Defining Circulation Services
Circulation Services is the department where all kind of materials are checked out and checked in as well as provide services of renewal, viewing borrowing items, hold requests etc. Circulation desk is located at main entrance of Library.

Circulation: Patron Record Creation
Patron record is created in Virtua in MARC format with the following fields having necessary information.

* Course reserve is issued only for three hours. ** Including 4 course reserves
All registered users are entitled to borrow materials from the library. Borrowing privileges are different depending on the membership category. The borrowing privileges for course reserve* and general books are:
Circulation: Library Clearance
All Graduating Students and outgoing faculty/visiting/adjunt, staff, and RA, TAs need to get clearance from all departments including library, after the completion of their session. Student clearance is done through graduating student s list provided by PCO.Faculty/Adjunct/visiting and staff need to come to library and get their clearance.
Circulation Rules
Presentation of a valid library card is a must for any checkout at the circulation desk. General books (except overdue & requested) may be renewed. Requests can be made for checked out material through iPortal or visiting the library
circulation desk. If you accidentally misplace a book and can't find it after a thorough search, you should
report this to the Circulation Desk immediately to avoid overdue fine. Books accidentally damaged should be reported so that suitable assessment can be made
and damages paid. Any material not returned or renewed within 60 days of the date due will be considered lost.
Circulation: Library Fines
Overdue Books
Rs.10 per book per day.
Lost Books
In case of loss or damage, the student will be charged three times
the current price of the item.
Course Reserve
This material is issued for three hours only. If the material is not returned
within the allocated time, a fine of Rs.50/- for each extra hour will be charged.
Disciplinary Fine
Rs. 500 on first time violation, Rs. 1000 on second time violation. If a patron the violation,
the case could be referred to Value & Ethics Committee on fourth violation.
NOTE:
System generated over due and fine notices will be sent on official email account. All
library fines are only paid at MCB booth LUMS. Library account will be blocked if the
fine exceeds Rs.5000/-

Text Books (Purchase, Reprinting)
Text books are integral part of teaching resources and needs special attention because of their costly nature and urgent requirements of the Faculty
Teaching Resource librarian is responsible for facilitation of the purchase of text books through library bookshop and reprinting of the same if they are required in large quantity.

What are Course Reserves
Articles, books or other materials selected by the instructor and held (reserved) at the circulation desk for a particular class or course. Now the courses are also available online on portal.

Current Course ReservesA course reserve that is presenting in the current semester having status On reserve is called active reserve.
Passive Course ReservesA course reserve that has been presented in the previous semester and having status course reserve passive is called passive reserves.
Teaching ResourcesWorkflow of course reserves Receiving of tentative list of courses for the upcoming Semester from the
registrar’s office. Check from the list received from the registrar’s office that how many courses
were offered in the previous Semesters. Move the courses of last Semester to the passive reserve also make sure that
the status of these courses has been changed to passive reserves. Inform departmental coordinators regarding previously offered courses so that
they can confirm from the faculty whether the concerned faculty member want to offer the reading package as it is or want to bring some changes in that.
Departmental coordinators will provide a list of courses which will be offered as it as from the previous Semesters.
Make necessary changes in the title page of the reading package including change of instructor name, Semester and spine label.
Regularly pursue departmental coordinators to ensure that reading packages are received well in time.
Prepare tags of the reading packages from the list received from the registrar’s office according to the set pattern.

1188 scanned copies of past papers in PDF format for undergraduate students are available on portal (http://portal.lums.edu.pk/sites/Library/Past%20Papers/Forms/AllItems.aspx)Library is maintaining hard copies of past papers on six subjects’ since 2000 to onward. Hard format Collection is available on circulation desk.
