JOB POSITION: Horace Mann Faculty: Kindergarten DEPARTMENT: Horace Mann Laboratory School REPORTS TO: Horace Mann Principal CLASSIFICATION: Faculty FLSA STATUS: Exempt EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full-time position PRIMARY DUTY: The Northwest Missouri State University School of Education is seeking applications for a full-time kindergarten instructor at Horace Mann Laboratory School for the upcoming 2021- 2022 school year. The successful candidate will serve as an instructor and educational leader at a kindergarten through sixth grade laboratory school where commitment to curriculum development, educational leadership, research, and child-centered teaching practices are valued. The instructor will provide elementary students with exemplary instruction within a laboratory school setting modeling culturally sensitive teaching practices within a social justice framework. The instructor will work collaboratively with University faculty to facilitate and evaluate practicum students through the modeling of effective teaching practices and opportunities to engage in superior clinical experiences. The instructor is responsible for promoting high expectations for students, communicating effectively with parents, developing curriculum, and working collaboratively with the both Horace Mann and School of Education faculty and staff. The position includes supervision and evaluation of student employees, practicum students, and implementation of state and national standards into the curriculum. The instructor must demonstrate an appreciation and promotion of diversity as a commitment to the School of Education and Northwest Missouri State University. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Exhibit strong skills in educational technology, research, and collaboration8. Create curriculum and lesson plans in all curricula areas9. Demonstrate a growth mindset, initiative, and actively collaborate in research of innovative

practices10. Model a nurturing disposition with an excellent ability to communicate effectively with young

children11. Support University and School initiative related to diversity, equity, and inclusion12. Assist with university and program accreditation (AAQEP, HLC, CAEP, DESE, and/or other)

REQUIREMENTS:Education: Master’s degree in Education Certification/License: Missouri Elementary Teaching Certification (or ability to attain

certification) Experience: One year of experience of post-master’s degree teaching in an elementary settingSkills: Integration of technology and online course management system in teaching; strong

communication skills; collaboration skills; ability to work well with others toward common goals; strong organizational skills

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL: Willing to acquire and participate in international study away trip for faculty and students.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Collaborative team-based academic environment in a university-based laboratory school.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Will supervise observation students, practicum students, and student workers

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Interactive SMART Board, iPads, laptop computers, document cameras, etc.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Actively instructing elementary students from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the regular school year (January – May). Instruction of Practicum students may occur from 3:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Participation in after school committees and faculty meetings as assigned. Ability to complete essential classroom functions and lift up to 20 pounds.
