1 Foothills Piecemakers Quilting Guild Newsletter Greenville, South Carolina www.foothillsquilts.com December 2016 ~ Vol XXVI, No 6 Next Guild Meeting: December 1, 2016, at 7pm Grace Baptist Church Fellowship Hall 5020 Old Spartanburg Road, Taylors, SC Remember – There is no January newsletter. Submissions are due to Gayle Brown no later than January 19, 2017 for the February newsletter. ([email protected]) Happy Birthday in December Phyllis Costa 12/2 Leslie Garza 12/4 Terry Weinbender 12/5 Karen Carson 12/7 Jennifer Neubauer 12/8 Dr. Johnnie Parker 12/10 Betty Cirillo 12/12 Dorothy Johansen 12/13 Debbie Johnson 12/17 Phyllis Collins 12/18 Debbie Miller 12/19 Pam Kerrigan 12/20 Beverly Nelson 12/22 Deborah Plummer 12/14 Holly Anderson 12/25 Darlene Sanford 12/31 President’s Message Hello Quilting Friends! The last month of 2016 is here already! How did that happen? Some may be quite ready to look at the year in the rearview mirror. Maybe the year has been a trying one with health or family issues. Some may remember 2016 with great fondness – possibly there was an addition to the family or a memorable trip was enjoyed. In either case, we all are bidding another calendar year a fond (?!?) farewell. And we won’t talk about how fast the time has flown by. For us as members of Foothills Piecemakers Quilting Guild, the year runs from July 1 to June 30. However, to stay with the calendar theme, let’s recap 2016: For ten months of the year we had outstanding lectures and trunk shows. There was something for everyone when you look back at Roger Winchell, the Pizza Girls, Lynn Rinehart, Bonnie Ouelette, Stacy Michell and Tone Haugen-Cogburn and the great talents they showcased. Each and every month many of you took part during “Show and Share” which was an inspiration to us all. Our socials in July and December were loads of fun and filled with wonderful food offerings. We had our own members, Sue Burton and Lynn Parker, who provided outstanding instructions and guidance in their two classes. Tone Haughen-Cogburn’s “Miniature Landscape” class in November was very well attended and received, too. The Challenge and Mystery Quilt reveal in May was brilliant under the guidance of Deb Plummer and Cheryl Brickey. We’re very proud of the spectacular 2016 Quilt Show, “Threaded Memories” in April, co-chaired by Darleen Sanford and Sandy Wolf. These two ladies were tireless and there were many opportunities for every member of the guild to participate. There is the Philanthropy team co-chaired by Lois Gaston, Debbie Johnson and Terry Weinbender who have guided many pieces of fabric and binding into comforting quilts and beautiful tote bags for the three shelters we support. Have you been inspired to work with these ladies? They have fabric, batting, binding and labels ready for any of the many steps it takes to make a quilt or tote. Remember that one person does not have to make a quilt from start-to-finish. You can work on any step in the process…just ask Lois, Debbie or Terri who are eager to share. The Quilts of Valor organization has also had an amazing year of participation. Many men and women in our state who are active duty military along with the numerous veterans among us appreciate being covered in a quilt made especially for them. Contact Suzanne DiCarlo who is our state coordinator for QOV on ways you can provide support. Our recap has given us the chance to review another wonderful year of friendship, learning and sharing as we have each had a chance – or two – to actively participate in FPQG. As you look towards the brand new calendar year, please take a look at the committees and classes and opportunities you have to learn and experience even more with us and our guild. See you on December 1 st , Karen Carson
