2 Safety information

• Read this publication carefully. Adhere to all instructions, information and safety information to prevent injury to persons and damage to property. WABCO will only guarantee the security, reliability and performance of their products and systems if all information in this publication is adhered to. Any deviating procedure may lead to incorrect results on the vehicle.

• Only trained and qualified technicians are to perform any work on the vehicle.

• Always follow the specifications and instructions of the vehicle manufacturer.

• Comply with all operator accident prevention regulations as well as regional and national regulations.

• Wear suitable protective clothing as the situation requires.

• Your workplace must be dry as well as sufficiently illuminated and ventilated.

• Do not drive on public roads while a safety system of the vehicle is in diagnostic mode.

• Before you perform any further activities on this system you must query the current fault status again after you have eliminated the fault or have cleared the diagnostic memory. This is the only way to ensure that the fault has been eliminated.

• If you have performed a Service Reset (reset of the date or the odometer reading), you must query the current service status before you perform any other activities on the control unit.

Risk of suffocation!

• Perform diagnosis on vehicles with the engine running only in spaces equipped with an exhaust extraction system, or outdoors.

Breathing in carbon monoxide can cause serious damage to health and even death in enclosed spaces without an exhaust extraction system.

Risk of injury!

• Pedal actuations can lead to severe injuries if persons are in the vicinity of the vehicle.

Make sure that pedals cannot be actuated as follows:

• Switch the gearbox to "neutral" and apply the park brake.

• Secure the vehicle against rolling with chocks.

• Fasten a visible note to the steering wheel indicating the work is being performed on the vehicle and that the pedals are not to be actuated.

• Do not actuate system components when there is a possibility of persons being in the danger zone of the component to be actuated.

• Do not wear a tie, wide clothing, open hair, bracelets or watches, etc. when working on the vehicle, especially if the engine is running. Keep your hands and hair away from moving parts.

Fire hazard!

• Only use lamps that are earthed.

• Keep flammable material (cloths, paper, etc.) away from the exhaust system.

• Do not smoke in the workplace.

• Check electrical lines for proper insulation and fastening.

Diagnosis 3Introduction

3 Introduction

While previously a separate test device was required for the diagnosis of each system on the commercial vehicle, a PC or a laptop with the corresponding Diagnostic Software is now sufficient for diagnosis.

PC Diagnosis comprises two types:

• WABCO System Diagnostics (SD) for WABCO systems & components

• WABCOWürth W.EASY® Complete Premium for WABCO systems and systems of other manufacturers

Special test devices and additional devices complete the diagnostics program.

4 System Diagnosis (SD)

"System Diagnosis Software" designates the system diagnosis developed exclusively for WABCO systems.

SD are special programmes with extensive functions which allow you to carry out diagnosis on all electronic WABCO systems.

For diagnosis you will need:

• a standard PC or laptop (see chapter 4.2.1 "PC / Laptop", page 18)

• the WABCO System Diagnosis Software (see chapter 4.1.3 "Package overview", page 12)

• a Diagnostic Interface (see chapter 4.2.2 "Diagnostic Interface", page 18)

• cable for the relevant vehicle type (see chapter 5 "Cable for diagnosis", page 20)

4.1 Diagnostic Software

The rapid developments in vehicle technology and increasingly broad range of functions and sophisticated safety features mean that diagnostic software is required. WABCO provides diagnostic software for all electronic WABCO systems in a variety of vehicles.

There are three ways to obtain the Diagnostic Software.

• As a USB stick version (product numbers 446 301 XXX 0)

• Online as a single download (product number 246 301 XXX 0)

The value for XXX in the order number represents the available versions of the diagnostic software in various languages (see table 4-1 "Program overview of the Diagnostic Software (as of 01/2014)", page 13).

• As part of a WABCO System Diagnosis Subscription.

For the diagnosis of multiple WABCO systems, WABCO offers you four different packages with Diagnostic Software via the Internet. This incorporates numerous diagnostic programs at a very affordable price. You can download the most up-to-date version of the programs from the internet at any time and use them immediately.

WABCO SD Software has the advantage that you are quickly informed of new versions and you can obtain all newly developed Diagnostic Software at no extra cost.

The means of graphic representation provided by the PC make diagnosis clear and structured. Thanks to detailed repair information and circuit diagrams with

measured values, successful diagnosis and repair is made easy and fast.

Diagnosis with the Diagnostic Software can be carried out by any user. If parameters need to be changed or a calibration needs to be carried out, authorisation (PIN) is required (see chapter 4.1.11 "Extended authorisation (PIN)", page 17).

You can obtain this PIN through relevant training or E-Learning at the WABCO University.

More information on WABCO University training courses can be found on the Internet at http://www.wabco-university.com.

There are examples of the diagnostic software below, with extracts from the software for the trailer EBS E system.

Following a short scan one obtains a complete overview of the detected control units as well as an initial assessment of their functional state. If events are stored in the diagnostic memory, these are displayed for all control units. Then it only takes the touch of a button to directly launch the diagnostic software.

Extreme simplification of diagnosis means that is no longer essential to know which program is started. The SD Manager carries out the preselection. This means that even staff who are not confronted with WABCO system diagnosis on a daily basis will have no problem with initiating focused and efficient fault finding. The SD manager avoids the laborious process of launching and trying out different WABCO diagnostic software programs.

The SD Manager is available for download immediately in myWABCO. It is a free component of all subscriptions, but it can also be purchased as a separate download for a fee.

Planned SD Manager enhancements include an automatic update service for all WABCO system diagnostic programs as well as the comprehensive management of all associated PINs.

4.1.6 Diagnostic Software Search Engine

The WABCO Diagnostic Software Search Engine will enable you to find the matching diagnostic software for every WABCO ECU.

– Simply enter the number of the ECU at http://abo.wabco.info/ecu2diag.php.

In the response you will get the name and version of the WABCO Diagnostic Software to use.

4.1.7 WABCO Diagnostic Newsletter

Is the Diagnostic Software installed on your workshop computer up-to-date? It is easy to lose track when subscribing to the Diagnostic Software package which comprises over 40 programs.

The WABCO Diagnostic newsletter provides specific information on updates for selected programs or new language versions. Use of this service is anonymous and the newsletter only includes information pertaining to diagnosis - you will not receive any mails with advertisements:

• Changes to and updates for exiting diagnostic programs

• Information on new programs in a specific language

The WABCO Diagnostic Newsletter is cost-free and can be used multiple times per company.

Registering for the WABCO Diagnostic newsletter

– Start your browser and enter the following Internet address: http://www.wabco-auto.com/sd

– Click on line "WABCO Diagnostic Newsletter". – Enter your e-mail address and select the action

"subscribe" to activate the initial subscription of the newsletter.

Within a short period of time you will receive an e-mail with a link. With a click on this link you confirm that your e-mail address has not been misused.

– Enter your e-mail address a second time in the login mask and then select the action "Edit settings". The link that you now receive by e-mail will take you to a website where you can define in detail the topics you want to be informed about in future via e-mail newsletter.

Note the other option fields for diagnostic devices and adapters as well. You can revise your personal newsletter settings by the same procedure any time you wish.

– If you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, select the function "unsubscribe" in the login mask. The newsletter is then completely deactivated.

4.1.8 Licence agreement

During the installation of a WABCO Diagnostic Program the licence agreement is automatically displayed. You must accept the licence agreement if you want to install the program.

You can also call up the licence agreement on

the WABCO website http://www.wabco-auto.com/sd by clicking the link "Terms & Conditions".

A Diagnostic Subscription lasts for one year. After the expiration of the year we remind you of the extension of the contract.

If you intend to install the Diagnostic Software on several computers, you need to purchase additional licenses. To install on another PC, copy the *.exe file for the diagnostic software you have downloaded from the internet to the other PC. You can now execute the program from this computer and install the Diagnostic Software.

4.1.9 Activating the WABCO Diagnostic Software

All WABCO diagnostic programs need to be activated. After installation, you can use the program in full for 10 days without activating it, but after that you will not be able to use it without activating. Every time the program is started, you are informed of how long the program remains operational without activation.

After activation, the Diagnostic Software is tied to the PC. This means the license is used up. So you should only activate the diagnostic software on the PC on which is will be used and not, for example on an office PC for testing.

– To activate the software, click "Request activation codes".

You now have a two options to request an activation code:

• Online

For online activation, the computer must be connected to the Internet.

• Via WABCO Activation@Web

Online

– For online activation, click "Start Activation via Internet".

– Once you have established an Internet connection, click "Activate now".

The message "Activation in progress..." appears and, after activation has been successfully completed, the message "Activation was successful" appears. After successful activation, the program is started. In the event that a connection could not be established, a message will appear listing the possible causes. If you are unable to correct the cause, you can activate the software only via Activation@Web.

Page 17: WABCO - DIAGNOSIS

Diagnosis 4System Diagnosis (SD)

Activation@Web

Activation@Web is a continually available Internet portal that can generate activation codes at any time of day or night. To use it, you only need a PC and an Internet connection – it is not necessary to use the PC on which the software is to be activated for this purpose.

– Start your browser and enter the following Internet address: http://abo.wabco.info/software_activation.php

– Enter the required data in the window.

You can enter the data manually or use the service "Activation@Web via USB" described there. This transfers the data using a USB stick.

You will be given an activation code for the diagnostic software. Once the activation code has been successfully entered, the program is started.

4.1.10 License version

You are provided with the license version (LIC) in the download area as well as in the WABCO Diagnostic Newsletter if there is a software update.

If there is a change in the version compared with the version that you have, the Diagnostic Software must be reactivated.

You will find the current licence version for all programs at the top section of the window in your program:

4.1.11 Extended authorisation (PIN)

Diagnosis with the Diagnostic Software can be carried out by any user. If parameters are to be changed however, authorisation is required (PIN). You can obtain this PIN through relevant training or E-Learning at the WABCO University.

More information on WABCO University training and E-Learning courses can be found on the Internet at http://www.wabco-university.com.

After you have completed a corresponding training or E-Learning course at the WABCO University, you will receive a PIN letter. This letter (in contrast to the previously valid licence letter which you needed to retrieve this data from the internet) contains your personal user ID as well as the Personal Identification Number (PIN) for WABCO Diagnostic Software. This PIN is used to enable extended functions of the Diagnostic Software and change the settings in the electronic control units.

You can continue to retrieve other PINs for older software versions from the internet.

4.1.12 PIN version

You are provided with the PIN version in the download area as well as in the WABCO Diagnostic Newsletter if there is a software update.

If there is a difference in the new version compared with the version that you are using, you will require a new PIN. You can obtain it through the respective training at the WABCO University.

You will find the current PIN version for all programs at the top section of the window in your program:

4.2 Hardware

4.2.1 PC / Laptop

WABCO can offer you an impact and dirt resistant laptop suitable for the workshop. This can be supplied with the diagnostic software pre-installed on request (product number 446 301 999 0).

fig. 4-3: Laptop "Toughbook"

The Diagnostic Software can also run on any standard PC with Microsoft Windows XP operating system or higher.

There are no special requirements for the hardware. The PC must have a free USB port for the Diagnostic Interface however.

4.2.2 Diagnostic Interface

To set up diagnosis for the control unit, you need the WABCO Diagnostic Interface with product number 446 301 030 0 (USB).

The set includes the Diagnostic Interface and an USB connecting cable to the PC or laptop.

The vehicle connection on the Diagnostic Interface matches the connection for the Diagnostic Controller and earlier versions of the diagnostic interface, permitting the continued use of connecting cables used in the past.

Depending on which WABCO electronic system you wish to test, you will need the appropriate connection cables, see chapter 5 "Cable for diagnosis", page 20.

5 Cable for diagnosis

5.1 Diagnostic accessory kit

WABCO offers accessory kits matching the Diagnostic Software packages. These cases include the cables that are most commonly used. Not all cables that WABCO offers are contained in the accessory kit however.

Having these accessory kits means you will always have the most important connecting elements between ECU and your PC on hand. Once the vehicle has been diagnosed, all cables can be stored in a manner where they are protected as well as easily identified. If you already own the individual components, you may also order the case without alone (without content).

The following combinations of WABCO accessory kit and Diagnostic Software packages make good sense:

• Diagnostic Software package Full 246 301 900 0

5.1.2 "Towing vehicle" accessory kit 446 301 025 0

The accessory kit for towing vehicles perfectly supplements the Diagnostic Software package of the same name to cover diagnosis of the towing vehicles. This case was deliberately designed without Diagnostic Interface. This as an excellent add-on for all those who already have the trailer accessory kit 446 301 023 0 and do not require two diagnostic interfaces. Customers who purchase such a case for the first time and therefore do not have a Diagnostic Interface yet, can order the interface separately. There is space for this in the kit so you can store all the components you need together.

Labour rates

As an option, we can provide extensive working measurements with helpful, transparent jobs included. The working measurements module also allows you to carry out calculations of combined working measurements. This means you do not need to charge your customers for duplicated calculations which are used in the relevant major jobs. You can also use the working measurements module to produce cost quotations, orders, invoices and supplier purchase orders.

The software has a clear menu structure and is intuitive to use (maximum full text search, like an Internet search engine).

Integrated help functions and function descriptions allow diagnosis with just a few clicks.

W.EASY is the only diagnostic system to offer genuine multitasking for convenient, even more efficient diagnosis. The real-time display of various functions and information in up to four windows makes diagnosis clearer and saves valuable time.

Regular updates always keep the diagnostic system up to date.

As well as our multi-brand diagnostic solutions, WABCOWÜRTH also offer comprehensive services, personalised advice, a product and vehicle technical hotline, user training and attractive leasing and financing products.

Because customer requirements vary massively, services from WABCOWÜRTH are flexible and modular. The wider commercial vehicle sector has diagnostic requests and cost structures that extend beyond workshop networks for major manufacturers. Workshops for forwarding agencies or freight service providers have different systems requirements than a transport or trailer specialist does.

At WABCOWÜRTH, all customers get exactly what they need.
