Dear Parents and Carers What a fantastic concert! It just keeps on getting better. Well done to the students who have practised tirelessly and were the stars on the night, the teachers for their creativity, patience and passion (special thanks to Peter Hanlon and Tracey Hicks) and the parents and families who organised costumes, painted faces and were great supporters on the night. Thanks also to those who stayed behind at the end of the evening and assisted with packing up, your help was greatly appreciated.
Home Reading has finished for the year and I appeal to families to have one final search for books that need to make their way back to school. Approximately fifty books are still missing.
The choir performed on Wednesday at Ilumba Gardens and were very well received. One of the seniors explained to the students that she attended Eglinton Public School many years ago and was one of just five pupils at the time. A member of the nursing staff commented that it was the first time many of the seniors had smiled in a long time. I congratulate the choir on their service to the community.
Thank you for your ongoing support this year, enjoy a restful holiday.
Best wishes
Meleesa Smith
Relieving Principal.

Bags of Hope
Thousands of Cambodian children go to school everyday without a bag in which to carry their most basic necessities (books, stationary, food and—vitally important– bottled drinking water to help them avoid dysentery from unsafe drinking water).
Students who would like to donate their old school backpacks and bags at the end of the year can leave at the front office for collection during the last week of term.
The bags will be collected and packed with books and stationary before being shipped to Cambodia for distribution to needy students for the commencement of their school year in March.

SCHOOL CAPTAIN ELECTION
FOR 2011
8.12.10
Today we had our election for the 2011 School Captains in the year 6 classrooms. Each person was asked what their name was, what class they were in and if they had voted in this election before. Once they had been asked these questions they went to a voting booth and voted for three people that they would like to see lead the school. After students voted they would put their ballot papers into the ballot boxes. People cannot vote more than once. The candidates running for this job were: Girls: Grace Finlayson, Bethany Osborne, Mikala Grabham, Mikaela Graham, Brenna Nichols, Eve Curry, Lillian Stocks Breanna Davey, Skye Carpenter. Boys: Nick Johnson, Henry Marson, Harry Brown, Jakob Wells, Jacob Zammit, Ronan Vanderhel, Greg Chapman, Mathew McCauley. The election went really well and the new captains will do a great job of leading the school.

Captain Election
2011. 8.12.10
On the 8th of December 2010 the school
went to the year six classes to vote for
candidates they would like to take the
role of being school captain and school
vice captain for 2011
The girls running for the job were:
Grace Finlayson, Bethany Osborne,
Mikala Grabham, Mikaela Graham,
Natalie Davis, Eve Curry, Brenna
Nichols, Lillian Stocks, Breanna Davey
and Skye Carpenter.
And the boys:
Nick Johnson, Henry Marson, Harry
Brown, Jakob Wells, Jacob Zammit,
Ronan Vanderhel, Greg Chapman,
Mathew McCauley.
To vote each person must follow a
simple set of rules.
#1 it must be a formal vote so you
cannot put your name on the ballot
paper or any other name. #2 you are not
allowed to vote twice. #3 you must be
an Australian citizen or in this case an
Eglinton Public School student.
Students then go to the voting booths
and vote for the person(s) that they
believe will make this school a better
place. The students will then go over to
where the guards with machine guns
stand , (ha ha) and put their ballot
papers into the ballot boxes.
Whoever receives the task will do a
wonderful job in 2011.
