I hate change! The word “Hate” is rather strong, but I do not use it lightly! As a Global

learner that is in a constant state of ideas and possibilities, I count on the Analytical style

learners to organize and make sense of life. I count even more on the few routines I do

have, to tether this Macy’s Day balloon to the ground so when those strings are loosened

or broken I have a difficult time. I recognize we need each others variety of gifts and

graces to make the village, family, church successful, so when change occurs it takes a

team to maneuver the rippling effects and to keep the boat steady? Let me mention two

things and you can add your own changes to the list. They changed the day of our gar-

bage pick-up at our home/church from Friday to Wednesday. Seems trivial, but when we

have sometimes up to seven (7) cans of trash and recycling from church activities it takes

preparation and a little effort to gather things together. When you don’t know of the

change and the trash is already on the curb and is not picked up -now it becomes a

health and racoon concern, and the next week there is another three (3) cans when you

haul everything out again only to learn that the time also changed. I called the township

politely to inquire and they sent a truck out to get it and our Wednesday has now be-

come our Friday for trash pickup. Kmart is closed. That was a twice a week stop for me

since we moved to Peters for, I had a long nostalgic history going to Kmart in the com-

munities we have pastored over the last 38 years. I knew where everything was in the

store, familiar with there products and enjoyed conversation with a few of there employ-

ees that are church members at Wrights. The pleasant smell of just walking in the store

and at certain times of the year you could smell the pizza from the café, the rubber from

the winter boots or the glow of a blue light special. I handled the Peters store closing

well, but when they announced the Butler street, my home Kmart closing in January, that

was too much! As kids we used to ride our bikes that mile from home, with baseball

cards cloth pinned to the spokes, down to Kmart buy the latest baseball cards, a sub

sandwich, stop at Grandmas for some fresh squeezed lemonade and ride back home like

an episode out of The Andy Griffith show, those dreams of that lasting forever is closed!

Someone said “The more things change-the more they stay the same” I don’t think that

was Jesus talking their cause when Jesus spoke things changed dramatically. He said

more than once “You’ve heard it said before. But I tell you” , “I haven’t come to abolish

the law but to fulfill it” “You were taught to love your friends but hate your enemies I

tell you, you have to love your neighbor as you love yourself” that’s a real change to the

world view in 1st

century . Organized religion did not maneuver change well in Jesus day,

in fact they killed the messenger of change on a Roman cross on a lonely hill outside the

village on a Friday afternoon but because of that death everything else did change for

the better for everyone whether you liked it or not. I guess now after getting this off my

chest, I’m a little bit better with change. It still is difficult, I don’t like it but I can adapt

and remember with fondness the past, remember that Christ died for me, and remem-

ber we need each other as the body of Christ to prepare with eagerness for the future.

“Simon Peter” by Adam Hamilton

He left everything to follow his teacher and possessed a passion that would change the world. That’s one way to describe Peter. Here’s another: poor, unedu-cated, quick-tempered, and full of doubts and fears. Doesn’t even sound like the same man. And that’s the point of Simon Pe-ter, a 5 week adult Bible study by Adam Hamilton. Peter was just an ordinary guy who heard and followed God’s extraordinary call. Discover how you, too, have special gifts, talents, and abilities that God can use to make a dif-ference today.

Women of Wrights (WOW) End of Year Update

WOW fundraisers for 2018 were spring and fall soup and bake sales on election days and Easter and Christmas candy sales. The group has a rule that funds raised during a year be distributed by the end of the year to missions. In 2018, proceeds benefited local missions except for Redbird and Jes-sica Teder. Following is this year’s list; ∗ Washington City Mission ∗ Peters Township Meals on Wheels ∗ Finleyville Food Pantry ∗ Jessica Teder- A teacher of non-speaking

(autistic) children in Maryland who purchases clothing for two boys

∗ Domestic Violence of Washington County ∗ Ward Home for Children ∗ Red Bird Mission in Kentucky ∗ Samaritan Shoe Box Postage ∗ Wrights UM Church general fund

A total of $1800 was distributed. WOW also sup-ports local shut-ins and the pastor on Pastor Ap-preciation Day and at Christmas. All women are invited to be a part of WOW. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 10 am in the

church social hall. Support is needed to help with bereavement luncheons including set-up, food do-

nations and help on the funeral day.

We are thrilled that students from both Ed-wards’ Chapel & Wright’s have been working hard for the past several weeks at Edwards’ to become Confirmands. They just joined he Methodist Church and are now new members. Congratulations to them. Please pray for them as they begin their new Spiritual Journey. Bradley Michael Banaszak, Kayla Marie Franks, Gabby Marie Kress, Colton Shawn Lusk, & Caroline Roberts

Deeply Rooted From the office of Cynthia Moore-Koikoi. We are excited to bring the “Deeply Rooted, Upward Reaching” campaign is off to a great start in attaining our base goal of $2.5 million and the challenge goal of $5 million. Funds raised in the appeal will provide scholar-ships for children and adults to attend events and programs at out camping and retreat sites, as well as capital im-provements at those sites in order to provide quality experi-ences. At this time, congregations are being invited to participate in the congregational phase of the campaign. I encourage you and your congregation to set a non-binding, three year goal for your campaign effort and invite a member of your con-gregation to be the leader. The camping office will provide training to all congregation leaders on stewardship and generosity, as well as promo-tional materials to run a suc-cessful campaign.
