Introduction
Today, in the construction industry, the implementation of concrete structures due to the
presence of more conditions and privileges than other structures, have a higher priority.
With the advancement of technology in the present age and the existence of diverse methods
in the manufacture of high strength concrete, also existence of various ways in designing these
structures, such as the Cobiax, Uoboot, Post Tension, and so on systems, to build structures
with large openings, more buildings with this structure system to be made. For this reason,
most calculations are in the group of concrete structure.
Due to the type of output format provided by the Etabs program and its transformation into
structural drawing, civil engineer may encounter a series of specific problems.
Therefore, in order to achieve the appropriate results from the Etabs program and reduce hu-
man error, several applied software have been developed to manage the output of this pro-
gram and convert them into executable maps.
In this regard, the engineering department of "Saze Tarsim" has been able to produce software
called "SazeTarsim - Etabs Assistant in Concrete Structural Drawing" after several years of
endless effort.
This software has been fully tested by our team in a variety of fields, such as entering infor-
mation from the Etabs program, converting them to reinforcement rebar and other features
provided by this program.
"Saze Tarsim" group hope this software will be used by engineers.

Some of software features
Import the outputs of Etabs program to the software, includes file with E2K extension,
all output files of beam elements, columns elements and shear walls.
Import multiple output design file from beam elements, column and shear wall and
determine maximum of data by application.
View all model information such as the number and length of elements, column di-
mensions, area of flexural rebar, shear and torsion, complete specifications of shear
wall such as the flexural stress, shear rebar, pier label, pier section, type of wall design
and the boundary element length.
Top speed in entering output information of Etabs to software and display data in
software environment.
Top speed in calculation of reinforcement rebar of beams.
User-friendly graphical environment with the ability to move and zoom by mouse.
Display columns and shear walls type plan.
Display beam’s reinforcement rebar plan with procedural issues.
Consider or ignore the longitudinal and torsional rebar area in calculations.
Consider the effects of frame ductility in calculation of beam reinforcement rebar.
Round area of beam reinforcement rebar to desired value.
Consider or ignore the columns attached to the shear wall in typing columns plan.
Automatically calculate the minimum flexural rebar in concrete beam sections with
procedural issues.
Import combined rebar in beam sections (using two different size).
Provide tie plan for beams based on the requirements and rules related to minimum
and maximum distances ties at the end and middle of the beam.
Calculate rebars’ overlap length table and apply results in software calculations.
Edit results of the rebars’ overlap length table, by the user.

Set a variety of beam reinforcement rebars, by the user.
Edit section of beams and columns and create new section (modify the size of rebars)
and assign it to the relevant elements.
Consider middle hook for rebars of column sections, base on regulation rules.
Produce Listufer table of consumed rebars in beams, columns and shear walls (with or
without overlap length of rebars) and consumed concrete volume, for each story, as a
pdf file.
Provide print from of all the information provided in software as a pdf file.
Export all drawings produced in software to Autocad. The drawings are as follows:
Draw beam section plan, beam reinforcement rebar and tie plan of all floors,
column and shear wall plan. (The application is able to draw beam plan, column
plan in steel structure.)
Draw columns profile based on rules of regulations.
Draw beams profile based with all relevant details.
Recognize the half-story beams and draw columns profiles considering the spe-
cial ties rules.
Recognize the absence of beam in story level and combine floors together on the
basis of regulations.
Draw beam and column sections with all relevant details.
Draw shear wall sections.
Compatible with various versions of AutoCAD program.
Compatible with various versions of Etabs program.

Special Tips on using the software
Before extracting Etabs output, use option "Auto Relabel all" to sort numbering of
elements. This is important, when the user wants to use multiple output design files.
During modeling process of files including shear wall, pay attention that column and
shear wall connected to it, have the similar pier.
If user make changes in sections of elements, he must extract the file with E2K extension
and import it to this software again.
To achieve desired results, it is recommended that all program “O/S” errors have been
resolved before exporting output files from Etabs.
User must avoid from dividing the column to several parts.
Recommended to print maps, after opening the window "Plot-Model" window, do the
following settings:
Set all available colors in this map to single-color "monochrome.ctb" (Black)
Set thickness of all lines(Line weight) to 0.100mm.
To display AutoCAD drawings of software, do the following command in AutoCAD:
Command : Zoom All
To use this software set language of your windows to English, as following:
Control Panel Clock, Language and Region Region

In this part, to learn more about different parts of the software and their performance, an ex-
planation has been provided. The software is designed so the user can easily have access to all

In the figure below, the most important toolbar of program is displayed. The user can enter all
required information by existing icons in this toolbar ,then runs the software, primary results
are visible in the screen. One of the most important icons in the software, the Autocad icon, is
located in this toolbar. By selecting this icon in short time, structural maps are produced. The
remarkable thing is that, the structure maps are editable in Autocad software.

Objects Present In View
By this icon, the user can enable or disable one or more options from the list as required. The
important tip in this software is that program can automatically do gridding process independ-
ent of the grid system defined in Etabs.Also the software is able to detect deck and slab floor.
If the roof type is introduced as Ramp the software will not be able to display it.

Object View Options
By this icon, the user can select each option individually from the list. By existent options in
this list, the user can see all outputs designed by the program. In the figure below, list of all
available features is shown.

Beams Design Section
By this icon, the user can see a list of beams sections with full information about them such as
section properties, design information ,beam section preview, ... .
Software can automatically type beams sections (software assigns ‘Rib’ section to elements
with ‘Null’ section, Rib sections does not include in typing).
The program calculates minimum of flexural rebar for section based on dimensions of the sec-
tion and rules of regulation. In longitudinal flexural rebars, user can use combination of rebars.
If user makes any changes to section properties, he must press ‘save’ button.

Assign New Section to Beam
By this icon, the user can create a new section from existing beam sections, changes it’s rein-
forcement and assigns it to beam. User should note that, the new section should be similar to
the previous beam section in dimensions. Otherwise, an error message will appear.

Columns Design Section
By this icon, the user can see a list of columns sections with full information about them such
as section properties, design information, number and type of bars, column section preview ...
Software can automatically type columns and also draw middle hooks by controlling pure dis-
tance between longitudinal rebars based on rules of regulation.
If the user makes any changes to characteristics of section, he must press ‘save’ button.

Assign New Section to Column
By this icon, the user can create a new section from existing beam sections, changes it’s rein-
forcement and assigns it to beam. User should note that, the new section should be similar to
the previous beam section in dimensions. Otherwise, an error message will appear.

Shear wall Sections
By this icon, the user can see the profile of shear walls. The software is able to calcu-
late size and space between horizontal rebar based on the horizontal rebar area.
In design information section, if any of the values of allowable flexural stress or
shear rebar is out of range, the software automatically shows the value in red color.
Note: for drawing shear wall structure by this software, modeling of wall should be
done by “SD Section" in Etabs program.

Method of shear wall drawing in Etabs program
For drawing shear wall executive structure via software, the user must act according to the
pattern shown in the figure above in Etabs program.
In the definition of shear wall section in Etabs, using the option "Start from Existing
Wall Pier", the framework of shear wall section will be produced. Then by right click in-
side the created polygon, delete available reinforcement using the option "Reinforce-
ment: No”. Now for reinforcement of shear wall section ,follow below instructions:
Parts of the shear wall which require special tie, such as boundary element areas,
reinforcement should be of type "RECT REBAR".
Parts of shear walls that don’t require special tie, reinforcement should be of type
"LINE REBAR".

Set Design Parameters
By this icon, the user can adjust all design parameters in application environment. To return to
original settings, use "Default settings" button.

Rebar Development Length table
In this section, according to procedural relations, the development length table is provided for
variable size rebars based on to their location. User can change the parameters of develop-
ment length and click on the "ReCalculation" button, data of table will be updated. Also user
can edit values of table manually by pressing “Modify Calculation” button. Program can auto-
matically maximize between results of this table and experimental relations.

Hook Development Length Table
In this section, for rebars with different size, hook development length, radius of curvature and
standard hook is calculated. The user, can change the parameters of hook development length
and click on the option "ReCalculation”, data of table will be updated. Also user can edit values
of table manually by pressing “Modify Calculation” button.

Settings Of AutoCAD File
When click on the icon "ExportToAutoCad", the following window opens and the user can ap-
ply desired setting.User can generate AutoCAD plan from each drawing included in the soft-
ware independently through the "Export Current Drawing to AutoCAD" button.
It is important to note that, if user makes any changes in program's default values, he must
first save changes before export AutoCAD plans.

Quick method of using software
1. At first input files of the software should be extracted from Etabs program. These files
include:
Input file with E2K extension from Etabs program

4. At this point, by clicking icon (Start Design), process of designing reinforcement rebars
is done by software.
5. Finally, by clicking on the icon (Export To AutoCAD), structural map is generated
by software.
