HOMEWORK Yellow Folders: At the beginning of each week there

is a reading sheet. There are 4 areas to be colored for each book you read. We recommend that you read the same book 3 of the 4 nights so your child can gain deeper understanding. Homework is provided a month at a time.

Students will also have a zip-lock reading bag. This bag will have decodable/phonetic/ or sight-word based readers inside. Please work with your child on whatever reader comes home. Don’t return the books until they are mastered. You can use these books with the above homework sheet.

Your child will also be receiving sight word/letter rings.o Children still working on letter names and sounds will

receive letters first. Once they have mastered the letter names and sounds, the teacher will send home the first sight word list. Sight words are to be memorized, not sounded out. There is no time requirement for sight words. Periodic checks of their sight word mastery will be done throughout the year, with the goal being to master 100 words by year’s end.

THINGS TO KNOW Behavior Charts should be initialed daily. Check and return red folders each day. Children must wear tennis shoes to PE in order to

participate. Please send your child with a healthy snack

everyday. A change in transportation must be sent in a note. Kindergarten curriculum can be found at

http://portal.cherokee.k12.ga.us/ps/Pages/Kindergarten.aspx Homework should not take more than 15 minutes

a night. Read, Read, Read to your child and with your child

every night!

RedHawk Nation Expectations

I will focus on my own behavior and be a positive role model at all times by: Communicating Politely Respecting All Walking Properly Listening Actively Speaking Truth Encouraging Others Transitioning Appropriately Following Procedures Showing Ownership Remembering Others Seeking Help Rising Up Because… I AM A REDHAWK!

SIX TRIBES. ONE NATION.

Behavior ChartGold- Students who go the “extra mile” in class and school will receive extra recognition by changing their color to gold for the day. If a child goes home on this color, it is an honor and should be commended.

Blue-Students who go home on blue have exhibited behavior above and beyond what is expected.

Green- Each child will start the day on green and will remain on green by following the HAWK expectations. Yellow-When the student is on yellow, he or she had a good day with no more than one verbal redirection.

Orange- He or she continued to make poor choices and required redirections.

Red- Red indicates that the student had multiple redirections and is not demonstrating HAWK behavior. If a student goes home on red, parent contact will be initiated through phone call or a note home describing the behavior difficulties and any consequences that have already been met at school.
