To report any suspected or actual sexual abuse of a minor by Diocesan personnel, immediate contact should be made with local civil authorities, and with the Toledo Diocesan Victim Assistance Coordinator at 419-243-2150 or 419-244-6711, ext. 4880.

From Fr. Dave Bruning …. Soon we will begin this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA). Each registered household will be receiving an ACA mailing from Bishop Thomas in the mail within the next week or two. And next weekend (March 2-3) we will hold our ACA In-Pew Weekend as I will address the work of the ACA in our diocese. Last year, for the first time in many years, our diocese achieved its goal for the ACA fundraising. What is the ACA all about? It provides for ministries in our diocese which individual parishes, on their own, could not do. For instance, it provides for the support and training of our seminarians training for the priest-hood. It funds the training for deacons as well. Deacon Gary and I are already looking for prospects for our next deaconate class in a year or two. While I was in Wauseon, the Multicultural Ministries helped to provide for cele-brants for our weekly Spanish Mass. These are but a few of the ministries supported by ACA. As I mentioned, you will soon receive more information in a mailing along with a pledge envelope. I have supported the ACA personally and urge you to consider doing so. So many ministries in our diocese depend upon this support. Please give this mailing your prayerful consideration.

LENT 4.5

Instead of giving up chocolates for Lent try Christian Simplici-

ty—a 7 week program beginning Weds., March 6, at 7 PM in the Lourdes Room. Sponsored by The Eliza-beth Ministry, the one hour presentations are free and open to all parishioners. Using the traditional Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting and almsgiving Lent 4.5 offers people of faith practical opportunities to apply the values of Christian Simplicity to their everyday lives. The first session will define Christian Simplicity and how it relates to responsible and sustainable living. Coffee and tea will be provided but as a starting point for personal change to patterns of consumption please bring your own coffee cup. Registration or questions, call Rose (419)385-8122.

The Toledo Regnum Christi Women's Group would like to thank Our Lady of Lourdes for host-ing a celebration of marriage on Valentine’s Day, 2019. The evening consisted of the holy Mass, which included a renewal of marriage vows, and was fol-lowed by a dinner in our Parish Life Center. Consider joining us next year on Friday, February 14, 2020. All married and engaged couples and those who want to pray for and support the vocation of marriage are in-vited. More information will be forthcoming as we get closer to the date.

Daughters of Mary monthly dinner meeting will be this Thursday, February 28, starting at 6 p.m. in the Parish Life Center. Members, re-member we are having our ‘baby shower’ for Heartbeat of Toledo. One of its representatives will be a guest speaker along with a rep. from the American Red Cross. Anyone interest-ed in joining our active church wom-en’s group is very welcome to attend.

7th Sunday in Ordinary Time This Sunday, Jesus continues his challenging Sermon on the Mount. "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back." Words like these are challenging! Many of us have grown up in a culture of independence and retaliation against those who harm us. Today's Gospel reminds us that the way of the world is not necessarily the way of the disciple. In many spiritual texts, saints describe the first stage of the spiritual life as mercenary love of God. That is, we love Him because he "pays" us with graces and good things. Consider for a moment, why do you do the good that you do? Take volunteering, for example. How often do we talk about the good feelings service evokes and how you "get so much more than you give." This is still based on an attitude of return on our investment. Would we volunteer if we knew it was good to do, but we didn't "feel" good afterward? What if the people we helped seemed ungrateful, or if someone at the food pantry stole $20 out of our purse? It can be difficult to love people when we think we might not get anything back. "For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?" As Christians, we are called to imitate God. We follow a God who loves not only His clos-est friends, but who loves betrayers, deniers, and crucifiers. The Christian walk is one of perseverance and sacrifice. What does your love look like?

Last weekend we asked you to pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance in considering how your future will look, what is it that the Spirit is asking you to do with your life. When we plan our life’s path, we just don’t look at to-morrow, but look to see what our future may look like. So, as you prepare for the 40 days of Lent, we ask you to consider what Jesus has said, “When I was hun-gry you gave me something to eat,” When I was thirsty you gave me something to drink, when I was naked you gave me clothes, and when I was homeless you gave me shelter.” These are the things that those of us, as members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, experience when we serve those in need within our parish boundaries. We see the face of Christ in everyone we serve. Next weekend you will have a chance to explore the benefits of becoming a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul here at Our Lady of Lourdes. Join us after mass and see how your talents can benefit the peo-ple in need within our parish boundaries and you as well. Please make it a point to take a few minutes after Mass to stop and learn more about the Society of St. Vin-cent de Paul. May the Holy Spirit be with you always. -The members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul

On behalf of our brothers and sisters throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, we thank you for your com-passion and care. We are blessed by and grateful for your generosity.
