. In larger cells a false

bottom and draft tube channel slurryow, ensuring high re-circulation andeliminating sanding. This combinationof efcient aeration and optimumsolids suspension gives WEMCO1+1 cells the highest specie recoveryand concentrate grade performanceavailable, and reduces reagentconsumption.

Self-Induced AerationAirow into the pulp is inducedby the turning rotor. No forcedair supply system is required, eliminating the capital and operatingcosts of blowers and distributionpiping. Airow compensation forvarying feed densities is automatic, minimizing the operator attention

required. An additional benet isthat one mechanism can be removedfor service without interruptingproduction, unlike forced-air systemswhich require shut down of an entirecell bank for service access to a singlemechanism.

Choose WEMCO forProductivity Superior air dispersion and high

slurry re-circulation ensureadequate residence time foroptimum recovery and concentrategrade.

Elevated Rotor PositionTo reduce wear on rotor anddisperser surfaces, WEMCO designershave positioned the 1+1 aerationmechanism well above the tankbottom, eliminating contact withabrasive, oversized tramp material. After shutdown, the elevated rotorallows 1+1 cells to be restartedinstantly, unlike conventional designswith rotor and oor-mounted statorlocated in the zone of heaviest solidsaccumulation.

Large Design ClearancesAerator mechanism erosion is furtherreduced by large design clearancesbetween rotor and disperser. Normalwear life of a Wemco 1+1 mechanismis 2 - 4 times that of closely spacedconventional rotor/stator designs.Because WEMCO mechanisms staywithin design tolerances longer, peak metallurgical performance ismaintained over a longer period, further enhancing protability.

    Simple design, rugged construction,exible operation

13 Cell SizesA wide range of cell sizes from 1 to3,000 cubic feet offers eld provenmachines for virtually any application.

Reliable, Automatic LevelControlA unique electronic/pneumatic levelcontrol system uses dual bubble tubesor ultra-sonic devices to accuratelymeasure and precisely control pulplevel regardless of uctuations indensity. Convenient panel displaysprovide continuous, easy-to-readaccess to operating information. ThisPLC unit integrates easily with millDCS systems for complete remoteoperation from the control room, including set point and processvariable readout.

Durable Rotor-DisperserMaterialsThe rotor blade and stator are moldedfrom thick abrasion-resistant rubber. The elasticity and toughness of thismaterial provides maximum protectionagainst attrition, even in applicationswhere the pulp contains excessivecoarse or abrasive material.

Rugged MechanismAssemblySimplicity and rugged constructionmake the WEMCO 1+1 Flotationmechanism extremely reliable andkeeps maintenance to a minimum.A heavy-duty bearing stand supportsthe motor driven V-belt and shaftassembly. Twin oversized antifriction

bearings mounted in coast ironhousing maintain accurate shaftalignment, ensuring smooth, trouble-free rotor operation. The stand pipe, disperser, and hood are suspendedbeneath the base plate.

Reversible OperationComplete sectional symmetry allowsthe 1+1 rotor to be operated eitherclockwise or counter-clockwise androtated end-for end, permittingtransposition of worn and unwornsurfaces and further extendingmechanism life.

Many Particle Sizes TreatedEfciencyWEMCO 1+1 Flotation cells arecommonly used in coarse oat

applications such as phosphate andpotash with feeds of up to 85% plus65 mesh an maximum particle sizes aslarge as 10 - 12 mesh.

Flexible, Modular Tank andBox DesignThe basic module of the WEMCO 1+1Flotation system is a cell consistingof a single tank and mechanism.Several cells are bolted together toform a otation machine with feed, connection and discharge boxes asrequired. Pulp level in the tanks iscontrolled by automatically operateddart valves in the connection anddischarge boxes. All boxes areelastomer lined for maximum abrasionresistance.

    WEMCO Flotation Machine Design Scale-Up

The table on the left lists key designparameters which govern geometricand hydrodynamic scaleup proceduresfor WEMCO 1+1 machines, assuring comparable metallurgicalperformance in all cell sizes.

Air Escape Velocity recognizes airooding limits where excess air owproduces large bubbles, pulp surfacegeysering and froth disruption.

Specic Circulation Intensity relatespulp turnover frequency to cell size.

Air/Pulp Mixing Residence Timeand Mechanism Power representsmixing conditions in the rotor-disperser region where air-particlecontact is established.

Pulp Circulation Velocity isdetermines by the solids suspensionrequirements of the feed. Thisnumber increases for larger cellsbecause solids must be suspendedover a larger span.

Froude Number also indicates thesolids suspension capability of themechanism.

Air Capacity Number is recognizedmetallurgical performanceoptimization parameter.

These gures show the hydrodynamic(air transferpulp circulation)characteristics* of 4 large WEMCOFlotation machines, and typify allWEMCO machine sizes for 3000 to

1cu. ft. in volume. For any givenmachine size orrotor diameter, the air transferpulp circulationrelationship can beoperationally variedby changing rotorspeed and/or rotorsubmergence inthe pulp. Increasingrotor speed atxed submergenceproduces higher airtransfer and pulpcirculation rates, while increasingrotor submergenceat xed speed

increases pulpcirculation andreduces airtransfer. Thisprovides machineexibility for theachievementof optimummetallurgicalperformance forne, coarse, and
