A Word From Teacher

Good morning boys and girls,

I hope are you all doing well? I hope everything went well for everyone last week. I know how strange it must feel for you all to be doing your school- work from home, but you are doing brilliantly. Keep up the good work. Do what you can and don’t worry about anything that is too tricky.

It has made my week talking to so many of you on the phone this week and for anyone I’ve missed I hope to catch you soon. There was so much news. And it made me smile.

Playing in the garden Walks to the beach and on scenic country roads Football in the garden Goats named Dave! Fun with dogs and pets Planting and greenhouses Painting silk scarves Journals of daily adventures Jumping on the trampoline Tricks on the trampoline Cycling Video chats with friends Birthday celebrations Playing on go – karts

I wonder can you spot your news above?!

Parents, continued well done and thanks to you all. I will continue to stress each week that none of this is compulsory. Don’t put yourself under unnecessary pressure if it feels like too much. You can pick and choose or maybe keep your emphasis on Maths, English and Irish. Whatever works for you is the right way. Remember to contact the school at [email protected] if you need further assistance with any of the work.

Some more things to remember for this week:

We begin our new class reader this week ‘The St. Patrick’s Day Jumper’. I have provided screenshots of the pages, but for anyone printing this pack it is also available as an ebook on CJ Fallon’s website, so no need to print those pages.

Ms. Lynch has included a fun Kahoot! Quiz on the English Support tab on the school website to revise Dolch lists 1-5. Well worth a play!

I have attached the spelling sheet for this week. Use it in the same way as normal. P.E. continues to be part of each day’s timetable. Go to the Active School tab on the

website for lots of fun activities. Getting active each day is very important. Our Mental Maths Warm- Up for this week is on https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-

games/daily10 Your child can select ‘manual’ option or a time- limit option for an extra challenge.

The children have their Mental Maths book home with them. Feel free to work through this each week in place of an online maths warm- up.

You will need to access Abair Liom resources this week again on https://www.folensonline.ie/registration/

It is a bank holiday on Monday of this week, but I have provided a list of activities if you would like to keep a structure to the week.

The closing date for entries for ‘We are Writers’ task is May 29th . You might like to put this task in, in place of a different lesson one of the days.

I hope all of your tasks go well for you this week. The answer sheet is available now on the website for anyone who wishes to correct work on a daily basis.

Ms. Keegan

Tuesday May 5th Science

TOPIC: FORCES

Design and make task ( Optional of course!)

Wind creates a force and power that can move things by pushing.

We saw last week that we can move a kite can move through the air with the force of wind pushing it.

This week we are going to make a ‘sail- car’ or ‘land- yacht’ can can move with the force of wind. You can use a fan or just a windy day to test out your design.

Experiment with different materials for the sail to see which catches the wind best.

Have fun and enjoy!

Wednesday May 6th Geography

Topic: Water in our local environment

Last week we studied the River Boyne and we learned how important rivers are for sports and for biodiversity. You learned new facts about otters that live in our rivers in Ireland.

Today, I want you to think about how we can protect all of the animals, plants and insects that rely on our waterways in Ireland.

Activity 1: Let’s remind ourselves about the importance of Biodiversity with this very short video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErATB1aMiSU

Activity 2: Now we know how important it is to look after all of our species of insects, plants and animals in our environment, let’s think about how we can protect the animals, plants and insects in our waterways.

What do you think is the biggest threat to living things in our rivers? That’s right- pollution.

Today I want you to think of the different ways that our rivers can become polluted(dirty).

Try a brainstorm below by drawing or writing what you think. Afterwards watch the video to see how you did.
