Autobiography of Colleen Virgil.

My name is Colleen Virgil, I am 25 years of age and I reside in Chaguanas, Trinidad. In my years growing up I always had a love for music and drama. I was one to stand in front of my mirror with the hairbrush as a mic and sing, to the top of my voice, any of my favorite songs. It did not matter what genre of music, all that mattered was that the melody and lyric content was great and I gravitated to-wards the love for the music industry.

The awareness of my talent arose from entering a Calypso competition at my Pri-mary School in standard Four. Ever since, I always had to ensure I gave acknowl-edgement to my Teacher at the time, as she was the one who encouraged me to enter the competition, as she saw what great vocal and writing talent I possessed. After my first attempt in a competition and having placing first, there were other competitions that followed, where I received numerous medals and trophies.

Having finishing school and starting my job at TSTT, I entered their annual Calypso Competition, as well as, their bi annual Talent Show. From that, I had the oppor-tunity to meet with renowned entertainers and vocalists and they were all amazed of my talent and encouraged me to take it further. I am currently in pur-suit of a vocal trainer that would help me to enhance my vocal abilities. Thus far I have been assisting other vocalist with background vocals and performing in small events.

It would truly be a pleasure to take my singing a step further as it is on my ‘to do’ list. I am also very interested in being a part of a Soca band performing for large crowds for the Carnival Season. Even though my preferred genre would be R&B, I have noticed that I give a good rendition of groovy soca songs.

The hope is still alive to make a career out of singing and I intend on reaching that goal. I consider myself as an Artist with a love for music and the amity that it brings to ones’ soul. My desire is to create a harmony of hearts between my audi-ence and myself, while showing the greatness of T&T’s culture to the world.

'FASHION101 with Neicy: ‘BRINGING OUT THE FASHIONISTA IN YOU’

By: Nekisha Cyrus (NEICY)

So my fellow Fashionistas, Summer-time is over and now we’re moving on to new trends in the fash-

ion industry. Hope you all enjoyed it to the max, because I’m back with more helpful tips to assist

you all in becoming your own Trend-setter. Today’s tip in particular goes out to my ladies who find it

hard at times to define the line where Sexy ends and Trashy begins. Nothing is wrong with wanting

to feel and look ‘Sexy’, but most of the time we think that less is more, but is that really a fact??

BEING SEXY IS KEY – Let’s bring Sexy back, but we’re going to do it with a difference. There is a

myth out there that being sexy means you have to show more. Wrong!!! As said before it’s just a

myth. Sexy to me is simply dressing the way that makes you feel sexy, makes you feel beautiful,

and makes you feel like you’re IT!!! Emphasis being on YOU. There are days I feel my sexiest

when I’m just heading to class in a T-shirt and a jeans. Sexy isn’t about dressing to draw attention

to you (the wrong attention, I might add). Some believe that the more people are staring at you

means you’re looking great because you choose to leave nothing to the imagination…but really

some stares are made with the sub titles- What the hell was she thinking? Or Wow, chick got some

self-esteem issues…or just Seriously!!!

My personal motto is ‘Dress sexy but not vulgar; and always add a touch of class to your look’.

Feeling good overpowers looking good all the time. When u feel good, you look good and even if

you may not according to the standards of others, you still don’t care what people think. But you

can look good and feel bad, and it would show up in the end. Some tips I use when I’m dressing is

if I’m going to show some legs, then I balance it out by covering up on the top and verse vice.

NOTE to the Ladies- guys like the visual when it’s all out there, but they appreciate it more

when they’re left wondering. (Something to think about in the future)
