World Health Day was

celebrated on 7 April to mark

the anniversary of thefounding of WHO in 1948. Each

year a theme is selected for

World Health Day thathighlights a priority area of public health concern in the world.

The theme for 2013 is high blood pressure.

High blood pressure also known as raised blood pressure orhypertension increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and kidneyfailure. If left uncontrolled, high blood pressure can also causeblindness, irregularities of the heartbeat and heart failure. The risk ofdeveloping these complications is higher in the presence of othercardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes. One in three adultsworldwide has high blood pressure. The proportion increases withage, from 1 in 10 people in their 20s and 30s to 5 in 10 people in their50s. Prevalence of high blood pressure is highest in some low-incomecountries in Africa, with over 40% of adults in many African countriesthought to be affected.

However, high blood pressure is both preventable and treatable.In some developed countries, prevention and treatment of thecondition, together with other cardiovascular risk factors, has brought

about a reduction in deaths from heart disease.The risk of developing high blood pressure can be reduced by:

reducing salt intake;eating a balanced diet; avoiding harmfuluse of alcohol; taking regular physical activity; maintaining ahealthy body weight; and avoiding tobacco use.

Ingredients : Basmathi Rice

- 1/4Kg., Spring onions 1 bunch,

Capsicum - 2, Cabbage 150gms,

white pepper powder 1/2 tea-

spoon, Ajinomotto 1/2teaspoon,

Salt to taste, Sprouted green gra

m - 1/4 cup, oil 2 tablespoon.

Grind together : Green chillies - 3,

Ginger - 1/2inch piece.

Method : Wash and soak rice

for 10 minutes. Cut onions, capsi-

cum, cabbage into very fine pieces.

Cook rice, allow to cool and sepa-

rate the grains. Heat oil in a broad

frying pan, add onions, ginger-

chilli paste, capsicum, cabbage,

sprouted green gram in the order

given one by one leaving a gap of

one or two minutes in between.

Sprinkle ajinomotto and stir-fry

vegetables few minutes. At the

end , add spring onion, cooked

cool rice, salt, pepper powder . Stir

in a high flame for few minute un-

til rice becomes hot.
