ISA AWARD:

The International School Award (2019 – 2022) was awarded to the school, an accreditation given by the British

Swachh Bharat

On 5th June 2019, Vanavani initiated ‘Swachh Bharat’ by taking an oath to keep the surroundings clean. As part of this

activity , the students carried out various activities such as “Wealth from waste” – Model display, Tamil skit and

Puppet show.

International Yoga Day

Vana Vani celebrated the 5th International Yoga Day on 21st June, 2019 with great enthusiasm and

vigour. Almost 1050 students from classes V –XII assembled in the play ground for the formation of

‘International Yoga Day 2019’. The yoga session started at 8:00 am with the prayer. The school echoed

with the Sanskrit sloka – Om Sahna Vavatu……… which created a perfect ambience for the Yoga Day.

Vanamahotsav

Vanamahotsav is an annual tree planting festival was celebrated on 4th July, 2019. Our sincere thanks to our

parent Mrs. Sasikala who contributed saplings to the school.

Founder’s Day

The Founder’s Day celebration and Investiture ceremony was held on 8th July, 2019 in the school premises.

The chief guest of the day Prof. Srikanth Vedantam, HOD of Dept. of Engineering Design, IIT Madras

presented the badges and administered the oath to the student leaders.

Annual Day

The 56th Annual Day celebration was held on 8th August, 2019 at SAC. The chief guest of the day

Prof. Mangala Sunder Krishnan, HOD of the Chemistry department, I.I.T Madras gave away the prizes to

the achievers. The formal function was followed by the cultural events hovering around the theme

‘Samrakshana’.

Independence Day

The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August, 2019 in the school premises with a great sense

of patriotism. The chief guest of the day, Shri. P. Sarvaharana, Deputy Registrar (Academic Research), IIT

Madras reiterated the sound economic status of India during the past and encouraged the students to contribute

to their country. A couple of patriotic songs were sung by our school students in the campus.

Teacher’s Day :

Teacher’s Day was celebrated on 5th September, 2019. The student council conducted some fun games

for the teachers. The chief guest of the day, Dr.Sampath Samraj, Retd. Prof. of Commerce, Pachaiyappa’s

College highlighted the changing role of the teacher and the importance of updating oneself when one is

committed to this noble profession.

On the same day, we also bid farewell to Mr. Xavier Sagayanathan, our former Vice Principal who

completed 28 years of service in Vana Vani. Some of the senior teachers of the school enlightened the

gathering with the services rendered by Mr. Xavier Sagayanathan. The Management and the Staff of Vana

Vani wished him a peaceful retired life.

The student council of the school had arranged a few games for the teachers. While the teachers were

battling it out in the arena enjoying games like Tug-of-war, musical chair, Chinese whisper, quizzes and dumb

charade, the ‘student- teachers’ of the class XII took care of the classes.

Student’s workshop: * On 7.06.2019, a few students of class X and XI attended a workshop on developing innovative solutions

through concepts and prototypes conducted by IIT Madras in ICSR Hall. Mrs. Geetha Sukumar of Chemistry

department accompanied the students.

* On 17th July, 2019 the department of Biology organized a guest lecture for class XII Biology students.

Professors Dr. S. Mini Jacob, Dr. K. Siva Sangeetha, Dr. K. Mary Sushi and Mr. Thatchinamoorthy of

department of Experimental Medicine of Dr. MGR Medical University explained the common seasonal

diseases like dengue, malaria, typhoid, tuberculosis and AIDS.

* Industrial visit

NACE International Gateway India Section (south zone) organized two days programme on 16th and 17th

August, 2019 on the 13th edition of the annual "Electrochemistry & Corrosion camp” at DAE Township,

Kalpakkam.

* The students of classes XI and XII attended a career guidance program on 09.09.2019 on various openings

in the field of defence was presented by The Defence Academy.

* St. Joseph's College of Engineering conducted a Project Fest on 03.08.19. Students of classes VIII and IX

participated and received certificates. They exhibited different working models on the following topics:

Robotics, Electronics and Environmental Science etc.

Teacher’s workshop:

* The workshop for teachers of Middle and High school was conducted on 31st May 2019 based on the teaching

techniques highlighting learning outcomes.

* On 7th June, 2019, Mrs.Gitanjali Elangovan and Mrs. Indra Raghukumar attended book review session in DPI.

* On 27th June, 2019, Mrs. Mercy Nickson attended a workshop on Choral Music titled “Voices in Unison”

conducted by the MadrasYouth Choir at Bala Mandir Kamaraj Trust.

* On 31st July, 2019, Mrs. Anuradha and Mrs. Srilatha attended a workshop on Time and Stress management

conducted by Dr.Ramaleth, Psychiatry school of education at Meston college of Education, Royapettah,

Chennai.

* On 31st July, 2019, Mrs. Nirmala attended a workshop on NGC and Ecoclub activities of schools conducted

by the Indian Dental Association, Madras branch and Central museum, Egmore, on the topic “Plastic Free

Zone” and “My School, My Tree” organized by Dr.Rajasekaran CEO office, department of Environment,

Chennai.

* On 20th August, 2019, Mrs. Mercy and Mrs. Kumud Mishra attended a workshop on “Take a stand to

withstand” conducted by Dr.Sampath Samraj, Retd. Prof.of Commerce, Pachaiyappa’s college.

* 'A world in motion (AWIM)' - Mahindra and Mahindra conducted 'Master Teacher Training Programme' on

10.08.19 at Maraimalai Nagar. Mrs. Indra Raghukumar and Mrs. Srilatha underwent the training programme.

Mother's committee

Members of the Mother's committee came twice in a term to check the cleanliness of the classroom and the

surroundings.

Blood Donation Camp was organized by the Interact Club of VanaVani in collaboration with the Indian Red

Cross Society on 15th June, 2019. Dr. Balasubramaniam from VHS Blood Bank motivated the students to bring

their parents, relatives and friends in large number for making the Blood Donation Camp a grand success.

INSTALLATION OF INTERACT CLUB 2019-2020:

Sangeetha.S.K and Sai Vidya S.R of XI C were sworn in as President and Secretary respectively. The

chief guest Rtn. PHF T. Sathish rendered a thought provoking speech and shared the main objectives of the

Rotary Club which is ‘Eradicating polio’. Rtn. Suryabhaskar, President Rotary club of Madras Chenna Patna

and Rtn. PDRR Solomon Victor graced the occasion.

NSS UNIT:

(National Service Scheme) for the year 2019 was inaugurated on 20th August, 2019. The chief guest

D.L.O Mr. Mohammad Sitheek in his inspiring speech motivated the students to serve others in NSS spirit.

The NSS unit participated in the Independence Day parade of IITM held at Manohar C Watsa Stadium.

M.R. Keerthana of XI – B was adjudged the best cadet and awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2000/-.

VanaVani Redribbon Club for the year 2019-2020 conducted various competitions such as palm painting,

soap carving, essay writing, slogan writing and poster making

The greendom club and Interact club of our school took the project of collecting food grains for elephants

that are taken care by the Tree foundation. It's our pleasure to say that the school has collected nearly 120kg of

different grains and Rs.1022/- from the students. We thank our parents for their generous contribution and we

expect the same in future also.

The International coastal cleanup day 2019 was celebrated worldwide on 21st September as a joint venture

between Indian coast guard tree foundation and roots and shoots India. Vana Vani deems it a pleasure by being

a part of it. 55 students of middle school belonging to greedom club and eco-club were taken to Elliot’s

beach and cleaned nearly 500 mts stretches of beach in which they collected 15 sacks of a bag of waste.

BALA VIDYA MANDIR SR.SEC SCHOOL

The primary students participated in the LITSAV – Literary competition conducted by Balavidya Mandir,

Adyar on 31st August, 2019. Our students competed with the schools across the city in Role Play(Std V),

Elocution (Std IV), Recitation(Std III) and Story telling (Tamil Std-V). They showcased their talents and

* The 55th Annual Sports Day was held on Friday 30th August, 2019 at Manohar C Watsa Stadium, IIT

Madras. The chief guest Dr.Sylendra Babu, I.P.S, Director General of Police, Railways, TamilNadu declared

the meet open. The chief guest’s interactive speech motivated the students to answer his questions and

rewarded them with a book written by him as a token of appreciation. The guest of honour felicitated and

encouraged the young achievers. Aravind Akash.K.R, Shivani.P and Sathya Sai Krishnan.M, the State and

National level champions in various fields of sports were rewarded a prize amount of Rs.25,000 each on this

auspicious occasion. The Flag drill, Aerobic dance and Rhythmic exercise were highly appreciated by one and

all. The best march past trophy was clinched by Yamuna house and the overall champion shield was awarded

to Godavari house.

Sports News

Central Chennai D-Zone Athletic Meet 2019-2020 was organized by St.Savio MHSS, Velachery on

19th August, 2019 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. In this meet nearly 40 students participated and secured

medals and certificates in various events. Our school boys consecutively secured overall championship for

the 23rd year and girls for the 13th year. The following students won the Individual Championship in

D- Zone meet.
