It has been incredibly busy for our staff as we continue our learning from home model whilst preparing for the Phase 1 return to school. It has also been great to connect with so many students in our class Zoom meetings throughout this week. Thank you to our families for your quick attention to providing permission for your children to use ZOOM within the Department guidelines. We have really appreciated your support during this uncertain time. Coming and going… During the next few weeks we will continue to only open the middle gate off the schooling crossing of a morning (kiss and drop style). We will have teachers on the gate to greet the children and to make sure the whole experience is a happy one. In the afternoon we will do a staggered release from the classes to the Heritage Garden area commencing with K and Year 1 at 3:20 moving to Stage 3 at 3:25. With respect to the continued expectation of social distancing we ask that you meet your children and move off the grounds quickly as you have been doing so well at the end of Term 1. Throughout the day, access to the school will be for students and staff only. In the Office area we ask that only one family enters at a time please. Once again we thank everyone in our school community for your positive feedback and continued support. We very much value and appreciate this as we continue to move forward in our planning. From next week… Thank you to all of our families who have worked with us to organise the Phase 1 return to school in Week 3. Our teachers have been in contact with you over the past week and we feel we have been able to organise the Phase 1 return to meet each families’ needs. We have appreciated your flexibility. In this initial phase, from Week 3, Monday 11 May, every student will have the opportunity to attend school one day a week. This will mean that we will have around 35% of students at school on any given day and this will allow us the opportunity to maintain social distancing for the students’ safety. Please note that students who are the children of essential workers are still able to attend school on days as required by work rosters. Our Canteen will open for ‘online orders’ only starting from Monday 11 May. Families will need to ensure that your child has their drink bottle and food for each day. Most of our teaching team will be on site from next Monday (we will still have a couple of staff working remotely) but where possible we hope to have the students in their own classroom with their teacher. In all classrooms students returning for their 1 allocated day each week will continue to engage in the same learning as the students ‘learning at home’. The Department of Education has requested one mode of learning, so please be assured that both students ‘learning at school’ and ‘learning at home’ will receive the same level of instruction and materials. Please also note that there will be many parents and carers who choose to keep their child or children at home until they are advised that students must return to school by authorities. The school understands this position. The Department of Education have announced that no family will be penalised for making this decision, provided that students continue to engage in their learning from home. As you will appreciate, planning for this scenario has been a complex and logistically difficult task to organise. Some teachers and staff are also working remotely as a part of maintaining high levels of hygiene such as social distancing, with several staff also considered to be in the vulnerable category if impacted by COVID-19. Please be assured that our focus at all times is the wellbeing and educational provision for all of our students and staff, and supporting our families and school community. We rely on your continued support to adjust our plans where necessary to accommodate the individual needs of everyone involved. We are here to help and happy for you to contact us.

Orders can be placed online as usual.

Orders are due by Monday 18 May 2020.

PUBLIC NOTICE - NAIDOC

The National NAIDOC Committee has decided that NAIDOC Week will be postponed, due to be celebrated from 5th to 12th July, 2020. The decision to postpone this national event was made in light of the current COVID-19 health crisis and ongoing uncertain times ahead for indigenous communities.

NAIDOC Week will most likely be held towards the end of the year and further information on this will be advised as it comes to hand. Eglinton Public school will organise our NAIDOC activities once a date has been confirmed.

NSW PREMIER’S SPORTING CHALLENGE

Dear Parents/Carers

This year our school has registered to participate in the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge.

The purpose of the Challenge is to encourage students to participate in sport and physical activity to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Over a ten week period Monday 11 May, Term 2, Week 3 – Friday 7 August Term 3, Week 3, our K-6 classes will be monitoring physical activity levels during class time, at recess and lunch as well as during sport lessons. Physical activity outside school hours will also count towards the Challenge award. The aim is to work towards an average at least 60 minutes of activity a day for ten weeks.

Our school will be working towards an individual student award at the conclusion of the Challenge.

We would like to invite families to support us in encouraging students’ healthy use of leisure time and to experience the joy of being active together.

Each student in years 3-6 will be issued with a logbook to record their daily physical activity. Whilst K-2 students will work towards a Gold class award level.

Physical activity is valued for its physical, social and emotional benefits. It also helps young people to develop communication skills, confidence and resilience.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of the Challenge, please contact Mrs Cluff who will be pleased to talk further with you.

Yours sincerely,

Cheryl Cluff
