Monthly general meetings were held online via the ACORN Board Room with two face to face meetings held in November 2014 and June 2015. Conference meetings were held monthly (alternate weeks to the general meeting). Over the past 12 months VPNG has been busy with Conference activities, seminars, education scholarships, Snippets production and redevelopment of VPNG. Each of these activities will be detailed in the report. 

 VPNG State Conference 30 & 31 July 2015  

 VPNG hosted a successful Conference ‘Strategies for Success: Quality and Safety in Perioperative Care’ which was held at the Pullman, Albert Park in Melbourne. The Conference was held over two days, and included a dinner on Thursday night.  Although final registrations for the event were lower than expected the event was a success.  I would like to thank all the VPNG nurses who supported the event, as well as our Trade Partners.  In particular I would like to thank Covidien, Platinum sponsor, who once again supported the dinner.  I would also like to thank Reveale Surgical, Silver sponsor, and Hartman and Johnson & Johnson, Bronze sponsor.  Special mention must be made about the all the medical companies who attended the event. Without their support we would not be able to host events of this magnitude.

to assist with the cost of their university fees. The recipients, Brylie Wilson, Tanya Noonan, Amanda O'Brien, Ngaire Carpenter, Paul Haas, Claraleis Van Der Gouw, Megan Tucker, Meriana Ledger, Chloe Templeton and Cassie Robinson, had the opportunity to have a photo taken with June following the awards ceremony, making it a truly memorable event for them.  Due to a large number of applications received for the postgraduate scholarships free registration to attend the Conference was offered to students who were not successful in their application. Jude Fennell shared special memories of her mother before awarding the Marea Fennell Education / Management Scholarship to Sasha Vedelsby who was completing her Mastered Degree.  

 The conference program included a number of presentations delivered by expert clinicians and delegates were spoilt for choice.  I would like to mention Pat McDermott, author of the much loved ‘Family Matters’, who presented the final session.  With her long term involvement of Juvenile Diabetes, in lieu of payment Pat requested a donation to be made to the organisation. A gold coin donation of $500 from the delegates was matched with VPNG donating $1000 to juvenile Diabetes.  A huge thank you to all the delegates for their generosity.  A second gold coin morning tea was held supporting Camp Quality, a group supported by the key note speaker Michael Crossland.  VPNG was able to donate $500 due to the generosity of the delegates.    VPNG Restructure The proposed restructure of VPNG presented during the AGM was received unanimously by VPNG members.  This presented the Committee with the opportunity to consider making changes, with succession planning considered to secure the group for the foreseeable future.  Since the AGM it has been a very busy year with the restructure of VPNG as a company incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001, which was achieved at the end of the year. This was an exciting outcome as VPNG was eligible to apply for Charitable Status which would include financial benefits for the group. On the 6th July 2016 I was informed by Michael Coker from Norton Gledhill that VPNG was registered as a Charity by the ACNC with retrospective effect.  I would like to thank the VPNG Director Jane Thomas, Gill Wheaton, Mary Kovess, Pauline Moore and Bec East for their support over the last 18 months as negotiations continued with Norton Gledhill lawyers.   A huge thank you is extended to the VPNG Committee for placing their trust in me as we moved forward with the restructure of the group. Special mention must be made of the members who voted in favour of the restructure.  I should also thank Michael Coker and James Hill from Norton Gledhill who assisted us throughout the process of becoming incorporated and achieving charitable status.  Without their guidance this process would have been very difficult for us to achieve.  The changes that have been made to the group brings greater security for VPNG and I am proud to have been a part of this move to becoming incorporated with charitable status.  We are still in the process of transferring the VPNG funds to new bank accounts and I have to commend Gill on her composure during what has been a rather tumultuous process.  Unfortunately despite multiple requests to members to transfer their membership to VPNG Inc. we are still chasing 48 members so that the old membership can be closed.  Once the finances and membership have been completed the old VPNG will officially be closed – a momentous event in the history of VPNG.          There was overwhelming support from the members when we explored changing the name of the group.  Most members indicated that they wanted us to remain as the Victorian Perioperative Nurses Group, a motion the committee was very willing to endorse.  We recently provided members with the opportunity to select the logo that best represented perioperative nursing in Victoria from three logos selected by the committee.  Changing the VPNG logo is a huge decision and it is not one I want to rush and regret later. The results from the poll, as well as emails received from members, were

taken into consideration at a recent general meeting.  Everyone agreed we need to go back to the drawing board.  It is planned for the logo to be launched before the 60th Anniversary in 2017.  Members will once again be provided with the opportunity to vote on their favour logo once we have selected one that best represents Victoria.        Education Seminars The last education event hosted last year included the seminar at St John of God, Warrnambool. The program was varied with topics relevant to regional Victoria. Living in a metropolitan area it is easy to forget the challenges our colleagues face when working in regional and rural Australia.  The success of this event reinforces the need for seminars to continue to be hosted in regional Victoria.   Following a brilliant program delegates and VPGN committee members enjoyed a beautiful lunch at the beach front before driving back to Melbourne.             Strategic Planning Meetings  During the first strategic planning meeting, which was held in November last year, the VPNG Inc. Constitution dominated the agenda as there are a number of matters that need to be reviewed.   While the focus of VPNG will continue to be providing education opportunities for the members, as well as continuing to provide scholarships for nurses completing postgraduate studies in Victoria, a review of the function of the group was necessary, including a review of the financial status. With the ever increase cost of hosting education events the budget set for 2016 is very tight, one we will manage to ensure the members get the best value for money when attending various events during the year.  In December this year we have engaged the services of Allen Blewitt, managing Director of Allen Blewitt & Associates, to facilitate the strategic planning meeting at the end of the year. After nearly 10 years as an Executive member of VPNG I believe we need assistance in developing the strategic direction of VPNG, in particular following the establishment of the new Company.  The Directors will be meeting the night before to review the issues that will be addressed during the planning meeting with Allen.  This will be the second time the Directors have met this year with the first meeting held prior to the first face to face meeting in June, during which we achieved some great outcomes.      The Biennial Country Conference, held at the Ballarat Bray Racecourse on the 5th March, was the first education event of the year. The program included a number of very interesting topics which focused on organ donation. Once again, despite keeping the registration fees low, we were disappointed with the number of delegates who attended the event.  Hosting future Country conferences will be topic discussed at the strategic planning meeting which is being held in December this year.   VPNG Study Day With the ACORN National Conference held in May this year a one day study day was planned by the Conference Committee for the 13 August at the Langham Hotel in lieu of a State Conference. The program includes a number of expert clinicians and I hope the delegates enjoy attending the event.  As always we depend on clinicians to present at events such as this one, and we are deeply grateful to them for offering up their weekend to present at the Study Day.   

 Editorial: Snippets Newsletter VPNG have continued to produce a quarterly newsletter, which was until recently mailed to all VPNG members, keeping them informed about the group and providing updates and other VPNG news.  An initiative taken this year to assist with the financial cost of providing the newsletter the recent publication was posted online for members and non‐members to access from the VPNG website.  It is

estimated we will save up to $15,000 per year on printing and postage with the changes that has been made. Changes have also been implemented to assist with the editing of the newsletter, a process that will be reviewed at the end of year strategic planning meeting. I would like to acknowledge the commitment of Judy Zach in collating the items for the newsletter, ensuring the newsletter is produced each quarter.    VPNG Website and Social Media Because the website is the official forum representing VPNG it was redevelop to provide a more ‘user friendly’ site for members to access information. The website is a work in progress with plans to develop the history of VPNG and other items of interest for the group.  VPNG has a large number of followers on Facebook and we would like to encourage members to continue to post questions or comments to initiate conversations about perioperative practice. Debee Thow accepted taking on Chair of the website last year.  She is to be commended on her resourcefulness and spirit with which she has taken on this portfolio and I look forward to seeing more developed of the website.  We are exploring online membership and registration for events, to streamline the process.  The cost and other factors to be taken into consideration are currently being reviewed with the November renewals to be the first step in the process.    Education Committee  The Education Committee, under the leadership of Kerry Schroder, have done a fantastic job processing the grants each year so that the scholarships can be awarded at the Conference. Development of the seminar programs are included in the education portfolio with details about the next event provided in a flyer included in the conference bags.  La Trobe will be hosting the event in October and I hope it will be well supported.  

 VPNG General Business ANMF to be notified when transition of members completed. We will no longer be a Special Interest Group of the ANMF.  ACORN receives $28 per member per year. A letter was sent by VPNG to ACORN for some financial support for the cost of the VPNG restructure. We were assured that we would receive some financial support. Following further clarification a letter was received saying that ACORN was unable to support us in a monetary way, but were happy to offer a loan. The Committee will discuss this further.  VPNG Office Raechel Richards, VPNG Administration Officer, continues to run the office working two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday) with additional hours available to allow her to deal with the increasing workload that has resulted from the increased membership.  Raichel’s support of VPNG is evident and I thank her for managing the office and supporting me as President of the group.  I must mention the beautiful artwork that is produced by Dale Parker. He responses to emails late at night and is able to produce the artwork even when ridiculous timelines are set because I have been too busy to keep him informed about what is required. A huge thank you to Dale for his continued support of VPNG.       I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the perioperative nurses who continue to support VPNG. Your membership is important in continuing our endeavor to promote perioperative nursing in Victoria.

I would like to thank VPNG committee members for their time, commitment and hard work. Many of the committee are employed full‐time so, being on the committee requires a huge commitment and sacrifice to be made to ensure the ongoing success of the group.  We have a lot of work ahead with the 60th anniversary State Conference on the 3rd and 4th August 2017 at the grand Hyatt.  We have already stated the planning with huge celebrations included in the program.  This is an event not to be missed. I will be stepping down as President of the group after six years.  I do feel that this is the right time for me to step aside and hand over the presidency to Jane Thomas.  The foundations of the new group will have been laid and new leadership is required for the future direction of the group.  It is an exciting time with a younger generation taking on leadership roles.  I will be watching with interest.      I would like to take this opportunity to thank the VPNG Directors for their incredible support and encouragement, as well as the Committee and Administration Officer for their commitment, support and hard work without which my role as President would be so much more difficult. As I reflect on the last 12 months I cannot believe the progress we have made.  As stated by Hendry Ford ‘Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success’.    My grateful thanks to everyone for supporting my position as the leader of VPNG.

VPNG HONORARY TREASURER’S ANNUAL REPORT 2015    A brief overview of the activities undertaken during 2015:  

Monthly Profit & Loss Statements, Budgeted Profit and Loss Reports and Actual Balance Sheet reports continue to be presented to the VPNG committee at monthly meetings. 

 

VPNG accounts have been audited for the year ended 31 December 2015 by McLaren Buzolich O’Keefe Pty Ltd, Certified Practicing Accountants, 67Kepler Street, Warrnambool, Victoria 3280.

ACORN AGM Report 2016 

Pauline Moore ‐ ACORN Director Victoria  ACORN has seen some significant changes in the last twelve months. In February 2015 the Board and LA Presidents came together and developed a four‐year strategic plan to move the college forward, which the executive Officer Wendy Rowland has continued to drive and develop. The key priority areas that were identified include   1. Developing the Organization 2. Consolidating and expanding services to members  3. Strengthening partnerships and collaboration 4. Leadership and advocacy 5. Increasing and diversifying financial support   The progress of these 5 key priority areas have been addressed by Wendy in the ACORN annual report which can be found on the ACORN website. These areas will continue to be developed and will be reviewed again in 2018.  After consultation and feedback from the members, the board has been able to with the guidance of Associations Forum and consultation with the LA presidents revised and make the necessary adjusts to the ACORN constitution to move ACORN into the future.  Some of these changes include the rewording of the ACORN from “Australian College of Operating Room Nurses” to “Australian College of Perioperative Nurse “. By making this change it encompasses the diverse range of roles that make up the perioperative team.  Another significant change the ACORN has made in the past twelve months is the change is to the ACORN brand (Logo) it was conducted with consultation with the members that allowed them to have input to the process. The board reviewed comments and suggestions by members from all over Australia and it was clear that the members wanted a change and that it was time to take ACORN into the future with a new look. ACORN did not want the past 40 years to go by without honoring the contribution of the past board and members that have bought ACORN to this point. This will be addressed in the form of a special edition of an ACORN Journal acknowledging the past 40 years which will come together under the guidance of Victoria’s Carollyn Williams, this year’s ACORN JCO.  With the changes to the logo, we have seen a fresh new look to the ACORN journal and recently the release of the new ACORN Standards at the ACORN Conference in Hobart in May.  This year ACORN and University of Tasmania entered an agreement that has allowed ACORN members to study at a postgraduate level HECS free. In return ACORN has provided input into the curriculum that aligns closely with the current ACORN standards. This agreement has seen over 300 ACORN members apply for and receive free postgraduate studies in perioperative nursing.  The ACORN journal is continuing to grow with the quality of excellent papers that are being published with each journal; they are proving to be a great read and an excellent resource for all our members. The webinar’s are also proving to be an excellent source of education that our members are defiantly utilizing all over Australia. This has meant the on most occasions our Educator Dr Paula Foran has had to increase the capacity of numbers to cater for the interest that the webinars have generated. Dr Foran not only offers education on the current standards that are being reviewed but has also expanded the content of the webinars to address areas of interest due to feedback that was received by the members.

The Education and Research committee have continued to assist members that have applied for grants for education and research and have continued to review and accredit several courses. The Excellence in Perioperative Nursing award was awarded to our very own Dr Pat Nicholson. This year saw the introduction of additional awards that included Novice award and Team award which were awarded to exceptional recipients for their contribution to perioperative nursing.  The ACORN Conference was in May this year that was attended by a total of 1062 delegates, which included 160 newcomers and 106 international delegates. Victoria was well represented with 248 in total that attended the conference. I hope that everyone that did come down to Hobart enjoyed the experience.   The new ACORN Standards were released at the ACORN conference in May with many members taking the opportunity to purchase the standards at the new price. Congratulations to everyone involved in the development of such a valuable resource for all our members. The new Perioperative Nursing textbook was also released at the conference and is another excellent resource for all perioperative nurses.  The next ACORN conference will be held in Adelaide in 2018 and will be held in conjunction with the ASIORNA conference. So now is the time to start planning to attend a great educational event in a beautiful city and embrace the opportunity to network with many like‐minded professionals.  This year’s celebration of Perioperative Nurses week is currently being developed. A committee has been bought together to ensure it will be well celebrated and acknowledged throughout Australia.  In November this year I will hand over the ACORN Director role to Rebecca East who I know will represent Victoria with pride on the ACORN board and I wish her well.  In November I will be stepping off the VPNG committee to devote some time to my very understanding family who have allowed me to pursue my passion for perioperative nursing by being on the VNPG committee. I have really enjoyed the past 7 years and I feel honored and privilege to have had the opportunity to represent Victoria on the ACORN board. I would especially like to thank Dr Pat Nicholson for her dedication to the VPNG committee, for staying on to help guide the committee through some trying times over the last twelve months. She is an inspiration to all perioperative nurses and we are extremely lucky that she is educating our future perioperative nurses. I am truly grateful to have worked alongside Pat and the rest of the committee over the past 7 years.  Move: Patricia Flood Seconded: Judy Zach                                                                                                                                            8. Election of Ordinary Members of Committee     No nominations received.   9.  Other Business      No items for discussion.        Close of Meeting at 4.05pm

Monthly general meetings (except June 2017) were held online via the ACORN Board Room, with two face to face Strategic Planning meetings held in December 2016 and June 2017.  Conference meetings were held monthly (alternate fortnight to the General Meeting).  The agenda, minutes and all Chair reports were submitted a week prior to each meeting to facilitate discussion and keep the meeting to time (meeting duration 2 hours).  

 

Over the past 12 months the VPNG Committee has been very busy coordinating the 60th Anniversary Conference, completing the redevelopment of VPNG, including marketing; planning seminars, education scholarships and Snippets production.  Each of the VPNG activities will be detailed in the report.

VPNG Restructure Following the restructure of VPNG as a Company incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001, achieved in 2015, we were notified of Charitable Status on the 6th July 2016. I would like to thank Michael Coker and James Hill from Norton Gledhill lawyers for their guidance and support during this complex process and for assisting us in achieving the outcomes set as a strategic goal of VPNG.     All VPNG funds have been transferred to the new Company with final details still being negotiated with the bank, a task allocated to Gill Wheaton. After multiple attempts to transfer members to the new Company, including multiple phone call and emails, I am pleased to announce that all VPNG members were successfully transferred to VPNG Ltd with no loss of members during the process! The ‘old VPNG’ membership has officially been closed and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (Vic Branch) have been notified of the disaffiliation of VPNG as a Special Interest Group.  VPNG continues to collaborate with ANMF on any matters relating to Perioperative Nursing in Victoria.       With the decision to remain the ‘Victorian Perioperative Nurse Group’ a new logo was required disaffiliating from ANMF, as well as the need to develop a fresh new look for the Group.  Jane Thomas and I met with a graphic designer after the 2016 AGM to discuss rebranding of the Group.  After viewing a number of options a palette of colours and designs were developed for the Committee to review.  The final branding of VPNG was selected after consultation with a number of VPNG members.  This was an exciting outcome as we were able to commence with ordering marketing items required for all education events.  With the marketing items ordered in time for the 60th Anniversary I am really proud to see the branding of the Group and I hope that everyone will agree that this is a great ‘new look’ for VPNG.      

Another development for the Group has included selecting a program for online membership registration, as well as Conference registration. Although we are still experiencing minor glitches with the program it has been exciting to see the end result of the hard work of those involved.  I would like to thank Debee Thow, Jane Thomas and Raechel Richards for their commitment to completing the ground work, and selecting and establishing the online program.  Further refinement of the program will be undertaken with the aim of removing all gremlins so that future online registrations are managed better.    Strategic Planning Meetings  Members of the VPNG Committee attended a Strategic Planning Meeting, which was held at Deakin University in December last year. Allen Blewitt, Managing Director of Allen Blewitt & Associates, facilitated the day which was considered a huge success by those who attended. Four major areas identified as priorities were used to guide the planning day. These four areas are: 1.  Membership engagement / services  2.  Education and Training  3.  Advocacy / Standards / Alliances 4.  Marketing and Communication   With a number of outcomes suggested by the various working groups on the day it was the responsibility of the VPNG Committee to develop a three‐year plan, with measurable outcomes to becoming a new more modern specialty nursing professional group. A second Strategic meeting was held in June this year with the discussion centred on the incoming Committee and the strategic direction of the group.  This was guided by the plan developed in December with another Strategic

Planning meeting scheduled for November 2017. The Directors met the night each Strategic planning meeting before at my house to discuss and plan the agenda for the following day.  While these meeting are a requiredment for ASIC we all found them to be invaluable and very productive.  Conference Committee With the ACORN Biennial Conference held in May 2016 VPNG hosted a one day study day ‘Together Towards Tomorrow’ which was held at the Langham, Melbourne on the 13 August 2016. We had 216 registrations for the event, including 22 nurses who joined VPNG on the day. The Conference program included a number of presentations delivered by expert clinicians and I would like to thank all of them for offering up their Saturday and supporting our event. The venue was superb with the catering exceeding expectations and I am deeply grateful for assistance that was provided by the staff at the Langham in hosting such a great event.     Nine students were awarded a Sr Mary Felix / June Allen Postgraduate Scholarship during the Scholarship Awards ceremony.  These Scholarships are offered to students to assist with the cost of their university fees and VPNG is proud to be able to continue providing financial support. The recipients were presented with their scholarship certificate and VPNG gift prior to having a photo taken with June Allen. The successful recipients were: Linda Dalziel, Jenna‐Maree Carter, Megan McKenzie, Lisa Willoughby, Paegan Mestrom, Ellie Clements, Angela Gray, Nixon Jose and Victoria Gallagher. On behalf of the VPNG Directors and Committee I would like to congratulate all the students and wish them everything of the very best as they complete their studies and continue their career in perioperative nursing.  

 Preparing for the 60th State Conference has been the focus of the Conference Committee over the past 12 months with many long hours devoted to planning this special event.  As Conference Convener I cannot remember ever devoting so many hours to an event and I hope that we have a successful Conference and that all VPNG Members will feel proud to be part of such a great professional group.     Education Committee  The Education Committee, under the leadership of Kerry Schroder, does an amazing job each year processing the grants so that the scholarships can be awarded at the Conference / Study Day. Scholarships will once again be awarded at the Conference to the successful applicants. Plans are already underway for the 2018 Country Conference, to be held in Echuca. I hope this event will be well supported.      Education Seminars The last education event scheduled for the year was planned for La Trobe. Unfortunately this event had to be cancelled due to low registrations. In March this year VPNG hosted a very successful Seminar in Bendigo.  We were overwhelmed with the response received and for the first time since my terms in office we were unable to accept all registrations due to the seating capacity of the venue. The Bendigo Seminar was a huge success with great program organised by Dee Lahn‐Opie, and the hard work of the VPNG Committee behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly.      Editorial: Snippets Newsletter VPNG have continued to produce a quarterly newsletter with the move to an online versions in 2016.  With the assistance of the designer we have been able to produce a more contemporary newsletter with future plans to include content such as heathy eating and living.  Judy is retiring after 10 years on the Committee and I would like to acknowledge her commitment to VPNG, in particular her role in

collating the newsletter each quarter.  I am pleased to announce that Helen Parr, a new Committee member, will be taking over this role in producing the newsletter with continued support from me.   VPNG Website and Social Media With the massive amount of attention required in setting up the online registration, it has become apparent that the website platform is no longer adequate.  Because the website is the official platform for all VPNG business a decision has been made to undertake a complete redevelopment of the website and shut the old one down.  This will allow us to develop the history of VPNG and other items of interest on a website that is user friendly and more contemporary.       VPNG has a large number of followers on Facebook, thanks to Debee Thow and Kerry Schroder.  I encourage all members to continue to post questions or comments to initiate conversations about perioperative practice. I would like to thank Debee for her commitment to the website Chair role.   Her resourcefulness and spirit with which she has taken on this portfolio has been amazing.      VPNG Office Raechel Richards, VPNG Administration Officer, continues to run the office working two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday) with additional hours available to allow her to deal with the increasing workload that has resulted from the increased membership.    The importance of the various nursing roles in the operating suite should never be underestimated therefore, I would like to thank all nurses who provide perioperative nursing care to patients presenting for surgery.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all perioperative nurses who continue to support VPNG. Your membership is important in continuing our endeavor to promote perioperative nursing education in Victoria.    I would like to thank VPNG Committee members for their time, commitment and hard work over the past year. Many of the committee are employed full‐time so, being a Committee member does require a huge commitment to be made to ensure the ongoing success of the group.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the VPNG Directors for their incredible support and encouragement, as well as their commitment, support and hard work without which my role as President would have been so much more difficult. Special thanks to my family who have lived with VPNG for so many years and tolerated the many week days and weekend I have been ‘missing in action!’   As many of you are aware I will be stepping down as President after six years.  I feel that it is the right time for me to step aside and hand over the presidency. One of the challenges facing a leader is knowing when it is time to move on.  It is not a problem when a leader fails as they either get little hints that it’s time to leave or they get pushed out! It is a problem when a leader is respected.  With no one to tell them that it is time to leave they are required to rely on their own judgement to decide when it is time to step down.  The foundation of the new Group has been laid and new leadership is required for the future direction of the group.  This is an exciting time for VPNG.   My grateful thanks to everyone for supporting my position as the leader of VPNG over the past six year but as the walrus said: ‘the time has come…………’ (Lewis Carroll, Through the looking glass)

ACORN AGM Report 2017 REBECCA EAST ‐ ACORN Director, Victoria 

 Following the ACORN constitution change in 2016, the newly elected Board have been exceptionally busy continuing to strengthen the College and provide the members with a diverse range of opportunities.  The 2018 Conference is less than 12 months away and will see ACORN and ASIORNA delegates congregate to the beautiful city of churches, Adelaide. Calls for abstracts have commenced and I urge those members considering presenting a paper or poster to do so, it’s a wonderful professional opportunity and achievement.  The Australian Journal of Perioperative Nursing continues to strengthen its content and provide a fantastic benefit to our members. Soon we will see the journal become electronic, with ACORN purchasing an online journal platform. The 40‐year Commemorative journal was a wonderful reflection on our past 40 years. We certainly have come a long way as a college and if it were not for the countless volunteers who every 2 years elect to volunteer their time on the Board we would not be where we are today. I trust you all enjoyed the journal and have requested your hard copy should you wish for a copy.   The Standards continue to be developed and reviewed. Set for a new release in 2018 at the Conference, the standards committee will be ramping up their roles to ensure the most up to date research is reflected in the new version. To accompany the standards in 2018 will be the release of practice audit tools that can be purchased for staff assessment. A workshop will be run at the Conference to support the members who purchase them.   The Education opportunities continue to thrive with webinars being delivered every month. The UTAS scholarships continue to be taken up by the members to further develop their knowledge and progress their pathways in perioperative nursing. 2017/2018 will see some further educational grants and scholarships are available for members to apply for. These include conference grants, an international and laser safety scholarships. The support of perioperative research is also delivered in the way of a $20,000 grant available annually. Congratulations to Dr Sonya Osborne on the successful application for 2017.  The Surgical Hand Antisepsis, gloving and gowning DVD is currently in the process of being revamped. We anticipate this being released and ready for purchase for a small fee later this year.   A relationship with ANSELL saw a large amount perioperative nurses being nominated for the ANSELL H.E.R.O award. A fantastic opportunity for our members to acknowledge their colleagues, and congratulations to Lisa Kiddle who won the award with over 5000 votes. Lisa has founded AUSNEP, a charity that provides free surgical and dental procedures for rural and remote residents in Nepal.   Perioperative Nurse Week was an absolute hoot in 2016 and is shaping up to be bigger and better in 2017. Tracy Nicholls the member Director and MLAC Chair has some amazing ideas for celebrating our profession. I hope, like last year you will all embrace the week. Tracy’s committee is also responsible for the excellent member benefits you as a member can access. These membership benefits include Elsevier book discounts and corporate Qantas club discount. The committee is also looking into providing members with specific perioperative nursing professional indemnity insurance. These member benefits and others can be found on our website.  The development of the PCC committee has seen the college develop and strengthen closely with the national authorities and like colleges. This relationship assists our members from a professional and industrial perspective and is great to see the college grow in the associations’ world.   The remainder of my term will be a busy one and May 2018 will be here before we know it. VPNG will commence planning for the next Director in November at our face‐to‐face meeting. I would like to take 

this opportunity to encourage our members to consider joining the VPNG committee. It’s an amazing opportunity to help further develop perioperative nursing in not only Victoria but nationally. Not only do you get to represent your colleagues and specialty, the friendships you make along the way are truly special.
