The first ever school tea towel was produced in themid Seventies by the senior founding directors ofCountryside Art for our local Special Needs school. We quickly realised the fundraising potential and with the formation ofCountryside Art in 1976 came the opportunity to market this wonderfulidea to schools all over the country.

The popularity of the school tea towel is now undisputed and CountrysideArt Ltd has remained leader in the field of school personalised giftwarewith our exciting range of products.

We offer the best reproduction of artwork and superb print quality(all our prints are guaranteed colourfast). We use only the best qualitymaterials and manufacturing processes plus our attention to detailis second to none.

We also produce giftware for many prestigious visitor attractions andcharitable customers including The British Museum, Sandringham,The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and Cadburys to name but a fewand exactly the same care and attention is applied to all ourcustomers in equal amounts.

We pride ourselves on the quality of our work and on also offeringa fast, friendly and efficient service to all our customers.

Countryside Art Ltd(established 1976)- The Original and Best School Giftware

A family company, started in 1975 by our parents, Johnand Margery Chapman is now directed and managed bymyself, Kathy Brookes, and my brother LawrenceChapman. Initially the company was started with a view tohoping to provide employment to people with disabilitieswhenever possible. A family member, son and brother,Patrick has severe learning difficulties and as a familywe were very aware of the difficulties faced by peoplewith disabilities trying to compete for employment inthe job market.

Over the years we have employed people with a widerange of disabilities and won BT’s Deaf Employer of theYear in 1994. (Marcus Bates, who is profoundly deaf andthe proud recipient of the award is still working with us).

The workshops where the company started were initiallybuilt in the grounds of my parent’s grade 2 listed house(formerly a Rectory). Our work has, therefore, alwayshad an immediate impact on our actual surroundings. This has meant we have always had a profound interestin the effects of any chemicals and processes used in theprinting processes. This coupled with the fact that weas a family have all worked long term with the variouschemicals, has made us want to use processes that areas low impact and safe as possible. For this reason wehave always specialised in water-based inks, which, although more difficult to use, have virtually no impact onthe environment. We also insist that all other chemicalsused in cleaning processes etc are environmentally safe.

About five years ago we moved to a purpose-built factoryon a local industrial estate as we had very much outgrownthe original premises. This building has been built to thehighest standards with regards to insulation etc therebyhelping to minimise our carbon footprint. We also makesure any waste fabrics, cardboard, chemicals etc arerecycled wherever possible or disposed of responsiblyaccording to current legislation.

With regard to our ethical policy over buying our fabricsand imported products; we ensure that no child labour isused in the mills that supply us and that employmentstandards are good. We are very unusual as we design, print and sew the majority of our items all under the oneroof, offering quality employment in a rural area wherejobs are in short supply.

By making as many items as possible in the onefactory we again cut down on the environmental damagecaused by shipping goods unnecessarily from one placeto another.

We also think many of our customers prefer our UK-madeproducts because we believe in making a quality productthat will last. We cannot see the point in making a cheapproduct that either breaks or is not fit for the purpose. That seems to be a great waste of our planet’s resources.I still see bags we made when the company first started, over thirty years ago, being carried around our localmarket town. In this day and age I would have thought thismust be some sort of record for sustainability.

I hope the above helps illustrate our attitude to businessand our business dealings.

Kind regards

Helpful advice on how to complete yourdesign and how to order:The EASIEST WAY TO PRODUCE YOUR ARTWORK is to ask for one of ourFREE ARTWORK KITS. Kits are available for all products. This makes producing your artwork so much simpler. All the paper and instructionsyou need to produce the design are in the kit – you can even send the artwork backto us in the same cardboard tube.

The following advice may also be useful in additionthe artwork kit when completing your artwork:1. If producing a single colour design, please use a BLACK felt pen similar to the one

we enclose with the artwork kit. Do not use Biro or pencil as they do notreproduce well. If pencil has been used under the felt pen it must be rubbed outbefore pasting up the drawings. Hand prints are best produced in black paint.

2. If producing a full colour design then felt pens produce the most colourful effectalthough coloured pencils and paints are also satisfactory alternatives.

3. When pasting the drawings back on to the sheet it is best to use is a glue sticksuch as Pritt Stick. Avoid water-based gums as they can make the drawings bleed.

4. We also offer a paste-up service. If using this service then it is best to send in thedrawings at the correct size stated in our artwork kit instructions. This will save thecost of having to have the drawings reduced in size. We always quote a definiteprice before commencing a paste-up based on the number on children andwhether the drawings need re-sizing.

More helpful advice:1. Young children often find it difficult to draw onto the small pieces of paper so it is

possible to let them draw at normal proportions and then reduce the drawings in aphotocopier. However, if you do this then beware that the lines do not become toothin or the child’s name becomes too small to read. The finished artwork shouldnot be thinner than the example shown here.

2. We can add a line border or one of the many decorative borders * depicted on theseparate sheet enclosed with the brochure. *(Applies to single colour tea towels, cards and notelets).

3. We can also typeset the school name etc. for no extra charge. Please fill in yourrequirements in the ‘Special Instructions’ part of the Order Form and also pencil inthe school name in the required position on the artwork kit backing sheet.

4. In addition many schools like to add a logo or crest. This can either be supplied asa printed hard copy or be sent by email. Please always send us the best qualityimage you have available.

5. Please note the images submitted are not printed at the exact size drawn and maybe enlarged or reduced to fit the product.

6. Finally Countryside Art’s own team of designers are only a telephone call away. Please feel free to call us at any time to discuss any problems you may be having –we will assist all we can plus there is no charge for any help we give you.
