Budget Cuts

• Empty positions

• Student services strained– Admissions, testing, counseling & financial aid

• Firm Financial Aid deadlines – June 15th

Enrollment boom at CCS

• CCS opens doors even wider– Competition for limited resources

– Your students need good information more than ever

CCS Outreach targets the “Middle 50%”

Page 13: Wchscr counselor workshop fall 2009 final

The Middle 50% tends to…

• …be low income & first generation• …be disproportionally students of color• …lack parental support (few helicopter

parents)• …lack fundamental college info (FAFSA,

deadlines, college-going vocabulary)• …underutilize “Opt-In” post-HS resources– Career centers, college fairs, parent nights,

lunchroom tables, etc.

Page 14: Wchscr counselor workshop fall 2009 final

Accessing the Middle 50%

• Classroom presentations: multiple, sequential, full-period– ‘Captive Audience’ not ‘Opt-In’

–Math 12, English 12, CWI, Senior Project, CTE

– Not AP classes

• How you can help: – Give me a teacher’s name
