WHAT'S CHANGED SINCE THEY LAST MET

On Sunday it will have been exactly two years and 12 days since Arizona and Washington last met in the regular season (Week 1 of '18 season). In that me, however, much has changed.

Both the Cardinals (Kliff Kingsbury) and Washington (Ron Rivera) have new head coaches and coaching staff s. Of the Cardinals 22 starters from their Week 1 contest vs. Washington in '18, just eight (Fitzgerald, Humphries, Cole, Pugh, Peters, C. Jones, P. Peterson, Baker) will be in the star ng lineup on Sunday.

For Washington, only four of the 22 starters from last week's opener vs. Philadelphia (Roullier, Scherff , J. Allen, Payne) were in the star ng lineup in Week 1 of '18.

The Cardinals defeated the defending NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers 24-20 in the season-opener at Levi’s Stadium last week. With the victory, Arizona earned its fi rst Week 1 win since 2015 and fi rst Week 1 road victory since 2010.

That is the most 4th-quarter comeback victories on Kickoff Weekend since 2016 (nine teams).

Arizona trailed 10-0 early and entered the 4th quarter trailing 13-10 but went on to earn the comeback victory. In 2019, the Cardinals were 0-7-1 in games they trailed entering the fourth quarter. Prior to last week, the last me the Cardinals won a game in which they trailed entering the fourth

quarter was on 10/28/18 vs. San Francisco (trailed 12-3 entering the fourth and won 18-15).

The Cardinals comeback victory was the result of two long fourth quarter TD drives (94 and 75 yards). It marked the fi rst me since 2016 (12/18 vs. New Orleans; 75 and 75 yards) that Arizona had mul ple TD drives of 75+ yards in the fourth quarter/OT of a game.

ON TOP OF THE STANDINGS AFTER WEEK 1By earning a road win against a division opponent in Week 1, Arizona jumped into the early lead in the NFC West in 2020. Three of the four teams in the division earned victories last week.

The NFC West joined the AFC West as the only divisions with at least three wins on Kickoff Weekend.

HOPKINS' RECORD-BREAKING DEBUT

The Cardinals off ense posted eye-popping numbers in the victory over San Fran-cisco, but it was the defense that made a pair of stands to change the momentum and ul mately seal the victory.

Trailing 10-7 early in the second quarter, San Francisco had a 4th-n-goal from inside the AZ one-yard line when LBs Devon Kennard and De’Vondre Campbell (both signed as free agents in the off season) teamed up to stop 49ers RB Raheem Mo-stert on a run up the middle.

Earlier this offseason, the Cardinals acquired three-time 1st-team All-Pro WR DeAndre Hopkins in a trade with the Houston Texans. Last Tuesday (9/8), the team signed him to a contract extension that will keep the four-time Pro Bowler in Arizona through the 2024 sea-son.

CARDINALS TAKE PART IN PUSH FOR JUSTICE

Throughout the 2020 season, Cardinals players and coaches are joining the rest of the NFL in honoring and memorializing vic ms of system-ic racism and showing their support for Social Jus ce eff orts by displaying names or phrases as decals on the back of their helmets and patches on their caps.

The season-long eff ort highlights the ac ons being taken to reach solu ons, engages fans to act, and gives players and coaches a pla orm on gameday to share their voice and eff orts to inspire change. Together, the NFL is joining its players and coaches in building awareness, educa ng fans, and paying homage to those who deserve to have their legacies live on.

The NFL will partner with players to tell the stories of the vic ms or phrase that they have chosen to honor on their helmets. Fans will be able to learn more about these stories and how to get involved at nfl .com/inspirechange.

CARDINALS SPEAKING UPThroughout the off season, numerous Cardinals players spoke up about their own experiences and and the importance of coming together to make meaningful change a reality in the United States.

DL Corey Peters - 8/28/20DL Corey Peters spoke about how important it is that everyone engage in the conversa ons and understand other viewpoints:

“One thing we want to do is be sensi ve to one another, have compassion for one another and you know, we can disagree with certain things peace-fully and all work towards the same goal of not only winning but make this a be er country for everybody."

OL D.J. Humpries - 8/28/20OL D.J. Humphries spoke about his children being a major mo vator in trying to help bring about change:

“I know how to accept what the world has for you. I know how to maneuver in this world. But for my children, that's not what I want. I want my children to grow up in a fair world and grow up in a world where what the Cons tu- on says is how it really is."

Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury - 8/27/2020Kingsbury talked about what the Cardinals players and coaches have been discussing and learning from each other during recent events across the country:

"I had a great conversa on with my dad over the summer, and his perspec- ve on things that was really valuable as we get closer to the season – the

anthem, discussions and things of that nature.

“My dad was a long me football coach but also a Marine. He served in Vietnam, received a Purple Heart. Talking to him, there were two words that really stood out. One was respect, and the second thing was under-standing. Respect viewpoints people have on this topic. They’re very per-sonal and very passionate. And respect their right to express themselves.

“You’ve got to understand, at its core, what this is really about. It’s always been about drawing a en on to the social injus ce that con nues to take place. We saw it again this week with Jacob Blake. It’s about increasing awareness that racism exists, police brutality against people of color con- nues to happen, and let’s not confuse it with something else and make

the narra ve diff erent.

“My biggest takeaway from talking to my dad is that kneeling doesn’t re-fl ect a lack of patrio sm or respect for the military in any way, just like standing during the anthem doesn’t mean you’re OK with racism or social injus ce. It’s important to respect and understand that. These are impor-tant issues that need to be addressed, and important conversa ons that need to be had. I’m grateful that I’ve been able to be around a great group of guys that have enlightened me – hearing their stories and their strug-gles. Those conversa ons will con nue throughout the year. I just hope we can all con nue to push in the right direc on.”

QB Kyler Murray - 6/17/20Following the death of George Floyd and the resul ng protests around the country, Murray spoke the change he saw happening in real me:

"There is a lot of hate in this world, but at the same me, what's happen-ing and what we're seeing right now, it's huge. I don't condone rio ng and stuff like that, but the peaceful protests, I think they're great, they're amaz-ing. Whether it takes years, I feel like we're ge ng there. At least we're making a step towards it."

Drafted by the Cardinals in the fourth round (134th

overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Fordham - RB Chase Edmonds is in his third NFL season in 2020.

Much like fellow 2018 draftee WR Christian Kirk, the Cardinals see big things ahead.

"We all feel like he’s a starting running back in this league, and he does, too,” head coach Kliff Kings-bury said of Edmonds. "When he had his opportu-nities, he shined, and he continues to shine. He can catch it, run it, block, play special teams, and he’s re-ally bright football-wise. He’s everything you want.”

Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country earlier this year the eff ects of the outbreak have reached every corner of the U.S. and has had a devasta ng impact on ci zens and businesses across the na on. The Cardinals organiza- on – along with the players and staff – immediately mobilized to donate me,

money and other resources throughout Arizona to assist the individuals, busi-nesses, schools, frontline health care personnel and other organiza ons that have been so greatly aff ected by the crisis.

$1 MILLION FOUNDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE AZ CORONAVIRUS RELIEF FUNDOn March 24, the Cardinals made a $1 million founding contribu on to the AZ Coronavirus Relief Fund. As part of the Arizona Together ini a ve launched earlier that day by Governor Doug Ducey, the fund was set upestablished to provide fi nancial support to organiza ons working to mi gate the impacts of COVID-19 in Arizona. Ini ally, it focused on the following immediate needs:

Funding of Personal Protec ve Equipment (PPE) for frontline medical per-sonnel. Non-profi t organiza ons that support the most vulnerable Arizonans through food banks, homeless shelters, domes c violence facili es, and other services. Providing disadvantaged students with the technology necessary to transi on to online learning.

“Like so many in our community, this unprecedented crisis has us asking what we can do to help and what might have the greatest impact,” said Cardinals Owner Michael Bidwill said of the dona on. “We are grateful for the crea on of this relief fund, are proud to support its cri cally important mission and hope that others throughout the community can join this eff ort in whatever way that they are able. As a team, we will con nue to work on addi onal ways to make a diff erence and know that as a community we will get through this challenging me together.”

To assist local businesses during the crisis, the Cardinals made a $100,000 dona on to Local First Arizona, Arizona’s Coronavirus Micro Grant Fund

MILLION MEALS DONATION TO LOCAL FOOD BANKSIn early April, the Cardinals and State Farm partnered on an historic ini a ve to address a pressing local need arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of people seeking assistance from local food banks more than doubled as a re-sult of the unparalleled crisis. Unfortunately, the number of dona ons to them decreased just as drama cally.

As part of their on-going commitment to improve the local community, State Farm and the Cardinals helped tackle the issue by dona ng over a million 1,000,000 meals that were distributed to fi ve non-profi t organiza ons through-out the Valley. The fi ve groups involved in the “Million Meal” dona on were:

St. Mary’s Food Bank St. Vincent DePaul United Food Bank Phoenix Rescue Mission Midwest Food Bank

ORGANIZATION LAUNCHES “CARDINALS CARRY OUT” INITIATIVE TO ASSIST INDEPENDENT, LOCALLY OWNED RESTAURANTSOn April 13 the team launched “Cardinals Carry-out” - an unprecedented ini a ve with a dual purpose: assist independent, locally-owned restaurants hit hard by the coronavirus crisis and recognize those working on the front lines of the pandemic in the medical community, law enforcement and emergency services.

Cardinals players and fans nominated their favorite establishments for inclusion on the team’s interac ve statewide map and supported them with take-out business.

In the spirit of the NFL Dra , the team selected establishments from the map each day and purchased meals which were delivered to nurses, doctors, fi rst responders and others who work daily to combat the impact of COVID-19.

When it was launched, the fi rst 47 establishments on the map refl ected the favorites of Car-dinals players and staff as well as those near area hospitals suggested by Local First Arizona. Within the fi rst week, over 800 restaurants throughout the state have been added based on recommenda ons from fans.

“It’s great that a major sports team would put together such a thing that is community driven and helps restaurants navigate these tough mes…we’re kind of in survival mode but we’re going to make it out," said Chris Hove, owner of Perfect Pear Bistro in Chandler which was recommended by defensive lineman Zach Allen.

HOSTING CRITICAL BLOOD DRIVES, DRIVE THROUGH TESTING AND PPE DRIVES AT STATE FARM STADIUM One area hit par cularly hard by the COVID-19 crisis was the local blood dona on community, where the supply reached cri cally low levels during a crucial me in March. In a seven-day span between March 19 and March 26, nearly 200 blood drives in Arizona were cancelled, resul ng in the loss of more than 5,000 blood dona ons for hospital pa ents.

To assist in mee ng this direly pressing need, the Cardinals partnered with Dignity Health and Cigna to host a major one-day blood drive at State Farm Stadium. In conjunc on with Sco sdale-based Vitalant (pronounced “vye-TAL-ent” and formerly known as United Blood Services) the event took place at State Farm Stadium on March 31. All dona on slots for the drive were fi lled within hours of the event being announced.

The outpouring of support from the community resulted in two addi onal blood drives being scheduled at State Farm Stadium. On back-to-backs on April 7-8, in conjunc on with the Ameri-can Red Cross, the Cardinals partnered with Anheuser-Busch to host blood drives at State Farm Stadium and all dona on slots were again fi lled.

On April 15, the Cardinals and Project C.U.R.E hosted a Personal Protec ve Equipment (PPE) drive at State Farm Stadium. The event was to help collect equipment for use by those in the local healthcare community, including eye protec on, face shields, surgical masks, N95 masks, gloves, shoe covers and hand sani zer.
