n June 2, the Class of 2013 celebrated the culmination of four fantastic years on top of the Hill. Much of the day followed tradition—the ceremony took place on Crane Field and the graduates wore long white gowns and carried bouquets of red roses. Katy Sadler delivered the commencement address, and valedictorian Tara Kawai-Daniels ’13 and salutatorian Lauren Kean ’13 also took turns at the podium. When asked to describe the Class of 2013, Sadler chose the following words: “Kind, joyous, inspirational,

“If my daughter can live an empowered life from a younger age, before age 18 – that is truly a gift of life. I think Sacred Heart gave that to my daughter.”

“I preach care by lending new boarding students my shoulder and sharing their sorrow. I comforted

the new boarding students who were homesick and had a hard time adjusting. I spoke about my

experience and shared my growth with them, which encouraged them.”

“I preach truth when I write meaningful articles for the school newspaper that have some kind of

message or purpose. I preach kindness when I help my friends with their homework and by treating

everyone with equal respect.”

“I preach by having a positive attitude and by being enthusiastic. Whenever I see a student that I do not know, I introduce myself to her in hopes of building a stronger sense of community and

sisterhood at FSHA.”

“I preach on the volleyball court during matches by cheering as loud as I possibly can for my teammates when they do something great and offering them a

high-five if they make a mistake. The support I feel on the court from my teammates and the great attitudes

everyone maintains are all a type of preaching.”
