AROUND THE BLOCK: Mattie Spaulding – Guild President

I hope you are making plans to attend our August Quilt Guild meeting. We will be choosing new officers and

want everyone's input on that.

The President's Challenge to finish our UFO's will culminate with a drawing at the end of the meeting, so be

sure to finish any projects you may have laying around.

Thanks for your cards, calls and prayers while I have been laid up. I knew knee replacement surgery would

be no picnic, but it has been so much more than I expected. It doesn't help that I'm slightly impatient and not

used to sitting still.

Look forward to seeing you all at the meeting, Monday, August 6. Sew days for August will be Thursday the

2nd and Saturday the 18th, as well as Friday afternoons at the Senior Center.

NEXT MEETING: Rhonda Barnett – Co-Vice President

August is the meeting you don’t want to miss. I hope y'all have been busy with summer fun and enjoying the

outdoors, but if you can make the time we have a special program planned. If any of you are thinking of

putting a quilt in the fair or just want to learn tips and tricks to make your quilt look its best. We are having a

program from Pam Shartzer called “Why didn’t my quilt win a blue ribbon”. Pam will have handouts and a

bevy of her own quilts that she points out the good and the bad.

I will also have a pattern for the rotary cutter we voted to make for the 2019 Quilters Day Out. I will have a

quick tutorial of how to make so we can get ahead of the game on these and not wait till the last minute.

Also don’t forget if you are signed up to provide a quilt for the Heartland Of Kentucky quilt show in

September I need your completed quilt form at our August meeting. I will have extra forms at the meeting in

case you didn’t get one. I will need your quilts at the September meeting. If you finish a quilt between the

August meeting and the September meeting, you can still bring it to enter, but you must an entry form with

it.

Looking forward to our meeting; hope to see you all there. Rhonda

Officer Election; Be thinking about who you would like to elect to be officers of the Quilt Guild.

Special Event – A friend of Peggy Franklin’s is no longer able to sew and quilt and has asked Peggy to help

her to dispose of her “stash”. Peggy will set up a table at our August meeting to sell her friend’s stash at a

ANDERSON COUNTY PIECEMAKERS QUILT GUILD - MEETING MINUTES - JULY 2, 2018

The Quilt Guild met at the Extension Office on July 2, 2018. Members present were Marsha C, Betty Jo,

Clara, Joan, Betty Ann, Darlene, Marcia R, Joyce, Evelyn, Barbara, Theresa M, Kaye H, Mary L, Rhonda,

Wilma, Linda, Pollie, Connie, Carol, Audrey, Judy, and Peggy. The Board met at 6:00 to review the meeting

agenda and discuss upcoming events.

Marsha C called the meeting to order at 7:00 in Mattie’s absence and welcomed everyone. Audrey and Judy

are new members. She asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from last month. There

was a question about the bank balance difference in the newsletter and the June minutes.

The Treasurer amount given to the newsletter editor was from another month. The Treasurer gave a corrected

bank balance as $823.52 for July. Linda made the motion, Barbara seconded to accept the minutes. Motion

carried.

As the fat quarter stash is locked in the supply closet, July birthday gals will be able to choose a fat quarter at

the August meeting. They are Rebekah, Mary L, Dixie, Evelyn, Holly, Connie, Hannah, and Christine.

Old Business:

Rhonda reviewed the information about the Heartland of Kentucky Quilt Show on September 14 and 15,

2018. Anderson County Piecemakers is the featured quilt guild at this year’s show. We will need at least 25

and no more than 30 quilts to exhibit. The quilts are not judged, just displayed. She passed out the entry

forms. She needs these back along with a photo of each quilt by August meeting. A separate form is required

for each quilt. She read the list of members already signed up to display their quilts.

As we chose at the June meeting to make rotary cutter covers for Quilters’ Day Out in 2019, members may

begin to make them if they have a pattern. About 250 are needed.

New Business

Officers will be elected at the August meeting to begin their one year term in September, 2019. Mattie

asked Marsha to ask the group for members willing to step up and serve as an officer. Betty Jo is willing

to serve a second year as secretary. She pointed out that as listed in the by-laws, officers may serve a

second consecutive year before rotating off that position. She also recommends the person serving as

secretary be able to type

Joan is willing to serve a second year as Treasurer.

Rhonda said she would be unable to serve as President.

Marsha Cole said she will be willing to serve as President if Rhonda will serve as Vice President. There

were no others offering to be a candidate. Marsha will give this information to Mattie.

Announcements

There will be an advanced Serger Class in Franklin County in August. Information is in the newsletter.

Marsha has forms for participation in the Burgoo Festival Quilt Block Contest.

Evelyn reported on the Anderson County Home, Garden and Craft Fair on July 31. Entries may be

brought to the Extension Office in the evening on July 30. Brochures are in the Extension Office. There

will not be a category for Antiques this year as a judge is not available. She still needs volunteers. Joyce

Cox is the chairperson for lunch for the judges.

Marsha said that other dates of interest are in the newsletter.

Several members have various health concerns: Jackie, Dixie, Roetta, Mable and Mattie. Shelia’s

brother recently passed away in another state.

The ABC challenge has been extended to anyone still working on their project.

Peggy showed a crayon quilt she is making for her granddaughter, Zoe.

Marcia R and Kaye H received door prizes.

Rhonda and Betty Jo showed blocks of the month. Rhonda has completed several. Betty Jo had the

appliqued barn.

Marsha announced the September program will be on learning to applique.
