activity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GX8kvgIatAc (Measuring Mass in Grams) Task Two: Measure mass in kg. Complete Maths Activity Sheet Two by writing the mass shown on each of the scales. Please watch this video for support before completing the activity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptaVY3-vRZM (Using a Scale – Kilograms)

The large intervals represent 1kg and the smaller intervals represent 100g. (There are 10 intervals between each 1kg, 1kg = 1000g. 1000g ÷ 10 = 100g.)

Task Three: Solve problems involving mass. Complete Maths Activity Sheet Three by reading the scales and answering each of the questions. Task Four: Add and subtract capacities. Complete Maths Activity Sheet Four by reading the scales and answering the questions.

1. Question 1A and 1B: You will need to use doubling. 2. Question 2A and 2B: You will need to work out the difference between the amount

shown on the scales and the total mass of the object (listed in the question). You should use subtraction to do this. (e.g. Chicken mass = 150g. Amount shown on scales = 130g. 150g – 130g = 20g. There needs to be 20g more chicken added to the scales.)

Question 3A and 3B: Read the scales carefully. Explain your reasoning. Task Five: Measure the mass of ingredients. Follow the recipe on Fairy Cakes Activity Sheet by measuring the correct mass of each of the ingredients. Then, follow the instructions to bake your own fairy cakes. Enjoy! J

Please do this with the support of an adult in your family.

Research Paschal Candle by viewing ‘Paschal Candle PowerPoint’ which can be found on the Year Three Curriculum Page. Read through http://www.catholictv.org/blog/catholic-classroom-the-paschal-candle Find out:

1. When is the Paschal Candle lit? 2. What does the flame represent? 3. Why are the Greek letters ‘alpha’ and ‘omega’ on

the candle? 4. Why is there a cross on the candle?

Design your own Paschal Candle using the template on R.E Activity Sheet. You should also cut and match the definitions to the correct part of the candle.

Answers: 1. The Paschal candle is lit

on Easter Sunday, during Baptisms and Funerals.

2. The flame reminds us of Christ’s presence.

3. The Greek letters ‘alpha’ and ‘omega’ show that God is the beginning and the end for Catholics.

4. The cross reminds us of Jesus’s sacrifice when he gave his life for us on the cross.

RESEARCH History: VE Day 75th Anniversary Watch the clip: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/48201749 Find out:

1. What does VE Day stand for? 2. Why is VE Day celebrated? 3. When is it celebrated? 4. Who announced the end of the war? 5. How did he make this announcement? 6. How did people celebrate the end the war?

Once you have completed this research, you could create your own Great British Bunting (VE Day Activity Sheet) and have a little party of you own! You could hang the bunting in your window to show you are celebrating! Please take photographs of your celebrations if you can and bring them to school with you when we return – I’d love to see the fun you and your family had celebrating! J

VE Day stands for Victory in Europe Day. It is celebrated on 8th May and marks the end of World War 2 when Winston Churchill announced that the war in Europe was over, following Germany’s surrender. This year marks 75 years since the end of the war. Useful links: How To Make Your Bunting: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/england/pdf/how_to_make_your_great_british_bunting_step_by_step.pdf Follow this step-by-step guide and use the template on VE Day Activity Sheet to create your Great British Bunting.

J Mrs Slevin and I are still missing you very much and cannot wait to see you when we are back in school.
