CELEBRANT: REV. OGHENERO EMMANUEL.THEME: THE WIFE OF NOBLE CHARACTER.
LENT FOUR. 1. Opening Hymn - CH. 241 (Tune: St. Leonard)2. Introductory Sentence: A Wife of Noble Character who
can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Prov. 31:10.
3. Preparation To The Collects (Pages 1-8)4. Collect:
Almighty Father, Whose Son was revealed in majesty before He suffered death upon the cross; give us faith to
perceive His glory, that we may be strengthened to suffer with Him and be changed into His likeness, from glory to glory, Who is alive and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, now and for ever. Amen.
God of compassion, Whose Son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary, shared the life of a home in Nazareth, and on the
cross drew the whole human family to himself: strengthen us in our daily living that in joy and in sorrow we may know the power of Your presence to bind together and to heal; through Jesus Christ Your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with You, in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, now and forever. Amen.
Almighty and merciful God, You hate nothing that You have made and forgive the sins of all those who are penitent. Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, we may receive from You, the God of all mercy, perfect forgiveness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

SUB THEME 4: POLITICS AND CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP.TOPIC: Christians in Politics: The Basics for Success.TEXT: Joshua 1:1-8.
AIMS: Toi. understand “the basics for success,” especially in politics, as it
relates to Christian Discipleship; ii. know the details of the basics for success in politics;iii. see how to acquire the basics for success;iv. find some key scriptural principles for effectiveness and
successin politics/governance.
INTRODUCTION:The call for many Christians to enter active politics is high and seems to some persons to be the panacea for the decadence, corruption, poverty, squalor and frustration prevalent in Nigeria. But because the few Christians who have ventured into politics have not given a good positive and satisfactory account of their stewardship, it is advised in this study, that Christians, who will go into active politics, should have the basics for success. These might help them to achieve the much desired-success/relief and possibly encourage more Christians to step into active politics.
STUDY GUIDE 1a. what do you understand by “basics for success,” especially in
politics, and as it relates to Christians?b. List and discuss some basics necessary for success in politics
in Nigeria today. Jos.1:1-8; 2 Sam 23:3.2. What are some biblical basics for success/governance, in the
text? (take note of verses 1-2. 3-4, 5, 6, 7 and 8); 1 Tim.6:6-113. Identify and discuss other basic Biblical principles which
Christians should imbibe and apply if they are to achieve successin that political endeavor? 1 Cor.9:27 (Col.3:5), 15:33; 1Tim.6:6-11; Phil.3:7.
4. In the light of the above, why do you think so many Christiansstruggle, and in some cases emerge from politics wounded andor soiled or even ruined?
CONCLUSION:The fundamentals of discipline in human life must be known, understood and mastered for any who wants to succeed. Politics is no exception. Christians must strive to have these basics and cling to them in their political career. These are for those who choose to take up politics as a career.
FOOD 0 FOR THOUGHT: Fundamentals are foundations for success;grab them fast!

THE CHRISTIAN HOME“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband as it is fit for the Lord. Husbands love your wives and not bitter against them. Children, obey your parents in all things, for this well pleasing unto Lord. Fathers provoke not your children to anger left they be discouraged.” Col. 3:18-21.
“Charity” they say “begins at home.” Many workers in the Church have won battles out there, but lost woefully at the home front. John G. Lake is an example, in his book, God’s Generals Roberts Liarden writes on John Lake (1870-1935) as a man of healing. However, Lake was so absorbed in ministering to others, that he was not aware of what was happening to his wife and children (who all died sick and lonely). Lake was later to grieve over his lack of attention to his family in these words “the many miracles wrought at my hands were personally, unfailing and not worth the loss of my family.”
Paul in his writing to the Colossian Christians, was mindful of family values, save the advice to all Christian family. Christian man what is your home like? Are you living up to your bidding as the head of the family? (Eph. 5:23).
Christian women, are you submitting to your own husband, as fitting in the Lord? Parents do you allow your children to be involved in activities? Are you teaching them in the things of God; how to pray, study the word of God and evangelize. Do you all sit together at the family altars to worship God? If you are lacking in any, seek God’s help.
Peter in his letter, encourages the brethren in view of the hope ahead, to be strong in faith; be patient and rejoice in their suffering. Believers are created to be beautiful in appearance, conversation and lifestyle no matter the circumstances they find themselves. Reminding them of their identity in God; he offered various practical ways they can conduct themselves. To this end therefore he dedicated 1 Peter 3:1-7 to how Christian family should be.
For a Wife, he advices. Submission and obedience to he husband Obedience to the word of God Having a chaste conversation (in conduct,
appearance, speech and character) Inner beauty rather than outward
adornment. Trust God (especially in difficult times) Faithful to the Husband
The Husband must
Have knowledge of the wife (understand and provide her physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs)
Honour her within and outside the home Deal with her in consideration that she is
a weaker vessel.
The above when practiced, will silence the waging and slanderous mouth of the unbelievers, build up trust and confidence in our homes and the faith we profess, and ultimately win the same unbelievers to the faith.
Brethren as we celebrate this year Mothering Sunday let us pray to God Almighty to give us Christian homes. Homes where the Bible is loved and
taught Homes where the master’s will is sought Homes crowned with beauty, your love
has wrought. Homes where the father is true and strong Homes that are free from the blight of
wrong Homes where the mother, in caring guest,
strives to show others your way is best. Homes where the Lord is an honoured
guest Home where the children are taught and
led to know Christ Homes where the altar fires burn and
glow.
It is our prayer that God Almighty will teach us to live as you want us to, no matter the circumstance to win souls for you; build
our homes through your word in submission to your word in Jesus name. CHURCH OFFICERS / CLERGY
