Page 25: Welcome to study at Aalto University!

Be active student• Provide your feedback regarding courses and also the major as a

whole• Course feedback is collected after every course and is valuable for

course development• Additionally feedback sessions with students and teachers will be

organized as a part of CHEM-E0100 Academic Learning Community course

• Take care of your studies • Check internet sources -> INTO, MyCourses, WebOodi, SISU• Read your aalto.fi e-mails• Can’t find information or unsure -> please, ask

6.9.201925

Page 26: Welcome to study at Aalto University!

Why should you earn your degree within two academic years?Requires an average of 60 credits per yearWHY?

• It shows your potential future employers that you are able to commit to your studies and that you can acquire a wide spectrum of new knowledge while keeping to an agreed schedule

• CHEM rewards students for degree completed within target time -> 500€

• It’s a fast track to summer jobs at departments

FunMat goes to Pub• Thursday 5.9.2019 in the restaurant FatLizard in Otaniemi, Tietotie 1, 5 mins from CHEM

building • At least lecturer Ville "Joksa" Jokinen, lecturer Kirsi Yliniemi and Professor Sami Franssila

will be there from 17:00 onwards• The goal of the event is to be a very informal occasion where the students and teaching

staff can get to know each other outside of the classroom/learning environment. This can hopefully make the academic year ahead more pleasant and productive for all parties by braking the ice between staff and students.

• There is no formal agenda, some possible activities:• Drinking, e.g. beer, milk (optional)• Eating, e.g. pizza (optional)• Chatting (very optional)

• The aim is that this is a very low commitment event, come when you want, leave when you want, do what you want while you are there. So hopefully as many as possible can join us next Thursday. No need to sign up.

CHEM-E0140 Laboratory Safety Course

& Lab PassInstructions to Digital Lab Safety CourseUniversity Lecturer, D.Sc. Kirsi Yliniemi

[email protected] Year 2019-2020

Page 36: Welcome to study at Aalto University!

You must take CHEM-E0140 laboratory safety course in order to take any lab courses in CHEM, if you have not done any of the following courses previously:• CHEM-A1010 Turvallinen työskentely laboratoriossa• CHEM-A1200 Kemiallinen rakenne ja sitoutuminen (ennen

vuotta 2017)

6.9.201936

Page 37: Welcome to study at Aalto University!

CHEM-E0140 Laboratory Safety Course is 100 % digital course

It allows you to familiarise with the material and take the exam

- whenever you want!1) Familiarize yourself with Virtual Lab

Space (in MyCourses)2) Take the digital exam (in MyCourses)

Page 38: Welcome to study at Aalto University!

What to do?1. Sign into the course “CHEM-E0140 Laboratory Safety Course”

in WebOODI (oodi.aalto.fi)• If you encounter problems in signing in, please inform your full name and student

ID by email to [email protected] she can add you manually to the course

2. Go to the MyCourses page of “CHEM-E0140 Laboratory Safety Course” (mycourses.aalto.fi)

3. Follow the link to Virtual Lab• Visit different Action Points in different rooms: remember to turn around in the

spaces (360°), using a mouse or touch screen• Read the provided material, watch videos, make the mini-games etc.• Estimated time: 2-3 h

4. Take the Digital Exam in the MyCourses• You will be notified immediately whether you passed the exam (>50 % of the

points).• You can try to take the exam as many times as you like…but the questions keep

changing.• You can have the provided material open in Virtual lab at the same time as you take

the exam Try not to just guess This for your own safety

Page 39: Welcome to study at Aalto University!

Go and pick you lab pass from Student Info Desk (CHEM building, downstairs lobby)THURSDAY 5th September onwards

Show from MyCourses that you have passed the digital exam with > 50 % points (use your laptop, smart phone etc.)

After you have passed Digital Safety Exam LAB PASS

We have printed Lab Passes during the summer and maybe our name lists were not complete- So if your pass has not been printed yet, please be patient- The student advisor will take your name and you will get your pass in due course
