Mr V’s news...Another week has come around and we are exceptionally proud of what a wonderful school of which we are a part. I was walking through the playground during Infants Sport on Friday and our school feels like a happy place to be! Our staff and students should be so proud of this positive learning environment.

It’s been lovely to see some of our students who have recently moved on to Warialda High School. I know that the staff have been getting a thrill from receiving friendly waves and smiles from our former students as they travel past the school on the buses. It was also really pleasing to hear Mrs Shelly Way speak in such glowing terms of the way in which the Year 7 cohort have started the school year at WHS. Great work!

You have probably noticed that our school grounds are simply amazing. I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work of our General Assistant, Mr Richard Sheehan who continues to maintain our grounds and facilities to an incredible standard. WPS is quite a large site and Mr Sheehan has every aspect looking perfect. We’re certainly very appreciative of his hard work!

Last Monday,12 WPS students represented their school and Inverell Zone at the Regional Carnival in Armidale. They were competing for a place in the North West Swimming Team. Whilst all of our swimmers were exceptional, ultimately two swimmers have gained selection in the North West Team that will race at the upcoming State Championships in Sydney. Congratulations to Max Barwick and Os van Velthuizen who have earned their place in this team. A wonderful accomplishment!

It’s with great excitement that we can announce that the 2020 QuickSmart Numeracy Program is set to get underway this week. This program will see students involved participate in three, thirty-minute sessions a week – for thirty weeks developing the speed and knowledge of number facts. A sincere thanks is extended to Mrs Sarah Taylor and Mrs Loretta Brown who have recently returned from professional learning at the University of New England and have been busily preparing for the 2020 program.

In 2020, we made a decision to double the capacity of our Speech Therapy Program. Mrs Tammy Hall has joined Mrs Rachel Nieddu in this program working shoulder to shoulder with Mrs Sandy Scotton to deliver the immensely eff ective Speech Therapy Program. We’re delighted to provide this service at WPS and are very proud of the positive impact that it is having.

Our PSSA Cricketers were due to travel to Bingara last Thursday but this game was rescheduled due to the inclement weather. The boys have this morning made the journey for this fi xture against Bingara Central School. The fi rst ball will be bowled at 10am with the game being played at Bingara Central School. We wish the whole team every success and look forward to reporting on the result. A sincere thanks is extended to Mrs Shelley Turnbull from BCS for her outstanding organisation of this event.

Tomorrow, three WPS students will attend the Inverell Zone Cricket Trials here at school. They will be joined by students from a number of schools in our Zone - participating in a net and fi elding session. We wish Sam, George and Os every success for this trial.

This Friday, we shall host our second assembly of 2020 with Mr Porter and 5/6P hosting this event. Last week we enjoyed a huge turn out from our community with over 90 visitors attending! Each assembly is a lovely occasion where we can celebrate the success of students who have been identifi ed as doing great things. We are very sincere in expressing our desire for as many parents and family members as possible to join us at assemblies to be on hand and share the excitement of students receiving this acknowledgement. I look forward to seeing you there. Have an awesome week!
