Renaissance Dance Dec. 18
With Baroness Stjarna
We had a great time in November, and in December, Her Excellency will again be teaching Renaissance Dance through Richland Parks and Rec. Join us on Wednesday, December 18th. There is a $3 drop-in fee. This will be a trial run for this class, to see if there is enough interest. If we don't have the numbers, the Rec department won’t continue to schedule it. So join us on Wednesday night , from 7pm to 8pm. If you are interested, please post on the Facebook page or email Her Excellency so she will have an idea of numbers. This will not be in costume and we may be joined by non SCA folks who are interested in Renaissance Dance. Spread the word!
This activity is sponsored by the City of Richland, and is not an official SCA activity.

Minutes of Wastekeep Baronial Council
November 14, 2013
Attendance: Ulrik, Meghan, Catriona, Stjarna, Styrkarr, Ysabella, Rowland, Rowena, Rashida, Arianwen,
Marcia, Tanya, Biggy, Thorkell, Gudrun, Inguz, Weezil, Steinbjorn, Annabelle, Audra, Svana, Phillip,
Approval of minutes for the October meeting: Minutes were approved as written.
Old Business:
Baron's: Profit amended from original report because our actual attendance was over what we estimated on the
contract. We paid an extra $219.88. Total profit was $1390.85. Heather said we might need to up our attendance
amount to the 150 range. We need to check what it would cost us to go up to up compared to paying the
overage. Maybe for Baron's we should contract for an attendance of 150. (We have to choose 50-100 or 100-
150.)
Yule Feast: Will be held Dec 14 at the Waitsburg Town Hall with a served feast. Anyone who wants to teach a
class let Thorkell know. Heather will teach How to Run Gate. You can come and work in the kitchen for Cooking
with Gudrun. $5 feast fee for adults. 2 course feast, soups for daytime. Thorkell is event steward.
New Business: None
Officer's Reports:
Seneschal: Revised copies of the fiscal policy were handed out. We need to have it in by the end of the year. It
also has to be approved by the Kingdom Exchequer. Ulrik edited the old one that had been written but not voted
on or sent in. He removed things from the Minor Carte that dealt with money. It has been reviewed by the Fiscal
Committee through online meetings. Inguz wondered about defining member in good standing. Ulrik said that
was already defined in Kingdom law. The policy was approved with the caveat that any typos can still be fixed.
Our Minor Carte will be changed to our "Customary," which shows how we plan to organize our business that is
not already governed by Kingdom law or our local Financial Policy. Send Ulrik an email if you would like to be
involved in reviewing the Customary. We will vote on the it at the next meeting. Her Excellency wondered if we
would have to include all the awards. At this point some may have to have a name change to be registered. It
was suggested that the awards be listed with a note that the names were pending. All reports were in except 2.
Baron and Baroness: They had a great time at As You Like It. She is going to box making this weekend. His
Excellency might have a practice Sunday. They will not be able to make Vulcanfeldt's Yule but will go to an event
in Dragon's Laire instead. Her Excellency did the Kiwanis Club demo and Stykarr was able to make it too. They
weren't really aware that we existed. She let them know that our main focus is educational. Next week is the
dance practice Wednesday the 20th 7:00 at the Richland Community Center, sponsored by the City of Richland.
We need to have 12 people pay the drop in fee in order for them to be willing to schedule the class again. Next
dance class is December 18th.
Reeve: Checking $3994.16 and Savings $5448.05 before this meeting. He got the new laptop and it belongs to
the Barony. He would like to change from BOA, possibly looking for an account with more interest. He is going to
look at an interest bearing checking account. He is seeking officer budget requests for 2014. He has a cheque
request form for the laptop. $250 for castle rental should still be coming.
Chamberlain: Nothing to report. She doesn't think we need to replace the tarp for the trailer.
Website: A change to the front page was made to go with the new SCA welcome page.
Chronicler: Nothing new to report. Request for extension of warrant was sent in. No response has been heard.
Herald: Consulted with 2 people working on devices. We may need to update books, binders and possibly get a
new laptop. We will see if the exchequer one will work. Thorkell will clean it and see if it will work.
Most of the resources for heraldry are online but they still want the book. Facebook Heraldry chat seems to be a
10
helpful resource for preconsulting and it can be listed as consulting herald. At Kingdom events you can get
consulting done and turn it in at the same time. Svanna did hers at Twelfth Night.
Chief Scribe: Is there anything needed for Yule? Her Excellency said the Silver Fox will be given then, though it
doesn't have to be given every year.
Marshall: Practice has moved indoors, Tuesday at 7:00 at New Horizons. They will still go to Toppenish on the
4th Wednesday.
YAC: We had 4 youth practicing this week and only 2 were the Baron's kids. Lots of adult and kid armoring going
on.
Archery: We have the needed bow strings so we now have bows. She would like to start having archery
practice. She is thinking about Wed. afternoon. Will call Ranch and Home and see. There is one in the Lions
building in Walla Walla, but the time it is available isn't workable at this time. She is going to make new holders
for the archery butts, but needs some help making a budget for the cost. Ulrik suggested 100 for all 3 if we are
using EMT. Heather is getting some plans from Ambergard. We are still planning to have a workshop with Robert
Chenoweth to make arrows. They will be all period things no plastic. $45 for 6 arrows. Ulrik mentioned some kids
bows for $39 at Ranch and Home. We will get some more details for a workshop after 12th Night. He has found a
good supplier.
Lists: Emma Godwife did lists for the Rapier tournament. Rowland Greene is the new Defender of Akornebir and
Allen Roy was second and also won the chivalry prize. 14 combatants with 7 rounds. Tavern Brawl was held at
night. The skullduggery prize went to Phillip de Mantel.
Chatelaine: He has lots of flyers. He wants to step down and would like to train a replacement. He will advertise
for a Deputy.
Greteboke: Nothing new to report.
Gold Key: No one is holding this office We will keep it event based, with someone responsible at events where it
is needed.
Arts and Sciences: Marcia will teach wire weaving at As You Like
March 29th she is planning a library demo here. Put it on your calendar. She would like to have people
demonstrating. Pictures on boards of people doing things that can't be shown, like Torvald.
Family Activities: Rashida's background check cleared. She has the boxes. She's going to do woodcraft for
FAMILIES at Yule Feast. She wants to sort at Yule and maybe sell off some items. (We will sell some excess
library books there also.)
Dean of Pages: Nothing new to report.
Chirurgeon: Nothing new to report.
Librarian: Book sale will be held at Yule.
Canton: Everyone had a blast at As You Like and the Canton made some money at the event. $485.98 profit. A
new member, Seth, seems anxious to be get involved.
Next meeting: Will be at CBC in Steinbjorn's classroom. We are going to try this location and see how it goes.
It will be at 6:30 in Room 123 of the CCTE building.
Volunteers needed: If anyone is interested in doing a Viking presentation during Christmas break, we need
someone for Friday December 27th at the library in Kennewick Union. Contact Ulrik if you are interested.
Adjourned at 7:43.
Our Chatelaine, Lord Steinbjorn, is looking for a Deputy who might eventually be willing to take over the office. He finds that his time on the fighting field at practice and at events makes it difficult to have as much time talking to newcomers as he would like. The Chatelaine is the Barony’s newcomer contact, and takes care of making sure that we have brochures and other informational materials. It would be helpful for this officer to be someone who will be at Baronial events and at least some of our public practices where we encounter people with questions about the SCA.
