This year we are trialling new ways to make sure the school day starts and ends

smoothly. The changes take into account our school’s growth, safety, community

feedback and the school’s unique physical layout.

Family Meeting Areas provide common areas within the school site where students can

be safely dropped o and collected, as well as being areas where families can meet and

socialise before and after the school day.

We have a number of sta welcoming students at the Family Meeting Areas before

school. Sta are also in these areas near the end of each day to farewell and support

students and families.

Lea Avenue

Families using this entrance might consider saying ‘Hi’ to our ducks Lilly and Lyla near

the school dam before the children start their day.

Additional seating will shortly be added to this Family Meeting Area. Our school hall is

open during wet weather to keep dry whilst waiting before or after school.

We have a (trial) coee van operating from around 2:50pm (with the nal coee at

3:20pm) for parents and visitors.

Aldinga Drive

This entrance leads directly into busy teaching and learning areas where a large

number of students catching buses assemble each afternoon. We ask that the adjacent

Family Meeting Area be used instead, and we will have sta there to encourage this.

Additional seating will shortly be provided in this area, and there will be improvements

to the garden. The bus shelter bays provide shelter in wet weather.

The introduction of these areas followed parent feedback and consultation with the

Wamberal P&C, the Department’s Health and Safety, School Safety and Security

experts, and our Project Reference Group (including parent representation). The school

is continuing to liaise with the P&C.

We appreciate there will be dierent views about the changes, and invite your feedback

as we continue to monitor them. Please feel free to complete our survey about the trial

and provide feedback on other aspects of the school’s operation.

The survey form is at http://bit.ly/WPSFeb2020Survey

(http://bit.ly/WPSFeb2020Survey) and can be printed as a hard copy. It can be returned

anonymously to the school oce. The QR code below can also be used to access the

survey.

Positive Behaviour for LearningAt Wamberal Public School, we are safe, respectful learners. This week, all students

have been learning about being safe, respectful learners when in grassed play areas of

the school. Teachers are rewarding students with SRLs for demonstrating the school’s

expectations of safe, respectful learner behaviour.

Our teachers are committed to preparing students for the future by embedding 21st

Century skills and building a culture of collaboration. This term’s professional learning

for our teachers is focused on harnessing new means of collaboration. This involves

teams of dedicated and enthusiastic teachers working together to plan and deliver

lessons in order to help every student achieve their personal best. Using student

assessments and samples of work, teachers share their knowledge and expertise to plan

lessons that are personalised and dierentiated. This process also models to our

students how eective collaboration can work. While students are excited to be

working in our new and upgraded facilities, it is the teachers, working in collaboration

that will ensure our students are engaged and successful in their learning.

Supporting Students through the Learningand Support TeamChildren with special learning needs refers to children with learning diculties, a

behaviour disorder and/or a disability. These children have diverse abilities and

learning and wellbeing needs.

Each classroom teacher holds primary responsibility for the learning of every student

in the class. Class teachers work in collaboration with the school’s Learning and

Support Team to ensure that the specic needs of students with disability and

additional learning needs are met.

Our school’s Learning and Support Team:

supports teachers in identifying and responding to the additional learning needs of

students;

facilitates and coordinates a whole school approach to improving the learning

outcomes of every student;

coordinates planning processes and resourcing for students with disability and

additional learning and support needs;

designs and implements the supports required to build teacher capacity so that all

students access quality learning; and

develops collaborative partnerships with the school, parents and carers, other

professionals and the wider school community.

If you have concerns about your child's development or progress at school, it is

important to discuss your concerns with relevant professionals such as, in the rst

instance, the class teacher, the school’s learning and support team members or school

counsellor. Your family doctor or your child's paediatrician may also be of assistance in

this process. Interpreter services and Aboriginal education assistants are available to

assist parents or carers to obtain relevant information and support where required.

Teacher Professional Learning – L3Wamberal Public School supports quality literacy teaching through implementation of

the L3 (Language, Learning and Literacy) program in all K-2 classes. As part of this

commitment, teachers participate in a two year course of professional learning. This

involves attending workshops, modelling lessons, sharing professional readings and

ongoing coaching from a certied L3 trainer. During 2020, the following teachers will

be involved in this training:

Mrs Sinclair (K Orange) Mrs Noakes (1 Purple) Mrs Vretchko (2 Purple)

Mrs Mortlock (K Purple) Mr Bennett (1 Green) Mrs Tyson (2 Green)

Hello from the Library in Week 4

Library Lovers’ DayIn Wamberal Public School we celebrate Library Lovers’ Day, not just on 14th February,

but every day of the year. In a YouTube TEDxYouth Talk

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fLlkOMrMq4), 11-year old April tells us …

“… there’s one thing I know for sure:

reading will be a life-long love for me.

I read because loving just one life is not enough.”

Take a look at some of our students’ most loved books.

(More student recommendations will be included next week.)
