From the Principal’s Desk
Welcome Back! I hope everyone managed to have some
quality time with family and friends over the holiday
period. Our students and staff are all refreshed and
rejuvenated, and ready for a busy Term 4. There is a lot on
our planner for the term and before we know it the next
holidays will be here again.
Rottnest Camp
Next week many of our Year 6 students will be attending a camp at Rottnest. A lot of planning and preparation has gone into the camp during the year, and the excitement is at an all-time high. In particular, the students have been learning Bike Education to enable them to ride safely and maintain their bikes whilst they are on the island. We wish them all a great week of activities, and look forward to hearing about their adventures when they return.
Uniforms
Thank you to all families who consistently send their children to school in our
uniform. It is lovely walking around seeing our students proudly wearing the APS
colours.
However, there are a few students not
wearing the correct uniform. Please see our
lovely ladies in the uniform shop or go
through our school website to order online
if you need to.
Now is a great time to be prepared before
the Term 1 beginning of the year rush.

Attendance
I’m sure I don’t need to remind parents and caregivers about the importance of regular attendance at school, and the
strong link between regular attendance and positive outcomes across all academic and social/emotional areas of a
child’s development.
As with many schools, attendance is a priority at Albany Primary School. We have revised our Attendance Policy and
Procedures as a part of this. One strategy we are using is to send a letter home should there be any unexplained
absences for your child. Please complete this letter and return it to us, as it is important that we know why students
have been absent.
Absences include family holidays or vacations taken during term time. This is not supported by the Department of
Education and we encourage holidays to be taken during a school holiday break. Absences for holidays will be included
in your child’s attendance percentage on their reports.

Board Bits Term 4 is upon us and as we all know it will be Christmas before too long! The Board has two meetings planned for this term, where we will continue to review the key targets of the business plan and consult with the Principal as we move forward into 2020.
One of our very valued members Julie Brooks will be
leaving the Board as a parent member, as her last child
will be finishing up at Albany Primary School (APS) at the
end of this year. Julie’s position will therefore become
vacant as at the end of 2019, and soon we will be calling
for nominations for the remainder of her tenure. Please
consider nominating yourself as a parent member.
More details will follow later this term however feel free
to contact Cathy Willis (Principal) or myself if you would
like any more information.
This term the Board members will be telling you a bit
more about who we are and what we see as being our
role on the Board. We hope this helps you to recognise
us whilst we are out and about in the school community,
so that you can ask us any questions you might have.
This week we will introduce Julie Brooks and myself
Caroline Cameron.
Caroline Cameron - In Term 1 of this year I
was elected Chair of the newly formed
School Board. The year so far has brought
its challenges and changes with the
resignation of Jayde Hewson and the
election of Cathy Willis. In the interim the
Board was under the guidance of Reece Smith. My role
as the Chair has enabled me to work very closely with
these three different leaders. The Board meetings have
seen a clear focus on the key business plan targets and
allowed a forum for two-way communication between
the Principal and Board members. This has enabled a
wide range of opinions to be brought to the table and
feedback given. I have enjoyed hearing what the
community has to offer and then feeding this back to
both the Principal and Board. I hope that I will continue
to be a ‘voice’ for the wider community. My role has
taught me so much about the ‘behind the scenes’ of our
school and its community and I hope that in the
remainder of my tenure I will continue to serve APS and
the community to the best of my ability. I would love to
hear what you have to say so if you have any ideas,
concerns, or feedback please feel free to stop and have
a chat at school, and I will happily feed these back to the
Board and the Principal as required.
I have been fortunate enough with my 4 children, to
have been part of the APS community for 13 years. In
this time, I have been involved in many school events
and held various roles on the P&C. I am a passionate
and energetic person and believe in achieving the best
possible outcome of all students.
Julie Brooks - In 2018, I decided to run
for the School Board and thanks to
the school community (you) I was
lucky enough to be elected. I made
the decision to apply because I have
an interest in governance, wanted a
new challenge and think it’s
important for the wider school community to have a
voice. I have enjoyed the challenges and knowledge I
have gained from being part of the APS School Board.
As this is my last term, I strongly encourage anyone
who’s interested in joining the board to speak to a board
member, formal qualifications are not required.
The next School Board Meeting is at 7pm on 4
November.
IMSS Primary School Music Tour On Friday 18 October The Combined Primary Schools String Ensemble will perform at three
local primary schools. These performances will provide the students with an opportunity to
display the musical pieces they have been working on this year, as well as promote the IMSS
program. Good luck to all students participating in the tour.
Albany Show Day Remember that Friday 8 November is Show Day, and
will be a Pupil Free Day at Albany Primary School.
Please plan accordingly.
