FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

As unbelievable as it sounds we enter a New Year again. I wish all of you a blessed New year, we as the faithful people of God. I wish to thank all of you for your Christmas cards and “goodies”. Now, I must make a New Year resolution again to lose twenty pounds – ugh! No more macaroni and meatballs for a while? Seriously though, I am reminded of my daily prayer…

Happy Healthy New Year to Everyone

I have an important message. On Tuesday January 9, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the lower hall. The Regional Bishop of the North Region, Bishop Mark O’Connell will address our parish in regard to the future of our parish. If you have any concerns about what this means for St. Anthony’s Parish, please make sure you attend this meeting.

Housekeeping

Please it would be greatly appreciated if you could help us to keep our Church as well as the restrooms clean. We don’t have a facility manager who works on Saturday or Sunday. Thank you for all you do.

BASIC CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY

We have started a new program, namely “Basic Christian Community” (BCC) in our Parish. Basic Christian Community is the life style of early Christians. Few families gather at a home and they pray and reflect over the Word of God. It will enrich our lives and provide a good

10 New Year Resolution This Year

Practice gratitude – Cultivating a grateful heart is the hallmark of a Christian steward. Every day, express thankfulness to the Lord and to others. Seeing the good in your life will allow you to keep your heart compassionate and loving.

Encounter the Lord each day – Find time to be with the Lord each day, whether it be for an hour or ten minutes. Have a conversation with the Lord. Give your joys and worries to Him as well. Allow God's love to transform them. Our encounters will keep our eyes and ears open to the presence of Christ in our midst.

Be present to others – There is much celebration and mourning, joy and sorrow in peoples' lives. What a blessing it is to be able to share those times and not let others experience them alone. The gift of your presence to others is much more valuable than you realize.

Resist overwork – There is a pressure to produce, meet goals, be successful. But activities that lead us to overwork, constant fatigue and worry do not give glory to God. What God calls us to do we can do well. Be mindful that life requires balance, down time and letting go of unrealistic goals.

Nurture friendships – Our friends are those we choose to be with, those with whom we spend our evenings, with whom we vacation, to whom we go to for advice. Friends are gifts from God who give us a greater appreciation of God's love for us. Friends need our time and love.

Give more – Good stewards realize that everything they have is entrusted to them as gift to be shared. There is no better place to begin than sharing with the community that gathers around the Lord's table at Mass. Consider what you are giving to your parish and local diocese and commit to an even greater contribution as circumstances allow.

Make a difference in your parish community – Believe it or not, your parish community can use your talents. Offering your talents to your faith community is one of the most effective ways to feel useful and connected to others, and it is a potentially life-changing New Year's resolution.

Consider living more simply – We cannot find fulfillment in possessions. They add nothing to our self-worth. Jesus blessed the "poor in spirit" in his Sermon on the Mount; and Saint Francis of Assisi urged us to live with only what was necessary, for that is how we begin to find God.

Get healthy – Studies show that most people in North America are accelerating their own decline into premature old age, owing to poor diet and lack of physical activity. Be a good steward of your body. Plan a complete overhaul of your diet and exercise habits.

Don't give up – People give up their New Year's

Mary: Full of Faith

We always consider new year a sign of hope and new beginning. I wish each of you Happy and Prosperous new year.

On the first day of year, Mother Church invites us to begin this new year with Mother Mary. Today we celebrate the solemnity of Mother of God. St. Augustine says “Blessed are you, Mary, for you gave the Son of God to our world. But even more blessed are you for having believed in him. Full of faith, you conceived Jesus first in your heart and then in your womb, and thus became the mother of all believers.” Mary is full of faith. In the gospel of Luke Mary said to the angel, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” (Lk.1:38)

Her total surrendering to God helps her live according to the will of God amidst problems and difficulties throughout her life. On the first day of New Year the Church gives her as a model for us to surrender to God like Mother Mary without any reservations.

On this new year let us think of our own faith in God.

Is my faith deeply rooted in God like Mother Mary’s faith?

What is attitude towards God when I face difficulties and problems?

Do I Place anything of this world in the place of God?

Do I give more importance to any person than God?

What is the stumbling block to surrender myself to God totally or unconditionally?

Let us find answer to the following questions to sharpen our faith in God.

Prayer: Loving God, I thank you for all

What is a Holy Hour ?

A devotional exercise helping us to keep the Eucharist at the center of our lives

A Holy Hour consists of mental and vocal prayer with expostion of the Blessed Sacrament. It draws inspiration from Christ’s words to the apostles in Gethsemane “Can you watch not one hour with me?” and was taught by Our lord to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1673. A Holy Hour unites us with the Blessed Sacrament present in all tabernacles of the world. It unites our sufferings with jesus crucified, allowing us to atone for the sins of Humanity.

The 2018 Holy Hour for Life will unite the Archdiocese of Boston in prayer for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion, for a full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and for support for those wounded by abortion. It will afford us a unique opportunity to show our devotion to Jesus in a very personal way “Remain here and keep watch with me” while prayeing for an end to abortion.

Our Holy Hour For life will be on Tuesday January 23, 2018 at 7:00 PM.
