Village of Algonquin, Illinois – 2013/2014 Public Art Program Village of Algonquin Public Art Program – Year 2013/14 Artworks The artworks listed below will be on display at indoor and outdoor locations throughout the Village of Algonquin from November 2013 until October 2014. Please note the artwork reference letters in red and see the map on the back page of this brochure for display locations. A. Marcia Babler – “Lone Booth” – Photography [Archival Pigment Print] “This piece records the change in communication while creating a sense of isolation. The viewer is invited into the composition to experience the loneliness of change.” H. Marcia Babler – “Refresh” – Photography [Archival Pigment Print] “This piece is an abstraction of form and motion. Capturing a close-up of water, the blue and green dancing forms uplift and energize the viewer.” A. Jose Bolet – “Bird 1” and “Bird 2” – Painting On a multi-color background, a bird shows up from dripping paint. T. Jose Bolet – “Blue Bird” – Painting “The figure of a bird appears from dripping paint.” D. Don Elder – “T-Rex” – Sculpture [Steel] “The inspiration for this piece was born from steel and recycled farm equipment, as it seemed to want to become my beloved T-Rex.” U. Shari Fellows – “The Road of Friendship” – Photography “This photo is of Erin and her horse Reilly. They met when Reilly was two and have developed an inspiring relationship.” G. Shari Fellows – “Winter Oaks” – Photography “These beautiful oaks are on a horse farm in Spring Grove, IL. I love the shadows and orange glow from the setting sun.” I. Randi Goodman – “Inspired by Kandinsky #1” – Painting This piece is an “abstract watercolor using shapes found in a Kandinsky piece, but in a completely different color palette.” E. Randi Goodman – “Loved Ones” – Painting This piece is an “abstract watercolor, using templates and French Curves to create shapes. Also, an experiment with segmented layout, where each unit is a ‘mini painting’ unto itself.” S. Randi Goodman – “Triptych #1” – Painting This piece is an “abstract watercolor using templates and French Curves to create shapes. This triptych is an experiment using a limited color palette, something I rarely do.” D. Edward Iversen – “Wind” – Sculpture [Steel and Aluminum] “This 11-foot tall sculpture is made of steel and aluminum and powder coated black, gold, red, and white.” F. JoAnn Kennedy – “Checkered Past” – Painting “This piece was made using a grid system and an old quilt pattern. Ribbons of color were painted through the distorted pattern, and checks create a graphic twist.” O. JoAnn Kennedy – “Patriotic” – Painting “This graphic piece was influenced by Anusciewicz and Bridget Riley's works from the 1960s series of OP Art.” C. JoAnn Kennedy – “Twisted Sister” – Painting “I began with a distorted grid and a quilt pattern, adding rich color to draw the viewer into this piece. Metallic paints create a strong effect.” I. Diane Keys – “Rain” – Collage “I use found objects almost exclusively in my art. This is a collage made from items found on my daily travels.” C. Diane Keys – “Visual Poetry” – Collage “This is a visual poetry collage. It is intended to blur the line between text and art. The words are rearranged to create new meaning.” O. Kayleigh Kozlowski – “Colors of the Wind” – Photography “The sky isn’t always blue.” U. Kayleigh Kozlowski – “It’s not what you look at, it’s what you see” – Photography “Everyone needs a little brightness.” L. Kayleigh Kozlowski – “Stirring Artistry: Beauty in a Paint Can” – Photography “The unknown can be beautiful.” K. Lawrence Kozlowski – “Seasons from My Deck: Algonquin” – Photography “The beauty of variety is one of the reasons some of us choose to live in an area of multiple seasons.” G. Lawrence Kozlowski – “Tree Mend Us With Your Beauty” – Photography “When we look at trees as a generalization, we will probably miss the beauty of the details.” B. Doris Kucik – “Abandoned Barn” – Painting “A structure in Door County that had been deserted and had become overrun with undergrowth.” B. Doris Kucik – “Tattered Barn” – Painting “A dilapidated barn in Door County left to crumble from lack of use.” B. Doris Kucik – “Tranquility” – Painting “A beautiful May day in a forest preserve that left a sense of calmness.” P. Linda Lukachik – “A Crown of Roses” – Painting “Out driving and saw the old barn with the roses spoke to me.” P. Linda Lukachik – “Deserted Field” – Painting “On the road in Wisconsin, the field against the clouds sparked my imagination.” P. Linda Lukachik – “Three Sisters” – Painting “Sight-seeing in Oregon the Three Sisters Mountains intrigued me.” Q. Jeff Mendenhall – “Unstoppable Momentum” – Digital Graphics on Paper This piece “is a digital art work. It was created through the use of Corel Painter. The title comes from Joe Satriani's newest album.” M. Melissa Rasor – “Ecstatic” – Painting “My artwork is a huge part of my inner self. This piece is dealing with warmth, cycle of life, movement and energy.” L. Melissa Rasor – “Nectar” – Painting “My artwork is a huge part of my inner self. This piece is dealing with beginning, growth, femininity and strength.” R. Melissa Rasor – “Unseen Meadow” – Painting “My artwork is a huge part of my inner self. This piece is dealing with hidden beauty, nature, chaos and content.” Q. Dick Rehwaldt – “The Standoff” – Photography This piece depicts “Goose v. ‘Teddy’.” C. Deirdre Schanen – “A Summer Sound” – Painting “This painting is a golden, summer day with just a hint of a warm breeze gently caressing your body.” H. Deirdre Schanen – “Antique Reflection” – Painting “‘Antique Reflection’ was inspired by my mother’s presence in my childhood home after she died.” I. Deirdre Schanen – “Transformations” – Painting “‘Transformations’ is a fractured landscape of the Wisconsin countryside.” N. Barbara Sistak Baur – “The Bakery is Open” - Painting “Heavy impasto techniques evoke the textures that were inspired by the topic.” S. Barbara Sistak Baur – “Wish I Was Here” - Painting “A fun piece that reflects the sunshine and relaxation of a tropical beach.” H. Christina Warzecha – “Spires” – Sculpture [Clay] “Using slab-built earthenware, my intention is to discover ways for multiple clay pieces to interact in a cohesive manner, but in a way that leaves each individual component visible.”

Village of Algonquin Public Art Program – Year 2013/14 Artworks

The artworks listed below will be on display at indoor and outdoor locations throughout the Village of Algonquin from November 2013 until October 2014.

“This piece records the change in communication while creating a sense of isolation. The viewer is invited into the composition to experience the loneliness of change.”
