5 Ready… Set… Go! Are you back with a
case of the Spring Break Blues? Did you feel like you blinked and it was
over? As you and fellow friends file back into campus classrooms to complete the remainder of the
academic semester, many of you will question what steps need to be taken
to ensure you finish the semester successfully. How do you
mentally motivate yourself to refuel your motor of learning? How do you transition from being beachside in the Bahamas to
refreshing your focus to have your head return to being buried between the countless pages of textbooks like a bookmark? How do you concentrate when you hear the lullaby of laughing
outside the window of your classroom but you are expected to attentively and actively listen to lectures of learning? Well with
just 53 days (and counting) remaining in this semester, which for some is the final stretch of your undergraduate career, the answers to these and other questions
play an imperative part to just how strong you finish this semester. See page two (2) to see a list
of tried and triumphant tips that some
researchers had to advise.

“Getting Back to Business After Break” (continued)
THE 3 R’S Most researchers offer the opinion to review what has worked before spring break. Identify (and celebrate) what successes and what areas you need to strengthen to complete the semester successfully. Taking moments to acknowledge
and be proud of successes will only provide encouragement to those tasks that are ahead of you. The next step is to retire those habits and methods that have not brought you successful results.
For example, most of us know whether only studying right before an examination reaps positive results. That “special superpower” works only for a small percentage of people. Addressing this step often encourages and increases an individual’s ability to become more “reorganized;” particularly after tying up loose ends from incomplete projects before departing for spring break. Lastly, research suggests the need to resume ( pronounced re-zoom and not re-ze-may like your work experience document) what works. As the ancient saying goes, sometimes there is not a need to recreate the wheel or more commonly stated as “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Take the time to capitalize on your strengths and let it be the nucleus of energy to propel you through setting goals and accomplishing them.
Some other tips include:
Approach each day with a positive attitude.
Keep your eye on the prize with the goal to complete the spring semester with the strongest grades.
Develop/Examine time management skills and stay organized.
Be prepared to be challenged in your new classes, so think on your feet.
Don’t short change yourself with a lack of sleep.
There will be good days and bad days, so keep it in perspective and continue moving forward.
Plan time for fun with friends. Relaxation and rest are just as important as pushing yourself to achieve goals.
As the weather starts to warm, beware of spring fever. Be sure that you are not just physically present in a classroom, but mentally still on spring break or out enjoying the fun and sun.
