TRY EASTEast London
FROM SHOREDITCH TO CANARY WHARF, THE REINVENTION OF EAST LONDON IS A RELATIVELY RECENT STORY. CANNING TOWN AND THE LONDON BOROUGH OF NEWHAM FORM PART OF THE LATEST CHAPTER, WITH HALLSVILLE QUARTER SET TO CONTINUE THE LEGACY AND ESTABLISH A NEW ERA.
Combining wonderful social spaces and quality
amenities, East London’s tradition as the creative heart
of London continues to attract a diverse community
of people. Broadway Market, Colombia Road Flower
Market and Regent’s Canal are full of interesting sights,
smells and secret locations to discover. Animated and
characterful, a plethora of galleries and fashion
boutiques across the district ensures there’s always
something new to explore.
Expanding rapidly, London Borough of Newham
is quickly becoming an extension of its neighbours.
Already boasting an impressive number of ambitious
projects such as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and
Westfield Stratford City, the area is one of the most
engaging and increasingly exciting places in the country.

HISTORICALLY ASSOCIATED WITH PROSPERITY AND TRADE, LONDON’S ROYAL DOCKS WERE CONSIDERED THE LYNCHPIN OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE, PROVIDING A GRAND MARKETPLACE FOR A VAST ARRAY OF COMMODITIES. THE FOCUS HAS NOW RETURNED AS THE DOCKS HERALD A NEW ERA.
The £3.8 billion investment into Discovery Tower, Hallsville Quarter
and London Borough of Newham, along with the wholesale
development of The Docks, means where industry once blossomed,
culture and business now flourishes. Chinese developer ABP
has impressively and sustainably transformed London’s Green
Enterprise District with the aim to attract a wide variety of leading
international organisations.
Aside from business opportunities a diverse programme
of exhibitions, performances, events and activities ensures local
residents have a wealth of entertainment options on their doorstep.
The ExCeL Exhibition Centre situated at the Royal Victoria
Docks, provides the opportunity to enjoy some of the most
exclusive shows in London. Hosting prestigious events such as
the London Classic Car Show, the exhibition space is accessible
via the Emirates Air Line, Britain’s first urban cable car. Offering a
unique view of London from here you’ll discover some of the
capital’s most iconic buildings and attractions, you may even
see a few you’d never have thought of.
NEWHAM
THE O2 DOME, THE FOCUS OF THE MILLENNIUM CELEBRATIONS, IS THE LARGEST STRUCTURE OF ITS KIND IN THE WORLD –
BIG ENOUGH TO HOUSE THE GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA OR THE STATUE OF LIBERTY.
A little closer to home and only minutes away by foot from Discovery
Tower, WakeUp Docklands is a watersports centre where paddle
boarding and water jets can be enjoyed in front of one of London’s
most extraordinary skylines. For those feeling less adventurous there’s
an area dedicated to open-air swimming in what has to be one of the
most scenic open water venues in the world.
When back on dry land The Line is an engaging and unique
experience for both locals and tourists alike. Art improves any public
realm and this is London’s first modern and contemporary art walk.
Fourteen sculptures spread between The O2 and the Queen Elizabeth
Olympic Park are set against a backdrop that fuses Greenwich
Peninsula’s industrial past with London’s ambitious present. Artists on
display include Damien Hirst and Antony Gormley.
Further highlighting the area’s dedication to helping promote art,
Trinity Buoy Wharf is a ten-minute walk from Discovery Tower.
A thriving centre for the arts and creative industries, the organisation
has to date helped fund numerous local projects. The area is
also the new home to one of London’s most illustrious institutions,
the English National Ballet, as well as City Island.
A “micro-Manhattan” swathed in Gingko trees and beautifully
landscaped public spaces, City Island contains a plethora of
independent bars, artisan cafes and organic grocery stores perfect
for strolling around on a day off or evening out. Accessible via a
specially commissioned bridge next to Canning Town Station the
island promises to be a premium destination for anyone wanting to
discover a night out in 21st century East London.
