From the Administration

Dear Parents,

Last Friday was Grandparents and Special Friends Day and, according to the feedback we have received, our special gueststhoroughly enjoyed the event. We had 355 people visit the schoolfrom 259 families. I cannot praise the CASPA volunteers and ourfaculty and staff enough for helping make this day such a success!

As you may remember, the prior week we held the Cardinal Cup,which had 800 participants and over 60 volunteers. The eventraised more money for Mother Seton Academy than in any previousyear! A special thank you to Mrs. Mattieni and Mrs. Lineberger fortheir leadership in making the Cardinal Cup one of the specialevents of the year. What was special about the Cardinal Cup thisyear is that it was held, for the first time, the week after theCathedral Ball and we believe this is why we had an increase inparticipation compared to previous years.

Speaking of the Cathedral Ball... we are starting to finalize somedata from the results of the Ball. 250 people attended the ball whichwas supported by 12 local vendors which resulted in reducedcosts. 76% of the silent auction was bid upon in the last 12 minutes.Event setup took 6 hours with a volunteer crew of 8 people! Itappears that over $45,000 was raised, after expenses, for theteacher professional development fund and additional iPads for theLower School and at a reduced ticket price of ten dollars. This, ofcourse, does not include the additional monies raised from the"Name the Gym Foyer" auction. The results of that auction item arestill being collected. We are very thankful for all of the parentvolunteers and especially Mrs. RussellWood for her vision andleadership in making the Ball a success. We are also grateful for allof those who have donated to the foyer fund as we begin phaseone of the foyer redesign. Mrs. Muldowney and Mrs. Rose arehelping with the interior design in phase one and we are gratefulfor their service and talents.

A reminder that we will hold our May Crowning at the start oftomorrow's school liturgy. Also, Friday we will have Field Day in themorning (weather permitting), followed by Student Councilspeeches and elections in the afternoon. Unfortunately, there is notime available in our schedule for a makeup day for Field Day.Friday evening, Youth Ministry is holding a Middle School Mixer aspart of its Spring Spirit event. On this night there will also be a "KidsNight Out" for grades K5 and a high school movie night. Click hereto register. We are in need of chaperones, so please contactSiobhan Cooney, if you are able to volunteer.

Middle School Update

Today's Faith in Focus Leadership will be detailed in next week's bulletin.

This week's bulletin features advice for exam week from Cathedral's middleschool team. Make sure you eat a full meal for breakfast! Not only will you feel better the morningof your exam, but research shows that students achieve higher levels of performancewhen they eat a full breakfast. If you don't know the answer to a question, circle the question, skip it, and returnto it later. There's a good chance that answering other exam questions will trigger yourmemory.Every day we pray "Come, Holy Spirit, enlighten our minds" before class. Myadvice would be "Do your best to study using the review materials provided. When youare about to begin each exam, pray, "Come, Holy Spirit, enlighten my mind." Read directions carefully!Get a good night's rest.

Be especially careful to not forget them at school on Thursday, May 12th.This will ensure that you have your materials over the weekend of May 1315.Begin studying as early as possible!Ask for help as early as possible.Make a study plan with builtin breaks.Quiz yourself in the way most similar to the format of the test. Good luck and happy studying!!

Msgr. Woy's Weekly Message Dear Friends, I am not sure where to begin this Sunday's letter since there is so much going on! So, Iwill play it safe and begin by wishing all the mothers, grandmothers, greatgrandmothers, and godmothers a very HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

As important as moms are, the really big event thisweekend was the First Holy Communion of 82 ofour young parishioners. What a wonderfulexperience this was for the children, their families, and even their priests. You will find a list of the firstcommunicants in Sunday's bulletin. I can stillremember my First Communion Day May 8, 1960! Sunday was Ascension Sunday, which meansnext week is Pentecost Sunday and theconclusion of the Easter Season. Archbishop Lori will celebrate Mass at 3:00 pm andadminister the Sacrament of Confirmation. Normally, this Archdiocesanwide celebrationfills the Cathedral. Of course, everyone is welcome to this grand event. Wear RED nextSunday when you come to Mass. We have been working with a sound engineer to define ways to improve the quality ofthe acoustics in the Cathedral. The proposal presently has four phases: Step #1 repairand/or replace several microphone jacks and connectors and reequalize the speakersystem ($2,400); Step #2 new microphones (pulpit, altar, cantor, contemporary group, wireless mics for priests; ($3,000); Step #3 Install and integrate digital mixers into ourBose speakers. This would allow for realtime wireless management of mics during Massand services ($22,000); Step #4 new digital amplifiers. Our amplifiers range in age from8 to 15 years ($19,000). Step #4 is a bit of "icing on the cake" in that our amps have notall reached the end of their life expectancy. But we need to keep our eye on them. We willaccomplish these projects as funding becomes available, but at least we have a roadmap forward. Last week, we concluded the Sunday School of Religion for this year. I cannot thankenough those individuals who have selflessly served as catechists in our program. Besure to thank our catechists for their years of service: Molly Carmody (24); Mary AnnSurine (23); Ed Weber (17); Patricia Harrison (16); Lori Brooks (16); Ted Murphy (15);Jennifer Myers (13); Gary McCormack (13); William Macsherry (10); Karen Taylor (8);Yvonne Alcuizar (7); Louise Marmion (4); Franc Udenta (4); Jessica Harding (4); JoeButtarazzi (4); Donna Shavers (3); Henryka Craig (3); Jay Brooks (3); Denise Sanoy(2); Catherine Sanoy (2); Victoria Marando (2); Steven Schmitt (1); Melinda McCue(1); Lauren Hartsky (1); Theresa Bassett (1); Maria Garlitz (1); Megan Latshaw (1);Evelyn Sanchez (1); Laura Kimberly (1) and Selena Sanchez (1).THANK YOU! I'll be looking at last month's survey results with the pastoral council this week inpreparation for the Parish Town Hall Meeting (May 22nd after the 11:00 am Mass). I'll besure to share highlights of the survey with you in my letter next Sunday. Don't forget the "Spring Spirit Event" sponsored by our Youth Ministry on May13th (Friday).
