WEEK 10 – TERM 4 – 2017 Principal’s message 2017 has been a year full of success for our students, our staff and our community. Whilst we have measurements for academic success, it is difficult to measure the enormous improvement our children have made as citizens and quality people. Our children continue to amaze me with their talents, persistence and genuine care for others. BAPS children can compete successfully on any stage and I look forward to watching our success into the future. We would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the following teachers who will be moving on to new ventures in 2018: Miss Lisa Brookes, Deputy Principal Lake Munmorah Public School; Mrs Kate Galluzzo, Assistant Principal at Gwandalan Public School; and Mr Jamie Stephen; Sports Coordinator at The Entrance Public School. They have all contributed greatly to the success of our school over many years and we wish them the very best. As this is my last newsletter report for the year, I want to thank the BAPS community for making my year as your Principal a wonderful experience. I have been taken aback by the absolute and genuine support of our parent community. Our children will always have the best chance to reach their own personal level of excellence when the school and community work in harmony. I want to thank our talented and dedicated teachers for another amazing school year. I enjoy working with such an outstanding group of professional educators who make a difference every day. Please take the time to tell your children how precious and important they are. I would like to wish everyone a successful finish to the year and a wonderful Christmas enjoying time with family. Principal’s message

2017 has been a year full of success for our students, our staff and our community. Whilst we have measurements for academic success, it is difficult to measure the enormous improvement our children have made as citizens and quality people. Our children continue to amaze me with their talents, persistence and genuine care for others. Billy Cart Challenge

A big thank you to Tuggerah Bunnings, who have generously supported our

school with the materials necessary to build two billy carts, the first of which

has been completed.

The carts will be used for the basis of a special motivational program: “The

Billy Cart Challenge”, which targets a small group of students who struggle

to respond to more ‘mainstream’ incentives to improve behaviour and

increase engagement in the learning process. Successful students will build,

paint and then race the billy carts after

demonstrating that they have made a

significant and ongoing improvement in

the classroom and, or playground.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club has now finished for 2017.

We would like to send out a huge THANK YOU to Bateau Bay Bowling

Club, who proudly sponsored our Breakfast Club this year. We will

advise early in 2018 when Breakfast Club will start again and we

encourage our students to come in and enjoy some yummy toast,

fruit or Milo that will help get

the day off to a great start.

Our School Presentation Day was held on Monday 11th December 2017 at Brooke Avenue Public School. We congratulate all the children in our school who received recognition for their academic, creative, social and sporting achievements throughout the year.

We also congratulate recipients of the Class Awards, Achievement Awards, Library Awards, Sports Awards, Performing Arts Awards, Physical Education Awards, Library Awards, Year 6 Major Awards and a Year 6 College Award.

Our new School Leaders have been welcomed in and we look forward to watching you all grow as young ambassadors of our school in 2018. Thank you to our wonderful P and C for arranging the Christmas raffle and our performers who were once again fantastic! Have a happy and safe Christmas break. We look forward to welcoming you all back in 2018.

Leader’s Corner

Earlier this year, I became one of two Environmental Leaders for Brooke Avenue Public School. Throughout the year, we have held meetings during break time to make posters, vote about changes, practise primary assembly scripts and even just to chat. We have been invited to Leadership conferences as well, which answered any questions we had and even answers to things we would never think about asking. I have had an amazing seven years at Brooke Avenue and I believe becoming a leader, of any sort, is a great way to finish off primary school. - Sophia (Environmentalist 2017)

At the start of the year, I officially became a Student Wellbeing Minister. It has been the best year so far because I got to go to a bunch of special conferences and got to run the assemblies. - Seth (Student Wellbeing Minister 2017) This year, I became one of the school’s two Technology Leaders. It felt good being a leader and answering my peer’s questions. I really enjoyed it. - Marcus (Technology Leader 2017) This year, I have been one of the two Technology Leaders for Brooke Avenue Public School. I have really enjoyed being a leader at BAPS and my 7 years here have been the best. - Riley (Technology Leader 2017) When I was elected as School Captain for 2017, it was the best feeling ever! I love being School Captain because I get to do so much, like going to conferences (#yummyfood) and running major assemblies. - Lenny (School Captain 2017) This year, I got the amazing opportunity to be one of the Environmental Leaders for BAPS. I got to attend meetings, morning teas and much more. Being a leader was fun and this year has been one of the best! - Hayla (Environmentalist 2017)

Canteen News

Can You Spare 1 Day?

A new roster for 2018 is now being prepared. If you would like to volunteer for next year please

come and see me in the Canteen.

Volunteers are always welcome! Any amount of time is appreciated. The canteen is always in need

of extra pairs of hands to help produce a wide range of simple foods to a high standard for our

school community.

With your help, the canteen can produce more fresh food onsite and students can spend more of

their free time in the playground with friends.

Typically, you (and a friend) will only be required to do one shift 9-11:30am or 12.30-2:00pm once

every term. But we can also offer weekly and fortnightly shifts and you can choose how much time

you are able to spare, whether it’s half an hour for the morning rush or to serve the students at

break-time. The roster is never full, and a new volunteer may mean a new menu item can be

introduced.

Canteen will be closed on the last day of term, Friday 15th
