How many vowels and consonants does your name have in it?
Parent Information• Consonants are sounds made by blocking air from flowing out of the mouth with
the teeth, tongue, lips or palate ('b' is made by putting your lips together, 'l' is made by touching your palate with your tongue).
• Vowel sounds are made by allowing breath to flow out without closing any parts. • ‘Y‘ can make either a consonant sound at the start of a word ('yellow') or a vowel
sound at the end of a word ('sunny‘).

Read the ‘CVCC’ words and choose the picture to match
Parent Information• A ‘consonant cluster’ is two or three consonants with no vowels
between them (e.g. two in ‘trap’ or three in 'splash‘).• It is different from a digraph/trigraph because their letters only
make one sound (e.g. ‘sh’ or ‘igh’). • In a consonant cluster, the letter sounds are pronounced in one
syllable but you can hear each one individually.
