+Call to Worship Mark Christopher
Here in this place, there are no foreigners, for all are welcome in God’s house. Here in this place, we are “round-table people.” Welcoming all, loving all, we worship God together.
Here in this place, there is no rejection, for love is the language of faith. Here in this place we are “round-table people.” Learning together, praying together, we follow Christ who calls us to service and love.
Here in this place, there is no need to hide our light, for the gifts of community are celebrated and shared. Here in this place, we are “round-table people.” Turning to face the world, we open our lives to the Spirit, who makes us one.

+Hymn Live Into Hope Truro
Live into hope of captives freed,Of sight regained, the end of greed.
The oppressed shall be the first to seeThe year of God’s own jubilee!
Live into hope! The blind shall see With insight and with clarity;
Removing shades of pride and fear,A vision of our God brought near.
Live into hope of liberty,The right to speak, the right to be,
The right to have one’s daily bread,To hear God’s world and thus be fed.
Live into hope of captives freedFrom chains of fear or want or greed.
God now proclaims our full releaseTo faith and hope and joy and peace.
Prayer of Confession Rev. Judy Zabel
God of Grace, we confess that these days, harsh words and cold hearts have become our calling card. We forget to spread hope, because we listen to the purveyors of fear. We cannot remember to be loving because our role models are ridicule and anger. We neglect to be faithful, because false promises of grandeur entice us to embrace power and arrogance. And our world suffers.
Have mercy on us, God of kindness. Grant us the forgiveness that rekindles faith, creates healing, and restores compassion. In this winter season, we ask you to warm our hearts, so our words and lives might reflect the way of Christ.

Words of Assurance
Psalter Psalm 146 (NIV) Mark Christopher
Praise the Lord.Praise the Lord, my soul.I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.

Tenacious Solidarity
Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God.God is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them--God remains faithful forever.
God upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free, The Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but God frustrates the ways of the wicked. The Lord reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations.Praise the Lord.

For this we pray:in every place
a spark of graceto light the way.a spark of graceto light the way.
Wisdom for all who bearthe future in their hand, entrusted with the careof this and every land. When comes the hour,
O Lord, we pray, inspire the way
we spend our power.inspire the way

Ease for the troubled mindin endless conflict caught, each soul that cannot find
the peace beyond all thought.May they be blessed
with healing balmfor inner calm
and perfect rest.for inner calm
and perfect rest.
Love for the human heart:when hate grows
from our fearsand inwardly we start
to turn our ploughs to spears.
Help us to sowlove’s precious seed
in word and deed, that peace may grow.

We Take the Word Into the World
The Acolytes lead us in carrying the light of Christ into the world.
+Hymn The Children Come Finlandia
The children come, not sure where they are going; Some little ones have seen their siblings die.
They’ve traveled north—a tide that keeps on growing,A stream of life beneath the desert sky.
Their welcome here? Detention, overflowing.O Lord of love, now hear your children’s cry!
The children come in search of something better; They’ve traveled here with nothing in their hands.
On one boy’s belt, a number carved in leatherLeads to a phone, a brother here, a plan.
They come alone—or sometimes band together; They bring a plea that we will understand.
O Christ our Lord, you welcomed in the stranger; You blessed the children, telling them to stay.
Be in the desert, with the tired and injured;Be at the border where they are afraid.
Be on each bus where children sense the danger,As angry crowds are shouting, “Go away!”
God, let each one know justice, peace and welcome—And may your gift of mercy start with me.
For unto such as these belongs your kingdom,And in each child, it is your face we see.
May we, your church, respond in truth and action,And with you, Lord, say, “Let them come to me.”
