Welcome to Resurrection!

W e extend a warm welcome to each one present. As we unite together in worship, may we experience together

the grace and mercy of our God through his life-giving Word and sacraments. Guests, below is some information that may help us host you well in the Lord’s house. Please let us know if we can assist you in any way. Visitor Information

W orship at Resurrection Lutheran Church follows the historic liturgy of the Church. Our worship service is

designed to give our Savior thanks for the salvation He won for us. Lutheran worship is really a conversation between God and his people. He speaks to us in His Word; we praise Him and respond to Him in song. We confess our sins and needs; He provides the forgiveness Jesus accomplished at the cross, and helps us with our individual needs.

W orship will follow the service folder, guiding us in our dialogue with the Lord. Feel free to participate at whatever level you are comfortable. Where indicated you

will find some of the hymns and psalms in the Christian Worship hymnal (the red book under your chair.) Whenever the words are printed in bold, the congregation is welcome to join in responding or singing. May God bless us as we place Him at the center of our worship.

Bathrooms: Down the main hall, across from the drinking fountains.

Leader: We give you thanks, O Lord, for the foretaste of the heavenly banquet that you have given us to eat and to drink in this sacrament. Through this gift you have fed our faith, nourished our hope, and strengthened our love. By your Spirit help us to live as your holy people until that day when you will receive us as your guests at the wedding supper of the Lamb, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. People: Amen. Blessing Numbers 6:24-26 Leader: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and + give you peace. All: Amen. CLOSING HYMN: 747 There Is A Redeemer (please find this on the back page) After a beautiful summary of Jesus’ work of salvation on earth and our hope of heaven, the focus of this contemporary hymn is its refrain, which reminds us of the fit of the Holy Spirit to strengthen us in the work the ascended Jesus still gives us to do.

Please be seated ON COMMUNING The Bible teaches that communing together signifies a oneness in faith, life and worship (1 Cor. 10:16-17). Reception of the Lord's Supper by Christians not fully united with us would imply a oneness which does not yet exist and for which we must all pray. It would be unloving of us as a congregation to invite visitors to the Lord’s table. We would not be so presumptuous as to make any visitor take a stand with our doctrine and practice without first providing opportunity to explore the Bible's teachings with them.(1 Cor. 11:27-29). Our pastor would be happy to explore this unity with you, on the basis of God's Word, so that you might commune with us in the future. OPENING OF THE TRIPTYCH AND WELCOME OPENING HYMN: 171 A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing (in the red book under your chair) This traditional hymn for the Festival of the Ascension is over 1,000 years old and mightily narrates the biblical account of Jesus’ ascension, which moves us to bring forth our alleluias and praises to him.

Leader: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. CONFESSION Leader: Dear friends, let us approach God with a true heart and confess our sins, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us. All: Lord of life, I confess that I am by nature dead in sin. For faithless worrying and selfish pride, For sins of habit and sins of choice, For the evil I have done and the good I have failed to do, You should cast me away from your presence forever. O Lord, I am sorry for my sins. Forgive me, for Jesus’ sake. ABSOLUTION Leader: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. In his great mercy, God made us alive in Christ even when we were dead in our sins. Hear the world Christ through his called servant:

I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Sprit. People: Amen. LORD, HAVE MERCY Mark 10:47 Kyrie Leader: In peace, let us pray to the Lord.

Strengthen us through Christ’s body and blood, and preserve us in the true faith until we feast with him and all his ransomed people in glory everlasting. People: Amen. THE WORD

FIRST LESSON: ESTHER 6:1-14 NIV 1That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him. 2 It was found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. 3 “What honor and recognition has Mordecai received for this?” the king asked. “Nothing has been done for him,” his attendants answered. 4 The king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the palace to speak to the king about impaling Mordecai on the pole he had set up for him. 5 His attendants answered, “Haman is standing in the court.” “Bring him in,” the king ordered. 6 When Haman entered, the king asked him, “What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?” Now Haman thought to himself, “Who is there that the king would rather honor than me?” 7 So he answered the king, “For the man the king delights to honor, 8 have them bring a royal robe the king has worn and a horse the king has ridden, one with a royal crest placed on its head. 9 Then let the robe and horse be entrusted to one of the king’s most noble princes. Let them robe the man the king delights to honor, and lead him on the horse through the city streets, proclaiming before him, ‘This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!’” 10 “Go at once,” the king commanded Haman. “Get the robe and the horse and do just as you have suggested for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Do not neglect anything you have recommended.” 11 So Haman got the robe and the horse. He robed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the city streets, proclaiming before him, “This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!” 12 Afterward Mordecai returned to the king’s gate. But Haman rushed home, with his head covered in grief, 13 and told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. His advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, “Since Mordecai, before whom your downfall has started, is of Jewish origin, you cannot stand against him—you will surely come to ruin!” 14 While they were still talking with him, the king’s eunuchs arrived and hurried Haman away to the banquet Esther had prepared.

Please Stand GOSPEL LESSON & SERMON TEXT: LUKE 24:44-53 NIV Leader: The Gospel according to Luke chapter 24. People: Glory be to you, O Lord. 44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” 45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” 50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God. Leader: This is the Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise be to you, O Christ.

We have laid up our love and our treasure above, Though our bodies continue below. The redeemed of the Lord shall remember His Word, And with singing to paradise go. Hallelujah! we sing to our Father and King, And His rapturous praises repeat: To the Lamb that was slain, Hallelujah again! Sing all Heaven and fall at His feet! NICENE CREED

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father.

Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven,

was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen. Please be seated OFFERING COLLECTION As the offering is collected, please take this time to greet one another. Also, sign the Friendship registers—the red books found in the center aisles. After you leave record of your worship, please pass it along the entire aisle. If there is any additional way that we can serve you, please let us know. Thank you!
