President’s Message: Quilting Quote: “If there are no Quilting Guilds in Heaven, I ain’t going!”
I cannot believe we are approaching May
and our Quilt Show is only 5 months away, it will
be here before we know it. So, this month, I am
letting you know what our Guild needs from you.
Here is a list of items we need your help
with prior to our show.
Sign Up for the Following Events:
Berry Creek Festival: Saturday, August 11,
Butte County Fair: August 23rd-26th, 2018
Salmon Festival, Saturday September 22, 2018
I will have the signup sheet available at the May,
June, and July, day and night meetings, also at the
June Retreat 7th, 8th and 9th.
On June 7, 2018, at 10:45am, Barbara Ott
will be presenting information on how to signup
online for quilt entries to the fair. We are
required to have 5 quilts entered from the guild.
BOTIQUE ITEMS: Dorothy is asking all
members to have all the boutique items that you
are working on completed and turn in by
September’s meeting.
This is just a short list of items that we need help
with. Our Quilt Chair will be asking our help as
our Quilt Show is approaching. I am asking every
member to be available to her when she needs us.
Remember, the proceeds from our Quilt Show
and Opportunity Quilt support our community
service program, education programs, scholarship
program, workshops and provide public service
projects for the good of our community
I want to thank all of you for volunteering
throughout the years. It is members like you are
the reason why I love being an Oroville
Piecemakers Quilt Guild member.
Jeanette Akin, 370-0248
Moonlighters Chair:
It’s now April and spring weather has
been unsettled. Tonight, we are doing the
“Scrappy Mountain Majesty” class that
Claudia is teaching. We have many members
who are doing the class and so far, their blocks
are beautiful. I cannot wait to see what the
quilts will look like.
Our dinners are always excellent.
Again, the Food Committee did a fantastic job
in organizing this month’s dinner. Thank you
for all your hard work.
It is always wonderful to see everyone
at the meetings. This month our meeting was
short due to the class. However, everyone
seemed to be enjoying the meeting. Our
mystery quilts are growing and loving the new
challenges every month.
Time is flying by and our Quilt Show is
getting closer. I only have two quilts to show.
I need to get busy and make at least one more.
Our show and tell this month was fantastic and
there were so many beautiful quilts that were
presented.
I missed some faces this meeting and I hope to
see you all next month.
Virginia Brile 534-9637
May Birthdays:
May Speaker: We had a great presentation by Cathy
Evans on what we should be doing with our
quilts before we turn them over to a Long
Armer. I learned a few things and hope you did
as well. In May we will have Sandra Bruce
who will be speaking on "Material Matrix and
the paths taken" and in June we will have
Marjan Kluepfel on the Evolution of an Art
Quilter. I know we will enjoy both ladies.
Sharon Helton, 743-7465
June Retreat: June 7-9 at the grange. We will also
have Deby Hendrickson back again to clean
your machines, thus far we have 8 machines
which will fill up Friday the 8th, we will now
start going into Thursday the 7th if we can get
another 4 machines. Let me know if you want
your machines cleaned so I can add you to the
list.
Sharon Helton, 743-7465
May Workshop: Everyone had a great time making
Jimmy Buffet shirts in this month’s
workshop. I'm sorry I had to miss it.
On May 3rd Dorie Javier from Folsom is
teaching "Twister". She says it is very easy so
don't be afraid to sign up. It's a great way to use
scraps. Cost of class is $20 plus $8 for the
pattern. She will have kits for sale for $24.95
for 14 assorted fabrics. You will need to
provide 2 1/2 yards for background.
She recommends a medium to dark fabric. She
is also bringing fabric and other patterns for
sale so if you're not taking the class come
anyway and shop.!,
If you didn't sign up at the meeting and
want to take the class call me and I’ll send you
the supply list. To get a head start you can cut
5 x 3" pieces of both background and prints.
Lunch will be potluck. Come sew, or
just hang out. There is no charge if you are
working on community service or boutique
projects.

participate in an introduction to quilts during

information on our summer Quilt Camp to get

I need your help! I need to borrow
small quilts from members. The quilts should
be historical and modern styles. (Baltimore
Album, Log Cabin, Sunbonnet Sue, T shirt,

loan quilts for this presentation.
The Summer Kids Quilt Camp will be
held during the week of July 9th to 13th, in the

Claudia's large quilt was also the class
she taught that night.
Millie had the cute Easter wall hanging
and the Asian quilt.
Sandi's giant black/grey/white quilt was
a UFO project from last year called Concrete
Jungle
Fran's colorful wall quilt (white
background, flying geese) and the fabrics she
used were a challenge from a friend
Dorothy W's quilt from the Don Linn
class (last Feb) reminds her of a cruise ship, I
think she is calling it The Flow of Water. She
also had the mystery quilt from last year -- looks
lovely, but I am biased :-)
Mary Kaye showed us the variation on
Storm at Sea (with the heart) and the shirt quilt,
which I think she also showed in the day
group.
Cindy's two modern quilts were
lovely. Don't remember if there was a story
with the larger nautical/compass quilt top, but
the small one with the flying geese is a mini
quilt trade she is doing with someone online. Sabrina Bell: 917-0803.
